A Welcome to the Nursing Home desert...
I guess not.

I like it - especially with a bit of whipped cream, a marachino cherry and some juice from the jar.
Call it what you will, I like tapioca.

I'm not even sure what a tapioca is nor how you make pudding out of one.
Fish eyes, nuff said sick
Man, this is a tough crowd. [Linked Image]
Perhaps you should have gone with bread pudding. Now there is something to like.

Uh, no.

Honestly, how many in this forum still have their own teeth?
I do but if you do I would be surprised wink Bread pudding with some fresh cream is delicious.

I do and they're for eating meat. Not ground corn and fish eyes! grin

I kind of thought tapioca was baby food. Still has to be better than those jell-o molds with milk and canned fruit!
Now, I like rice pudding, but it has to be baked in the oven, and have nutmeg in it, and a vanilla bean, but not cinnamon, though a few pods of cardamom and a small amount of lemon zest works too. Served hot with a dash of cream, or cold with a dash of cream, always with cream. NO RAISINS !
For the record, I have all my teeth, save that on wisdom tooth, still working.
They are a lot shorter than they used to be, mind you.

Call it a social experiment.

I wondered how much controversy a mild, simple, food such a tapioca could cause.
Silly me.

I remember as a kid hearing about a freighter with a load of tapioca that caught fire and in fighting the fire the tapioca got wet and expanded cargo burst forth from the hold and flowed over the side into the water.

Thought that was pretty much a best-case scenario for tapioca. grin

As my Grandmother always did ! smile

We had rice as part of our dinner tonight, so guess what's for dessert tomorrow night grin
In for a penny, in for a pound.

We may as well see those rice, and bread pudding recipes?
raisins are great!
Tapioca pudding is a favorite of mine. This old recipe of mine, will knock your socks off. I sold thousands of portions back in my restaurant days.
Quote
Tapioca Pudding, with chocolate and coconut

In a saucepan, place
3 tablespoons tapioca
1/2 cup sugar

In three cups of milk, add one egg, and beat together

Add this to the dry ingredients, and stir well. Let sit for 5 or more minutes, stirring a couple of times.

On medium heat, bring to a rapid boil. Stir often

Chop, and add in, 4 squares Baker's unsweetened chocolate. Mix well until it disolves.

Add in 1/2 cup Baker's coconut, and mix in well.

Remove from the heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract.

Cool in pan for 15 min. Transfer to a glass bowl, or into individual ramekins. Place plastic wrap on top, pressed against the pudding, to prevent a 'skin' from forming.

Chill, and serve.
as for bread pudding, this was my restaurant recipe
Quote
One loaf of French bread, or about 8 hoagie rolls, torn into pieces
One quart whole milk
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 tbls vanilla
3 tbls butter
One half cup raisins, or more if you like
Walnuts if you like

Melt butter in pan. Put bread into butter, pour on the milk, mix and let the bread absorb the milk.

Mix other ingredients in a separate container. add to bread and milk.

Mix well; bake at 375 for about an hour.

Whiskey sauce

Melt one stick of butter and one cup of sugar together. Mix well; rapidly whisk in one beaten egg. Add 2 tbls (or 3) bourbon. Stir and reduce until it is smooth and not grainy.
Cool, and spoon over bread pudding
Thank you Mannlicher!

Glad there is consensus then.

Tapioca, rice, and bread puddings are best left to nursing home residents, infants, Englishmen with bad teeth, and the incarcerated. laugh

I agree with almost everything you posted, but good lord woman.. no cinnamon?! smile eek grin

Please tell me that you use lots of cinnamon in an apple pie at least!

I am assuming that as a Canuck with discriminating tastes, you will be completing that apple pie with a slice of cheddar!

Always cinnamon in an apple pie smile

As for a cheddar cheese slice ? No, family members eat it that way, and they eat it with ice cream, but myself, I like it plain, with a cup of tea.

So, now that I have disappointed you, how are you even ? smile

In that respect, yes, normal.

Other than that, I am far from normal, and much prefer it that way.
I love Patioca puddjing.

My girl kid loves it too and makes the best I've ever had!

i always get rice pudding duties.

It HAS to have cinnamon and raisins, or it's............just rice.

Well, any female that can and does hang with this crowd would need to be at least a tad "abbi-normal" wink

I was already trained for this place by my Father, my Uncle Barry, and my two brothers, believe me crazy
Made tapioca pudding Friday night. Added a little nutmeg, would've added a few drops of rum extract but I've run out. Stupid country supermarket doesn't stock it regularly.

Really enjoyed it but then I was probably fed poi as an infant. smile

Now that sounds like what my grandmother used to make in a big yellow bowl. I mean big. And it was good! She also made custard in that big yellow bowl. When that came out good things were in store.
