I don't think I have ever had a recipe for baked beans. Don't do 'Boston' style. Just open a can of beans, add some bacon, mustard, molasses, heat on top of the stove.

This is not a "from scratch" recipe by any means, but my brother and I have made it many times and everyone seems to love them. The batch can be doubled with no problems. The bad thing is that you need to have some smoked meats from previous cooks on hand. These are not "runny beans" as you can stand a fork in them when they're done. I would also recommend not telling your cardiologist you ate them. grin

2 - 28 oz. Cans Bush's Best Onion Flavored Beans (all liquid drained)
1 - Medium Onion Chopped
1 - Bottle Famous Dave's Texas Pit BBQ Sauce (or your favorite)
1/2 - teaspoon Cumin
1 - Tablespoon Yellow Mustard
1/4 - Cup Brown Sugar
2 - Cloves Garlic Minced
1/2 - lb. Bacon (cut to 1" pieces)
1 - lb. Combination Pulled Pork, Chopped Brisket and Smoked Sausage Slices

Cut bacon and fry. Add onion when bacon is about half way done. Add garlic when bacon is almost finished. Drain grease and mix all ingredients in a large bowl. When well mixed transfer to a 2" deep stainless or disposable pan (careful, those disposable ones are flimsy). Place on smoker rack below a dripping pork butt, ribs or brisket for two hours at 250 degrees. Remove, stir, cool and hold in fridge until meat is ready. Reheat on smoker or in oven.

Note: If beens cannot be placed under meat to catch drippings add bacon grease to the mixture.

Best Ever Baked Beans

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Container: large casserole dish, saute pan, large mixing bowl
Servings: 12-15

Ingredients
1 cup onion chopped
2 stalks celery chopped
1/2 pound bacon cut into bite sized pieces
1 pound ground beef
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
3 tbsp brown mustard (I used Emeril’s, but others work fine)
1/4 cup barbecue sauce - your favorite brand
3 tbsp molasses
1/2 tsp salt (I used Tony’s creole seasoning)
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp jalapeno pepper jelly (substituted for cranberry sauce;
didn't want to open a new can for 1 tbsp)
1 tbsp hot sauce (I used El Yucateco red habanero)
28 ounces chili beans (2 cans)
28 ounces butter beans (2 cans)
28 ounces pork and beans (2 cans)
14 ounces cannellini beans (1 can)

Directions
• Brown together the onion, celery, bacon, and hamburger.
• In a large bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients.
• Add in the cooked meat, onions, celery mixture.
• Simmer on the stove on low heat for approximately 45 minutes
or bake in a 350° F oven for 40-45 minutes or until bubbly.

I have one friend that eats a huge amount of it when he's here and I always give him a container of it to take home with him. smile

Thanks guys

Chris C's recipe looks like one I'll have to try. Sorry, LD, but real baked beans do NOT have ground beef in them.......but that's personal taste.......kinda like the "grits suck" vs "grits are the food of the gods" debate.

USMC2602, it's ok. I thought the same thing until I tried 'em. But, yeah, they're filling for sure.

eh, Bush's is THE best you can start with if you're going quick fix! I put 1 tbsp each mustard, ketchup, bbq sauce, 1 tsp liquid smoke, ground black pepper and some chopped onion in them cooked on the stove top and people think I've been cooking them all day. smile

try the grillin bush's beans. add onions, green peppers

Real baked beans do not have burger. But good food is good food, and my family makes them both ways. Given a choice the cook is more important than an ingrediant.

These recipes look like they're worth trying.

My old standby, is P+B, to which is added ketchup, br sugar, dry mustard, bacon, chopped onion (a lot), then baked uncovered for a long time.

I am not a big fan of baked beans, although I know lots of people are. I would rather have cold pork&beans and I like Showboat brand the best. People keep trying to warm them up for me and I don't want that either, refrigerator cold is how I like them. miles
