Does anyone here have one of these is so please chime in on what you have thinking about doing one(300WSM) because I have all the components as per reloading. If you do have one my other question would be how's feeding and do the bullets move around in the magazine due to recoil... Really liking the 208 AMAX and the 200+ Bergers!!!!!!

If you have the long action - why not straight 300WM?

The "advantage" of the WSM was supposed to be primarily a shorter/lighter action. That's gone with the long action and while there are many that talk/say that the short fat case is more accurate etc but the 300 WM isn't exactly a slouch in the accuracy dept.

I'd also think that a set of dies for the 300WM would have you money ahead over having to have the action worked over to feed the WSM.

While we're suggesting what you didn't ask for, I suggest you go with a .300 Weatherby or a .300 Rum. Either will produce excellent accuracy and velocity. The .300 Weatherby's barrel will even last longer.
Uh 300 win mag?

I have goobs of brass and Forster Ultra 2-Die Set for the WSM and if ever need be I could always go with the 300WIN being I have the long action. Trying to see what the guys have if in fact they do..
Take a look at Kwik Klips. I think cabelas still sales them. They are bottom metal and a detachable mag that fits pretty flush and fit in a standard bdl stock cut out. I didn't like them in the past because the only way they fit in a standard cut out with a detachable mag was to shorten the available over all length that fits in the mags to 3.3 ish. I like the 3.6" room of the regular rem mag boxes when running LA cartridges but if running a short mag in a long action 3.3 is pleanty. The kwik Klips can be easily tuned to run short mags on a long action and the set up is priced reasonable.

I'm running a SA predator with a Wyatt's box and my 208's are loaded to about 2.975". They shoot 1/2-1/4 moa so I'm happy there but I'm still working on ironing out the feeding. It does feed just not as smooth as I'd like especially with the pointy bullets out that far. Sometimes I wish I would have gone LA with a kwik klip, I almost did a 7 wsm on a LA but ended up just doing an LRM.

Thanks so much B!!!
Not a 300WSM but I built a 7WSM on a long action and love it, gained about 150fps seating the bullets out

I'm in the middle of the same project, I have a passed down 700 long action and I'm having a 7mm/300 wsm built on it. If you go to lens long range forum, there is a lot of info on the wsm on a long action. Also as stated above, I here great things about the kwik klip feeding the wsm on a long action. I believe the guys at benchmark barrels have done it on several shop builds ( not 100% positive on that ). I'm going this route since I want to run the 180 vld or 175 accubond LR at max coal. I'm a 7mm stw fan so I'm loaded up on 284 gear and I've always liked the wsm. Another advantage is, if you wanted to run a single feed, your coal is not restricted at all.
Question for you OP-

What are you intending on running with this WSM? I saw you mentioned heavy bergers. Hunting or just target? Velocities?

I am planning on doing something similar in an 06'
I know alot of people are saying 300 win mag, but I for one think loosing the belt on the wsm case would be an advantage. I also think in some cases the extra powder the win mag case holds can put some of the vld bullets past the speed they are going to perform best at. the same thing could be said for going 6.5-284 over 264 win mag. the 264 shoots faster but the extra speed is too much for the VLD bullets to perform well at, at least in my experience.

This is going to be be a hunting rifle with velocities of about 2800+ 25-6"s, Bartlien #3 with 10 twist, Pierce Ti, HS DBM, McMillan Classic Edge......Gradous!
I used a model 70 p/f l/a.
The bolt face was opened up, and a lilja 3 groove was used, all set in a real purdy thumbhole walnut stock.
Shoots awesome, but has feeding issues.
Tried a wsm follower, but rounds still pop out.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
Other than that, great rifle for l/r, and ragged hole groups with 165 grain nosler solid bases.

Splat you may have to bend the lips in on the inside of your box OR get with Mark @ Bansner Rifles for one off his custom mag boxes!
If going with a LA you might consider the 30-338 with a long throat so you can seat your heavies out of the useable powder space. I have one in a LA PF M70 that is throated for 180 NBT's with an OAL of 3.545" it will easily rival 300 WM velocities with it's 28" barrel, yup it's a big bitch but pretty is as pretty does. The 10x 40 LRT Mk4 Leupold with the M3 dial seems properly at home on top. I have both the 208 gr Horn BTHP's and AMAX bullets that are going to be tried this summer. Magnum Man
If you did go with the 300 WSM you could shoot the 230 gr Berger hybrid seated long. Just have the throat lengthened accordingly. You could seat the bullet where it belongs and gain some performance. BC of the 230gr Berger is .743

I helped a friend load that bullet in his SA browning A-bolt with a 2.8" magazine and got 2720 fps and RL-17. See second picture.

Here is a long throated 338 RCM with 300 gr Berger used in a long action:

Check the Defiance Machine web site. He makes 3.2" box AND follower targeted for WSM and 284 type ctgs. This may be shorter than you want but should fit in a LA receiver cut-out.

Rin really looking into doing DBM of some sorts!
I have a long action 7wsm 700. I wouldn't do it any other way. As a matter of fact, I may do a 300wsm on another la I have and throat it for the 230.

I'm running a Wyatt's magazine on mine and really like it.

Nothing was done to ensure feeding on mine and it has no issues whatsoever with 180's jammed in the lands.
If its a hunting rifle, I wouldn't have anything but a flush mount magazine. A slung rifle with an extended magazine is a pain for me.
I keep hearing about short mags in long actions. Based on the BR rounds, it seems like the best idea ever to me. I think it is a waste to cram those cases in short actions. I keep wanting to do it, as I have seen the draw-backs to short mags in short actions with short mags. That pick above is a case in point. You blow your powder capacity seating long bullets deep. I've read that the geometry of cases causes funky wave harmonics inside the case during ignition if you have a bullet seated below the neck and causes burn variations. My plan to build a 7wsm on a long action is alive and well, minus the feeding difficulty. It'll only take one, anyway...

Ordered Pierce Ti Magnum LA and McMillan today......Barlein 10 twist is on the way.......still debating on HS DBM but more than likely will go that way...........pretty EXCITED!!!!!
