I’ve tried, picked up at Costco Monday, think it would work well on chicken and pork too.

Trying it out on some kodiak sockeye now
Thats pretty heavy.

Not over powering?
Jim, it’s unbelievable...
Shoulda taken a finished pic, turned into a bit glaze.... Quite a bit of brown sugar, and just the right amount of heat... If your like I'll send ya a container????
I'm going to have to try that!
"Raging River" by Dizzy Pig is also very good.

Good to have a few runs to keep salmon on the menu. We have it at least on day a week.
Got some shrimp marinating in it now.... Shiit is highly recommended...

How did the shrimp turn out Jman?
I've tried several rubs on salmon, but always come back to simple - salt, pepper, garlic.

Can't be beat, IMO. Then again, I like the taste of salmon and don't want to mask it.

Shrimp didn’t turn out that good, sure is good on salmon though, makes the “salmon taste” pop!!
Sometimes I like salmon with just some salt and pepper, but I eat so much salmon over the year I have to try out different ways to eat it. Gonna have to get some of that stuff at costco. Chili lime rub is real good on salmon also when I'm making fish tacos with it.
Fresh caught salmon, fresh dill, fresh lemon, salt, pepper and slight smoke of grapevine.

Seen that rub at Costco though. Think I could make it myself if I ever oven cook salmon steaks,

Just like us Ptarm, 'cept our protein is walleye !

grin
My wife makes a side sauce we like with salmon. She just dices up cucumber and fresh dill, mixes it with sour cream, then salt and pepper to taste. My kids would eat it by the spoonful.

And an IPA to wash it down with I bet! I do like rolling it in panko then frying as well. My buddy tossed a whole headed and gutted sockeye in a huge wok filled with peanut oil for me once. My kids really liked that one, with a little S&P on it after it was done. They ate the skin like potato chips!
The IPA is a given. duh...
The Double Muskie coconut salmon is a really good way to take salmon in a different direction.

I do the same, but add a little minced garlic and lemon juice.

Well you damn prick, I hate to admit it but you've done it! Haha! That is some damn good stuff! Put it on the coho from yesterday and it was killer. Momma cooked up some kale, made some caprese salad, and some cucumber dill sauce to go with it. I told her she better go back to costco and buy another jar before they sell outta the schitt! Haha!

Heck yeah! Cooked in the cast iron with a bit of olive oil, garlic, and S&P. Sometimes with some carrots added in there too. I love the stuff!

The cucumber, dill, and sour cream on the side really complimented the sweetness of the rub. Damn good! I bet it'd be good on pork too, the rub that is!
Mustard is a very different way to go, but on salmon it can be a tasty side sauce. Mix together one part yellow table mustard, one part whole grain mustard, and one part dijon mustard. Add more dijon if you want it a touch sweeter. It is surprisingly good with salmon.

You are very right on the mustard. The Double Muskie "plum sauce" served with their coconut salmon is basically grey poupon and grape jelly. and it does not suck.

What’s the ratio on the dill, cucumber sc?
You know how those recipes go, just keep adding it until it tastes the way you want it. Never really measure that one out.
👍🤙
Costco (or homemade) tzatziki sauce is damn good on salmon too. Pretty much just cucumber, dill, Greek yogurt, lemon, garlic, salt etc...I've substituted sour cream in a pinch.
I know you guys like salmon but i can’t stand it!
Round two tonight, this time with some sockeye, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. Nope, it wasn’t. It’s kinda like crack! Haha!
We use Paul Prudhomme's Salmon Magic. He knew his stuff. Magnificent on a cedar plank!

I love the stuff. Make a big batch when I roast a lamb leg in the summer. It’s killer on roast pork too.

there are as many ways to pre-season, marinade, rub and pamper as there are anadromous fish in the sea
Posted By: ribka Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/25/19

Good stuff !!!
Been using it on salmon trout over 5 years

Ya man, great stuff!!
Posted By: Steve Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/26/19
1 Tbl White Miso
2 Tbl of soy sauce
2 Tbl of Mirin
1/4 cup white wine

Mix well with a whip. Put large flat bowl along with skin less fish. Marinade for 30 minutes in refrigerator (turning once if fish pieces are not covered.

Place fish on an oiled broiler pan and spoon a bit of the marinade on the fish. Broil for 4-5 minutes. Flip and repeat. Glaze should turn brown well on each side

Works great on salmon or halibut.
Posted By: sse Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/26/19
i've never used miso before
Posted By: sse Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/26/19
or mirin
Posted By: Steve Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/26/19
Miso is fermented so it doesn't go bad if kept in the fridge. Mirin is a type of rice wine. Doesn't got bad either.
Posted By: ribka Re: Best salmon rub/seasoning... - 07/27/19
I do ling and black cod in miso and mirin and bake in the oven

really good flavors
Went to Costco today and struck out. My local doesn’t have it. I’ll try Tacoma or Lacey this week.
Got mine at tumwater
Yesterdays tournament we threw more than that many back

Wow Dan, they are all really solid fish !
Damn good haul dan the man!!!

Nice haul of fish! I need to go find some of this seasoning, I loathe going into anchorage. I’m going to see if our local 3 bears store has it. I have freezer full of reds and I need something to
Put on them i done everything else.
Buddy on kodiak sent down a couple packs of sockeye with my halibut, damn good fish, best salmon imo...
PS looks that that rub company has a website, if ya can't source some locally order it direct, you won't be sorry..
Sometimes simple seasoning is better.I like to cook it with a little sea salt and a lite sprinkle of garlic powder.A little dash of extra virgin olive oil and cook it low and slow in a skillet until done.

That is not smoked salmon... she grills it with smoke... for someone claiming to be a smoking guru she does not even understand the difference between cold-smoking, hot-smoking, and lox. And completely overlooks the whole brine and pellicle routine.

As ordinary as the recipe could possibly get and does nothing to show the real value of smoked salmon in the dish... it is about the texture...

I put much more into it than that.

There is also the realization that comes from seeing how much better something can be, done right.

There is WAY too much MSG in Everglades for me. And I have only had issues a few times with MSG.

Everglades is good seasoning, but I'm just plain salmon'd out.
