Yea or nay.

I make Cabbage, Sausage, and onion fried in bacon grease now and then but I found a recipe that also calls for diced tomato's.
I'm thinking about trying it but I'm not sure.

What do ya'll think?
Sounds good to me!!
sounds good, might try Rotel as well
Go for it if you wish but I'd substitute some diced red bell peppers into the mix.
I don't think so.
I like em just fine the way I usually make em without turning this into a science project.
I was just wondering if anyone had actually made fried Cabbage with tomato's.
It's only a science project if things start smellin' a little funny. grin

This
Tomato goes wonderfully with cabbage and pork, and I ain't a fan of tomatoes in general.
Yea, looks good to me. Wouldn't last long at my table. smile

I like cabbage rolls as much as the next guy but I'll be damned if I can see what that has to do with fried cabbage and sausage.

Looks like there's more than one recipe with tomato's out there.
I guess I'll try it but I think I'll leave the bell peppers out.

I'm not sure that anyone that substitutes butter for bacon fat should call herself a "southern" lady though....
FG, I've never made the dish you're referring to, but it sounds good.

I have had cabbage soup that was built on a tomato base from a little Mom & Pop restaurant near where I used to live and it was incredible. I don't usually buy soup in quarts and gallons from restaurants, but this stuff was that good.

Been trying to emulate that recipe for years.

Well OK LD...I'm gonna make a batch tomorrow.
If it doesn't turn out I'm gonna blame you and cuss ya for the 4-5 days a batch lasts me.
(I'm too cheap to throw it out.) frown

PS....that soup sounds great....let us know if you ever master it...

I'm good with any recipe that starts with "melt some bacon grease in a pan"! wink

Nay
Well....I finally got around to making a batch with tomatos tonight.
I don't know what I was worried about. One of my favorite dishes just got better
A great addition that I'll definitely stick with.

Berrrp....
Nice.

I figure it'd take something south of an old boot to fugg up Sausage, cabbage, and onions. Those might be my three favorite food groups. Lol.

That said, I think 99 flung a craving on me. Might have to make a big batch of cabbage rolls this week.

Agreed....I love that chit.
Probably because not even a culinary hack like me can screw it up.

PS....my secret ingredient is a good sprinkle of Tony's about mid way.
Don't know of much of anything doesn't get better with a sprinkle of Tony's.
Tonight's supper Lazy Cabbage rolls

Sliced a small red cabbage

Chopped up a medium-sized red onion

5 cloves garlic

5 Roma tomatoes blanched peeled and chopped.

1 lb ground beef browned

Couple teaspoons cooking oil bottom of the Dutch oven.

Once it's not add cabbage and onion salt and pepper toss and fry for a few minutes.

Add in the chopped garlic and the Roma tomatoes. Cup of so of tomato juice and a cup of water.

Season again with salt and pepper, then add in the browned ground beef.

Simmer until Cabbage is tender.

25 minutes before eating I add another cup of water and a cup of tomato juice.

Bring to a rolling boil. Then add I'd a cup of white rice.

Stir occasionally. When the rice is cooked it's ready to serve. With your favorite salad and some dark the bread.

So a Cabbage Roll without the roll?
Must be a West Virginia cabbage roll.
This West Virginia must be quite the place Denny.

The wine, and all.

Tell me more?

I need to have a bit of fun/give you a hard time Denny.

The invite to fish NW Ontario still stands, and, they make wine in Ontario "eh"?
PS Denny, that is a pretty homestead!

If you talked kaywoddy into our little trip, we just might keep ourselves amused.

Thank you !! Truly Gods country. Morning coffee up on the ridge or out on the deck is my time to enjoy and reflect.

I'm truly blessed.
Denny, and all, I'll quote Proverbs, 15:17, King James, "Better is dinner of herbs where love is, than a fattened ox with hatred."
My take, a little good natured fun is good for digestion.
Pass the spinach, please.
Sure thing Denny, anything else?
How could cabbage, sausage, tomatoes, and onions be bad?

It can't as long as it's fried in bacon grease.
