Took third place in the rain. First time for our crew, one point separated first to second and second to third. We all had a great time, can't wait to do it again.

Nice job Sean. How long did you have for the cook?

Mike

Thanks guys, yes we had a great time.
Mike, baby backs, first six racks started at a little after seven am had to be turned in at 11:30. Next three racks for judging had to be turned in between 2:45 and 3:00.
We got the unofficial, and unpaid, best sides award! We made breakfast burritos, jalapeno poppers, and pulled pork sandwiches. The second place team made some bacon fat deep fried chicken gizzards that were to die for. First place winner put a 175 of Crown on his table and loudly announced cowboy water for everyone!

My rub, Royce's sauce. Rub down with mustard, hit it with dry rub, and throw on the rotisserie smoker. Squirt bottle with apple juice and glazed with sauce the last hour.

You can pick out most of the rub ingredients from the pic plus some coffee, brown, and raw sugars. The sauce was a doctored up Sweet Baby Ray's with apple, OJ, and bourbon. We just missed the timing on the last racks. Could have been down about thirty to an hour earlier. Like I said in the op, three points between first and third. Oh well, drink and learn!

Nice job, Sean, have you ever tried including alittle Salad Supreme in your dry rub on ribs? I also like to add some Worcestershire sauce in the rub.
Posted By: calikooknic Re: Rib Cook Off - 05/01/15
Never tried the salad supreme, Frank. Ingredients sound good, might go good in a Bloody Mary!

Hey cal, how do you like the Tradewinds spices? Do you get them there locally?

Thanks,
LD

Take a closer look at the rub mix, LD. wink
They are the house brand at Smart-N-Final here, sort of a commercial restaurant supply place. Lots of good stuff in bulk packages with decent prices.
