So are these new bullets meant for hunting like the hunting VLD?

They are making so many variations I am confused.

I shoot the 230 Hybrid OTM in my 30-378. I am getting 3050 fps and .33" groups.

Thank you.
Walt Berger told me,"Not to use the target hybrids on game".

I was asking him about the Hybrids for hunting. A hunting style bullet for my 300 Win. Mag. He told me to use the 185 VLD Hybrid for big game hunting.

That would be fine but I can't find any to try out.

Wow, Fotis, that's great. What a mean machine... blush

I'm pretty sure a 230 grain bullet of any kind will kill a deer. Even at half the velocity you are talking. ED
Fotis the new hunting hybrids are just being released. The 338 cal are out and the 30cal should be shortly. There are 2 different styles. The classic and the elite. The classic is what most are calling the saami and the bc is slightly lower.

The ones I bought and worked up a load, were in a cream colored box. Not yellow, not orange. On the Box were pictures of Crosshairs on Elk targets and a few other things.

That would indicate a game bullet also no?

Just like this BUT Cream colored

Hammerdown,

No such thing as a VLD hybrid. Sure you meant to say VLD.

Fotus,

It can get confusing with all the new hybrid variants. There is the OTM, target, classic hunter and elite hunter.

The 230 gr OTM and 230 gr target have been used on big game with excellent results.

The 215 VLD hunting and 230 gr target hybrid have almost identical jackets:

I took advantage of the higher BC of the 230 target hybrid and will be using them on a elk hunt in Dec. Using a 300 RUM. Friend will also use them with his 300 WSM. I know they will work close or far.

Thank you
Berger makes hybrid target and hybrid tactical bullets, but not hybrid hunting or varmint bullets. The box you show appears to be for their Match Hybrid OTM Tactical bullets.

Maybe they can be used for hunting, but I wonder just what's meant by the label on the box that says "Constructed for Maximized Terminal Performance"? You would think a bullet for varmints would be constructed differently than a bullet for deer, both of which are shown on the box.
actually they do make hybrid hunting bullets

Checking the Berger website I find 9 Match Hybrid Target bullets and 3 Match Hybrid OTM Tactical bullets. There are no Hybrid bullets listed as either Varmint or Hunting.

If you know of any specific Berger hybrid hunting bullets share a link or provide specific data so I can let the Berger webmaster know they are missing some bullets.
I shot an oryx at 171 yards with the 230 OTM. It is very dead. I forgot to take autopsy pics but did recover part of the jacket. It is actually just the boat tail. I would not be worried about it penciling through. It was the most like the penetrating grenade berger advertises that I have ever seen. We have 11 landowner elk tags at our disposal this year. I might get a chance to let some other folks get a chance to shoot some elk with that gun/bullet to get some more info. Looks good thus far.

I guess I need to screw a brake on there if others are going to be shooting it.
Maclorry check here. They are brand new and just coming out!
Midway has the classic hunters and the extreme outer limits store has the elite 338cal and soon to be 30cal.

This is a 230 Hybrid from a 300 RUM. Response is from another forum

Pop, this is from a friend of mine that I 100% trust. Just wanted to state it is not from me. Also this is the 230 Target Hybrid, not the OTM but I believe the jackets are the same thickness.

"30 cal. 230 grain berger hybrid target before and after. 6x6 elk shot at 648 yards. The bullet hit the bottom of the spine and was found just under the hide in the offside hind quarter. The elk was facing down hill and quartered at me. It dropped in its tracks. so did the cow i shot at 90 yards and the deer at 110 the year before. They aren't recommended for hunting by berger but they work well for me!"

The Classic Hunter and Elite Hunter series listed on the hunting bullets page are in fact hybrid ogives.

You're right, but you wouldn't know it looking at Berger's bullet specs. You have to read Berger's blog to get that information. Guess that's better than forcing people to go to a Facebook page to get product information.

Agreed, I don't care for all this Facebook product info and promotions. Using it as a way to reach people who may not have heard of you otherwise is smart, but there's some companies that have promotions that you can only participate in if you have Facebook.

Hope the Classic Hunters I have coming work well in my 308 AR. Planning on using them for long range and hunting, not sure how they'll do for targets out to 800.
Running the 185 Hybrid Hunting through my 300WM and RUM. Accuracy was quick to find.

That they do. Much friendlier than the VLd's
I shot my mule this year with a 140 Hybrid out of my 264 win mag. The bullet hit the front shoulder knuckle and shattered it sending big bone chunks through-out the shoulder, through the ribs with 2" hole, through the ribs on the off side with a 1.5" hole and out. The deer was shot at 317 yards and went about 20 feet and dropped dead.
