I’m thinking about getting this I have a Sendero but it’s in 270. Thinking the 308 is better twisted to shoot farther. Looking for something to shoot farther out, not necessarily hunting except for Varmintd.
How far out are you talking?

The 270 will get pretty far as easily as the 308.

Yeah, if I had a 270 Sendero I’d be trying the Nosler ABLR, Berger 150’s, Hornady 145 ELD, etc before ever replacing it with anything 308 myself. Unless you’re just looking for less expensive range ammo, then the 308 makes a pile of sense.
Any reason, even if flawed, is a good enough reason for a new rifle.
I believe you'd be better off with a fast twisted 6mm of some sort.
and something that uses small rifle primers -- 6.5 creed. with starline or Lap brass

Now that I cannot argue with.
Yes it would be a sweet setup for your purposes. 6 or 6.5 creedmoor would be an even better fit though.
All depends on distances and what type of "varmints" he is talking.
I’ve got some 145 eld-x I’m gonna try in my Sendero. I never thought of the 270 as a long range cartridge I guess. Though a 6 or 6.5 sounds nice to be able to use SRP and less powder. And less recoil. That’s a good point.

I’ve never done much shooting more than normal hunting distances out to 200 yards or so. Saw the video another guy posted shooting ground hogs in the head at distance. Was kind of inspiring.
My VLS in .243 is a tack driver and a bit heavy.
