First cup for the morning commute M-F is a K-cup, med or dark roast. The remainder of the morning is piss poor office coffee.

Timmy Horton's, I use their Tassimo cups at home.

And now that you mention it, it has been 2 hours since my last cup, and I am thinking I need a fix ! grin
Posted By: Raeford Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
DD is the only "cup" I will buy in a store. At home it's usually Folgers
Posted By: snubbie Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
Plain ole Maxwell House, brewed strong.

Tried all kinds of other stuff and though Dunkin Donuts ain't bad, just keep coming back to good ole MH.
Posted By: 5sdad Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
As a very infrequent drinker of coffee, I can no more tell the difference between (regular) brands than I can between different (regular) beers.
Posted By: New_2_99s Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
Home: Fresh ground Ugandan Peaberry

Work: MH, or Folgers dark roast

Taken black, with 1 level tsp of raw sugar.

Don't miss it one bit.

I enjoy mathman's choice quite often but I'm currently enjoying a Guatemalan Blend from https://www.strongtreecoffee.com

Improves the flavor experience 10x, imo.

Been wanting to try one of these against the french press though...

A neighbor of mine. Fist class people and a good product. If the wind is right when he's roasting it's unreal. He'll, roast, package, and grind (if wanted) to your specifications.

I brought back some coffee from Costa Rica and enjoyed the hell out of it for a couple weeks but it's long gone now.
Posted By: RWE Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
I brought a suit case full back from Brasil and had to spend a little extra time in U.S. Customs getting my ass probed.

We buy a big bag of beens from Costco and grind those up for our morning brew. I tend to rotate between varieties, these seem to be our favorites

Regular ol' Folgers for me. Go ahead and laugh, I can take it.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
In regards to blood pressure, and caffeine in coffee.

I am short a few hundred thousand dollars, six years, and some fifty IQ points of a medical degree.

My doctors do not worry so much about the short term kick to blood pressure a couple of cups of coffee cause.

The are concerned about the steady high blood pressure.

Now, if we want to get serious about blood pressure, we can discus sodium.
Posted By: byc Re: Morning coffee? - 03/04/15
Richard, you are 100% spot on with regards to sodium. That's the killer for me.

As for coffee Mike. I just have a natural high in the morning and coffee moves me into an anxiety fit. So I pop my HBP pill and drink a ton of water. I'm fully awake inside of 30 minutes.

I watch my parents drink coffee at night and then nod off. I would be awake all night.

Posted By: wabigoon Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Of course, if you do not care for, or about coffee, by all means don't drink it.

About four years back, I shucked over twenty pounds, and still my doc kept me on the pills.

I'm doomed to stay on them till death do us part methinks.

Bwahahaha!

If you use enough of it, it makes a decent pot.
Posted By: chlinstructor Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Don't drink it like I used to, but when I do it's gotta be Foldgers. I like it strong and black. None of that sissy coffee for me.

I usually don't drink it in the summertime, any more. I prefer a glass of sweet tea for breakfast, instead.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
BC30cal, Dwayne steered me on to Maxwell House, and now the wife, and I prefer it.

theshootest likes his Folgers Black Silk.
My old gizzard can't hack that.
Posted By: Mannlicher Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Since my heart problems began, I pretty much have one cup of coffee in the morning. I mix half decaff with half regular. I still like quality and flavor, and my coffee comes from my friends that own Strongtree Coffee here in Gainesville.
Posted By: dvdegeorge Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
I probably drink 10-12 cups a day
Posted By: chlinstructor Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Recent Medical studies suggest that 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day reduce the risk of heart disease and colon cancer. Green Tea is reported to have the same health benefits.

I'd like to hear the thoughts of the Dr's here on the Fire, on their believes of the risks vs benefits.
Posted By: byc Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Richard I like the taste of coffee but it simply amps me up too far. I do like tea but again I go for tons of water in the early AM.

10-12 cups a day would put me on the moon. WOW!

Community Coffee with Chicory dark roast and very smooth. Best i have ever had

That too. I am looking to get off the meds in retirement. Stress lowered, diet altered, exercise regime altered. Looking for pennies that add up to a dollar.

Making coffee is a lot like makin bullets.

I have a favorite blend...

Get out the scales,
6g Peruvian
5g Mexican
2g Guatemalan or Kenya AA
Grind
put in the french press
add 525g of 200 degree water
wait 1 min and stir
wait 5 min and press
wait 5 min and pour
enjoy
strong as hell black as the ace of spades not sure if it'll float a crowbar

maybe I'll start checkin the beans for run-out
Posted By: Cinch Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
Farmer Bros straight black. Usually 4 cups or so in the morning. Sometimes a thermos throughout the day. Doesn't do much for me other then I like the taste. I could drink a cup and go to bed no problem...
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
When I was,,,,,, a young man, I could sleep well after coffee.

I can still drink coffee, and go to bed.
Sleeping is another matter all together.

Lol well I have something to look forward to then. I'm only 38 and have never been affected by caffeine much. I'm sure though once you get older and less active that may change...

I've got the same problem, even if I just have a cup or two in the morning I sleep very lightly, when I cut my self off for a few days I sleep like a baby.

But, if I get in some good cardio exercise I can have my morning coffee and a good nights sleep.
Posted By: dvdegeorge Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
hell I've had 6 cups already today
Posted By: RWE Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
define "cup"

Posted By: dvdegeorge Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
It's actually a big mug maybe 12 oz
Posted By: LostArra Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
for years: home roasted, fresh ground, various origins (roasting is pretty simple in the right popcorn popper)

Costa Rica and Cameroon presently

my brewing would be considered "strong". Definitely not see-through coffee.
Posted By: EdM Re: Morning coffee? - 03/05/15
My doctor advised me not to drink it. I certainly don't miss it either. Kind of like quitting smoking, you just do it.
Posted By: Sig220 Re: Morning coffee? - 03/06/15
I like the Costa Rica coffee, as it does not leave a bitter aftertaste that most coffee does. One or two cups a day for me.

For dvdgeorge:

http://www.cafebritt.com/

You can also pick it up on Amazon.com a little cheaper.

Posted By: sse Re: Morning coffee? - 03/07/15
I get the bulk bags of coffee beans from Costco, also. But also drink Timmie's every day.
Posted By: Henryseale Re: Morning coffee? - 03/07/15
I usually buy HEB (regional grocery chain) brand Premium House Blend. As far as national brands go, I prefer Maxwell House. I've never had anything from Starbuck's that I liked. I usually have two 10 oz. mugs in the morning with 1 1/2 packets of aspertame, 1/2 tsp. sugar, and some powdered creamer. Guess I ain't much of a coffee snob, huh? That's what I like and it's all that matters to me. I'm just not high maintenance.
