Have a Model 70 Safari classic in 375 H&H, Boddington No. 1 in 450/400 3", CZ in 416 Rigby, Ruger Magnum in 458 Lott and am considering getting a Gibbs in a CZ. Would appreciate some suggestions on this rifle and cartridge and any others that I am not aware of. Don't hunt Africa yet, but sure dream of going. Just really love the big bores.

My remaining Gibbs is a rebored Ruger RSM, I shoot 600 gr Woodleigh softs and solids to 2150 fps, have taken both up to 2450, the big cartridge wont disappoint, and should cure any big bore afflict-ive wonderment.

I have broken two scopes on mine and have relegated it to the excellent sights that come on the rifle.

Jamison brass and H-4831 with Fed-215's are my component brands, you can get a set of dies reasonably at CH4D.com.

Yessir, two 1.5-5's, Leupold stood behind them, I do not want to continue to take advantage of their graciousness, so irons it is for this shoulder pounding beast.

You have enough big bores now to kill any animal in Africa, so why not forego a Gibbs and spend your $ on a plains game hunt and tour of Kruger, Victoria Falls, and other sights?

After that introduction to Africa, you will be better informed on your choice of your next safari.

I've had lots of big bores over the years. The 505 cured me. You're more of a man than I am if you can accurately shoot it regularly with full house loads. Mine was a CZ. Quickload is your friend if you really want to man up.

I agree that there's not much logic in my reason to own a Gibbs, but then again I've never been accused of being smart. Good advice to save my money and go on safari, but every time I have some money I tend to spend it on guns.

If you want a 505 with class, I have my Bijou Creek Custom 505 Gibbs. It was part of a 6-rifle set with the same pre-war British style. It's built on an MRC 1999 PH 505 action, with Lilja barrel, NECG sights, quarter rib, red "Old English" pad, barrel band, inlet Ken Howell-style sling mounts, and steel grip cap. It also comes with ammunition, brass, dies, and bullets. I just dropped it to $3,995 shipped. I also have one in 458 Lott that is identical. For reference, Gunner500 knows me, and now owns my Verney Carron 577 double.

Very nice custom rifles Biebs, and yes, your old 577 ain't going anywhere but hunting with me, it's a very accurate big bore double, I really need to kill something besides Oklahoma armadillos with it. wink

Seems a bit light for a armadillo, with the armor plate and all.
