Was reading that the national 'beef herd' is the smallest it has been in many years, and that the price of beef is the highest now, than it has been in the past 27 years.
Sticker shock at the butcher shop is awful. Guess I'm going to keep eating dead cow, but probably eat more fish, pork and chicken.
Prices on all protein is going through the roof, not just beef.

I talked to the meat manager at Sam's club today when I saw strip loins and ribeyes were $10 a pound. He said prices were up because of last year's drought and grain shortage. He also said they are telling him that it's going to stay up at least a year! I've got friends that raise cows, and I might just get one and have it cut up. I could live off an 800 pound cow for a while! He said milk and eggs are going up disproportionately to everything else too. Joy! I'll have my little garden. I'll shoot my deer, make my sausage, catch a few fish... I'm still buying beef though. Boneless short ribs and chuck roasts will keep me happy for the most part.

Get ready for your bread to go up also. Tonight we are anticipating a good freeze across Oklahoma and the wheat is at a stage when it could seriously get hurt.
Milk prices are due in part to the drought and corn and alalfa prices when drove a lot of dairymen out . I work Oklahoma where there were over 300 hundred dairies and are now 105 left.

Thank the ethanol industry for a big part of this. Still finishing up a beef we bought in June of 2012. Got a cow moose in there too so we haven't felt it much yet.

Good luck in Oklahoma tonight. Hope the forecast is off.
