Saw the thread on the Thermapen digital meat thermometer and posted that there's at least one much cheaper version that does all the same things, but apparently nobody was interested. Maybe some people just prefer paying $80-$90 to than $20 or less.

If you're interested, www.chefscatalog.com offers a couple of versions of the Taylor Waterproof Digital Thermometer for under $15-$20. My wife's been writing a sausage cookbook for the past year+, and uses one all the time with no problems. Works just as well on steaks, roasts, etc. as sausage.
I was interested but figured if you didn't put up a link, there was a reason.
Thanks
Thanks John!

Hey John,

Exactly, which Taylor device are we comparing the TP to? Maybe we should ask the folks at TP. I can arrange that if appropriate.

Thanks,

David
I've had a thermapen for 3 years and I've used it hundreds and hundreds of times. I really like it and think it was worth every penny. The 3 second reading is B.S. though. Don't think that's going to happen. You might wait 5 to 10 seconds while it bops around before it stops.
website isn't working..can't add to cart grrrr
t-pen ...best one of thre lot imo....cooks country tested all them...fast and slow ....look around
Looks like it could be o.k., but it's not that big of a savings and I know that my Thermapen's work. Also, T-pen's customer service is outstanding.
