I may have posted this before, but these photos are better. Metal work was done by Dennis Olson. It is a VZ-24 receiver, Shilen barrel, NECG front sight and barrel band, Wisner bottom metal, and an XS peep. The stock was carved by Jim Kobe.

Beautiful rifle.

Wow, love the 2 bottom pics...
WOW! That .458 Lott needs to go hunt Cape buffalo in Africa.
Posted By: agazain Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 03/10/17
If it shoots, and if you can also shoot, that there is a dream rifle.
Well, I'm too old and crippled to shoot it off the bench. My Grandson loves to do that. After he sights it in I can shoot it ok offhand.
Our killer squirrels will be out soon.

One complaint. Pics need to be bigger!!!! Beautiful rifle and superb craftsmanship. The wood isn't too shabby either!

Don't particularly want a .458 Lott, but I admit to being very envious. grin
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful stock!

That, sir, is a work of art! Not your average plinkin' rifle.
Posted By: viking Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 03/11/17
A jewel.
Posted By: McInnis Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 03/11/17
That's an incredibly beautiful rifle. What kind of wood?
I've always bought wood from Roger Vardy in Australia.

Very Nice ! I'm sitting here drooling while looking at those photos.

Nicely done. Kudos to all the craftsmen involved.

What all did Dennis Olsen have to do to the VZ24 action to feed and function with the .458 Lott?

Well, I didn't commission the build, so I don't know it all. He machined a proper follower, notch is front ring to facilitate loading, extended mag box, and I think he trimmed the bolt stop.

Maybe I can talk Nez into working a lott up for me too for the future. Be easy to shoot 38 specials and then use mags as needed...

Beautiful gun. To pretty for me to hunt that one.
Very Nice. Great piece of wood.

Thanks, I think it is a beauty. I need to get to the range with it.

Very nice, I love my Lott but yours is so much nicer!!
Thank you Dennis,
I hope it shoots as well as it looks.
butchlambert1 - I, for one, can see a great BIG glaring fault in your rifle...it's in YOUR gun cabinet and not MINE. PS - I'll take very good care of it. Homesteader

I know you would take care of it!
That is just the perfect setup for the 'Lott. I think the .458 Lott is just a stop or two past the last practical application of a telescopic sight for reliable use afield. That looks like a no worries death stick. Bravo
Butch, I am curious if you have had any problem, discomfort wise, when shooting offhand with the wrap around checkering on the wrist of the stock?
Posted By: Zengela Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 05/02/17
The stock looks like beautiful black smoke tendrils fluttering off a fire. Very nice wood. That's beyond classy. God was in a good mood when that tree was sprouted. A heirloom for generations.

No, I don't shoot it enough at one time to worry about it and my hands are still tough from working with them for ever. Bear in mid that I have one of those young, 24yr old, Grandsons to get it sighted in.
Zengela, yes, this wood is special and has great grain flow.

Butch,

That is one gorgeous rifle! I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

BTW, your photographer does some great work, too! wink

Agreed, that rifle is so cool I'd have to sit down with about 20 rounds and let it belt the chit outta me. grin

Ed,
I need to introduce you to my photographer. He will do a great job for you when you need some A1 photos.

Oh yeah, that's you son Bryan. Chuckle chuckle. He's a good young Man also.
butchlambert1 - a pro took your pix's? You've made me feel sooo much better... I've tried to imitate your photo's on my 'for sale' rifles and fell so far short it was just pitiful. Now i know how you did it.
Does not make me feel any better however. Homesteader

It is nice to have Ed's son close. He is very good. I've tried and have good cameras, but it just ain't my deal.

Butch, I’ve resisted looking at this thread as long as I could. Didn’t want to look and start the “wanting” again. frown Have wanted a Lott for years....but have no justification! Congrats!! A beautiful piece of workmanship. I hope that it serves you well for many years/adventures! memtb

My Grandson loves it and shoots it well. I can handle it offhand or on shooting sticks. Way too much off the bench for me.

Beautiful rifle Butch!
You need to go kill something with her ! Nice rifle.
Posted By: windridge Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 10/28/17
That's what a rifle should look like. Dennis does great work and turns it around before the client croaks and leaves the finished product to his heirs. He turned a pre-64 Mdl 70 30-06 into a 375 H&H for me and made it look new.

I love the stock work.

That is a beautiful rifle! Simply stunning.

What recoil pad did you use?

I really don't know. I'll need to ask Kobe.
Posted By: rockdoc Re: New pics of my 458 Lott - 10/29/17
Thanks

I need to replace the one on my 404J and it looks like that, but buggered!

Once again, a real stumpsplitter of a rifle. I like the clean look with the peep no rear open sights.

The only ones I use are Pachmayer Decellerators.

Butch-The folks that I know who shoot those "big kickn" guns use a stand-up bench.
The only problem is that you do not get to enjoy all that the Lott has to offer.
My brother's gun likes a "big much" load of IMR 4320 and the 500 gr. bullets.
The reason that Barnes makes a 450 gr. is for the Lott. Otherwise the 500 Barnes makes
the shell too long for most actions.

Thanks for the advice. Did you know Homer Strickland before he moved outside?

Homer and I did several projects together. I developed a 6.5 x 284 with a ..400" neck. The idea was to get the barrel to last a lot longer. I later changed it to a 7mm.
Same powder charge as a straight 284. Won a regional F open with that one. I am still shooting that gun.

Yeah Craig, Homer came down here a few times over the year and I shot BR with him. Last time was before he passed away with cancer. We shot together at the Arkansas State BR Championship.
Hated to have him go away.
