Shame it wasn't built on a Pre-64 Model 70...
Oh for Shame...
That shot on the left -
real coyote would have run of into a ditch and required a dispatch next day by a friend and a caterpillar to burry it.
Don't think you can post posts like that and not have people take notes.
One of these years I am going to make the Icebraker.
Dang, now that is a dog gun!
Nice to finally see it. And a different camo pattern too!
I can't see the folding stock thingy.
Pat,
Who did you order your can through?
Travis

I know about the rodeo to which you refer, but I believe you're misreading the target here. What looks like a hip hit is probably just the mark made by bullet fragment side scatter hitting the head of a mounting bolt.

Good eye, math! When I shot the group, I could see that splash through the scope, and thought I had one go left and right. Always nice to walk up on a group and see it's better than you thought it was from the rifle.
The noise is about the same as a .22LR rifle.
I'm impressed by you guys who shoot accurately/precisely at distance in the wind.
Nice shooting! I like the rifle setup as well.
Those rebar target stands are quite handy. I have several that I leave out all year and can take down quickly for bush-hogging. Old firehose is what I hang my plates with.
Sweet stick Pat, and excellent shooting.... par for the course.
Side note: for those who are unfamiliar with JC a Steel Targets... that's about a half size coyote silhouette...

mathman,
thank you for pointing that out. My mistake.
scenarshooter,
I thought, that was good counting the shot I misread. Going back corrected - chapeau. All I can say.
Pat,
Sweet deal! Wish we could use suppressors up here!
Cool... Thanks for the pics
Wow, that has got to be a fun rig!
Looks good! I guess your paperwork and stamp came through.
Can't wait to see it in person.
I like the stock too!
Slick looking rig Pat, the new working coyote rifle? Will you warm it up a little at IB 4? Magnum Man

Get busy rattling your politicians chains!

I'm trying to stay dis-interested in cans.
This ain't helping.......
I'm picking mine up this weekend.
Does that help?
Travis
I'm picking mine up this weekend. Does that help?
Long as you don't talk about it.....
These are the only kind of cans that interest me...
Why? Those are more expensive and harder to get than the one scenarshooter has!
Yeah, but there's no Government involvement
LOL
First can Pat? If so, welcome to the club!
I've got three currently with 2 more in the queue. Probably done after this unless I get a 338 or something (doubtful).

Do you have a quick detach on all your cans/rifles? Or do you just thread them on?
Travis
Travis,
All mine are threaded. Currently I have a ThunderBeast 30P-1, Silencerco Sparrow, and a SWR Octane HD .45cal. I use the 22lr (Sparrow) can more than anything else so decided to order another rimfire can. Ordered a SWR/Silencerco Spectre II this time around (just to be different) and a ThunderBeast 223A.
I debated which route to take on the 223 can--quick disconnect or threaded, and in the end convinced myself to get the threaded version. My reason (possibly flawed???) was that I'll have these cans the rest of my life, and I don't want to be trying to find some quick disconnect mount 10 or 20 years from now for an obsolete can. I'll always be able to get something threaded.
Plus, it's really not that big of a deal in my opinion to thread a can on.
-Dan
Ok, I have been wondering. I think I bought an Elite Iron Bravo 1. Can't even remember what the hell I ordered.
I'm hoping when I pick it up the dealer explains how the hell I'm supposed to attach it to my AR. Because I have no clue.
I'd be fine threading it on and leaving it as well. If I can get by without the quick detach, I will.
22LR can is next...
Travis
The 223A is full auto rated for SBRs. Doubt I'll ever own a full auto, but I will probably own a 5.56 SBR upper and it would be nice to be able to blast away without worrying about destroying the can.
Almost went 223P-1, but got a good deal on the 223A since it was a demo unit. That and the 223P-1 is only rated for 14.5" 5.56s.
Oh, and definitely get a 22lr can. Most of them can be run on every rimfire and also on 22 Hornet. I've got a little CZ 452 for the kids that's threaded, and it is mouse fart quiet with subsonic ammo.

The guy I ordered this one from said he sells a lot of what I bought (whatever that is) and said they're very versatile and work well with AR's.
Here's to hoping...
I have 22/45 Pro-Lite that is threaded. So I have no choice but to purchase a can for it...
Travis
I looked at a Bravo 1 last weekend. Fairly heavy can, but supposed to meter well. The way the threading works is it threads onto an Elite Iron muzzle brake, which is included. The one I looked at came with another brake threaded 1/2x28 as well as the 5/8x24 for 30 cal type stuff.
What do you mean when you say "meter?"
Travis
Perform well on a decibel meter. Quiet.
Ah. Gotcha. That was probably a stupid question but I freely admit the only thing I know about cans is I want one. Grin...
Travis
Elite Iron's cans are suppose to be some of the quietest out there!
That's good to know. I want my silencer silent.
Travis

Is the Sparrow rated for the Hornet? One of those has been on my want list for a while now.

Sure is.
Well, thats great. So not only do I need a 22/45 Lite and a new barrel for my 10/22, I need to find a Stainless Laminate 77/22 to convert to K-Hornet.
Might check with Silencerco to be sure, but the K-Hornet might be pushing it with the added velocity, etc.
I suspect it's as much to do with pressure and gas volume as actual velocity. The 22 Hornet only has a 43,000 CUP SAAMI max pressure. So if a guy is loading his Hornet to hotter levels, he might blow the can off the end of the barrel.
Like you said, it's worth a call to Silencerco. Let them know what you have in mind and see what they think. Because I wouldn't want to be "that guy" who bought a can and waited 11 months, then blows it to pieces the first day out.
Edit: Perusing the Hodgdon 22 Hornet data, it looks like the famous 13 grains of Lil' Gun with a 40 grain bullet for ~3000 fps is quite mild on pressure. Well within SAAMI specs. So rock on!
No kidding. Not like thats anywhere close to being an issue at the moment but I'd definitely get the go ahead before pulling the trigger.
Good shooting, Pat. I bet that rig's very pleasant to shoot!
Hey Pat: How about some more pics of that gun?
thanks
Can't wait for IBC 4... See it in person !
I'll bring a TBAC 30ba up as well. Gonna get in on the Harvester buy for the 6.5 4S too ! Badass can
Does the 6 Creedmoor run well with RL 17 and the 105gr bullets?
I am on the fence between the .243 and the Creedmoor.
Travis
RL17 makes good fire starter...
H4350 is the answer !
I center my builds around the components I have on hand these days... grin.
Travis
I've heard of a lot of people using RL 17 in the 6 Creedmoor with success...
Thanks Cinch. And GFY buddy.

Travis
What's not to like about the Creedmoor? 243 performance but in a better wrapper.
I'm only hesitant because of components. I'm really sick of playing with new cartridges but something is telling me the Creedmoor would be ideal.
About a 20" barrel. Shooting 105's with a can. Just seems to make sense.
Travis
Don't be gay.
I'm gonna kick you in the balls.
Travis
Just build a 243. It's the 223 of the 6mm world. Fine performance. Works well in a short action. You won't worry about losing brass or finding new brass in either super spendy or cheap throwaway configuration. Or I dare say it, buy factory ammo for the brass. Even neck down your 7mm-08 when times are tough.
Screw that, live a little. Here are the results from the top 50 long-range shooters nationwide used at the Precision Rifle Series Finale: (
http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/12/17/best-rifle-caliber-what-the-pros-use/)
Maybe I'll just build another 7-08. All this arguing is stressful.
Travis
If I'm reading that chart correctly, looks like 6XC is the king. I knew I chose wisely.
Maybe I'll just build another 7-08. All this arguing is stressful.
Travis
Which would be a fine idea. Especially since the 162 Amax is going back into production.
I would use the 150gr Accubond Longrange in the 7.08, a solid BC of .611 and faster velocity. The 7.08 is a dog with 162's.

Where does it say this is a 6MM Creedmoor versus .243 thread?
When Travis brought it up.
To bring the thread back around, are you noticing much change in POI when switching between suppressed and unsuppressed?
I center my builds around the components I have on hand these days... grin.
Travis
Ask Pat, he will agree with me. RL 17 sux. Very temp sensitive.
Sendero Man, what kind of velocity loss did you see compared to temperature change?
Only lost about 45 fps changing to h4350. And haven't seen more than 16 fps swing.
But running RL 17, I saw over 250 fps temp swings from summer to winter and if I remember right, Pat saw even more
H4350 runs in the 6mms !
Thanks, I remember Pat posting a couple years ago that R17 fizzled when it got real cold.
Maybe some lots are more temp sensitive than others?
I tested both H4350 and R17 this past December.
H4350 lost about 100fps(243 Win) and R17 lost about 200fps(300 WSM).
(going from -20F rifles/ammo to warmed up rifles and 125F ammo that I heated on the defrost)
10F-80F there isn't much of an issue/velocity loss but obviously losing 100-200fps is going to really screw up cold weather LR shooting.
Hijack over.
Pat, that setup could really be handy for dog hunting around here!
Nice looking rifle! Suppressors sure are pleasant to shoot with, wish my stamp would come in.
I'm impressed by you guys who shoot accurately/precisely at distance in the wind.
Here in Wyoming an 8 mph wind is called a dead still day!
I'm liking this rifle more every time I shoot it. After 165 rounds through the tube, I've added a little more H4350 to increase the velocity 60fps, and it seems to be getting tighter and tighter.
Coyotes already hate it.....grin!
That thing is a hammer !!
How many firings are you getting on those cases ?
Dang Scenar, hope mine shoots like that! My parts are headed to GAP in a couple weeks.
I too am trying to ignore cans. Too many toys lined up as it is, but that 6 Creedmore does look sweet!
What speeds are you getting with the 105's? What makes the Creed a better case than a 243?

I've been selling off a few rifles lately and replacing them with can orders.
I'm really digging the lack of noise and blast so far!

That last load I worked up is 3070fps. I'm happy with that with a 22" barrel. My other bolt rifle in 6 Creed gets 3100fps with .2grs less powder from a 26" barrel.
You can drive the same bullets a bit faster with a standard .243, but in my opinion, the Creedmoor case is a better design for short actions and shooting longer bullets.
Load development is complete...to my pleasant suprise, as the round count approached 200, my velocity had increased almost 80fps. My last 6MM Bartlein barrel did the same thing after a couple hundred rounds and has maintained the same velocity with 1800 rounds downrange. Both rifles are getting 3100fps with 105gr Hybrids. Happy to be able to use the same dope for both rifles.
Card on the mag is meters/mils, with a 180 meter zero.
Pat I wonder if its a 5R trait or maybe the way the throat was cut that gives the higher velocity after breakin....
You could be on to something with the 5R....
I skipped the barrel break in routine, per usual, but ran a couple patches through it after 100 rounds or so. There was zero copper, and the powder came out after five or six patches. I don't spend much $ on barrel cleaning supplies.....grin!
Nice! Both chambers cut with the same reamer? Nice to be able to swap brass around as well without FL'ing or bumping shoulders.
I have a 6mm 8twist tube that is soon to be installed. The Creed sounds great, but I already have a bunch of 243 lapua brass.
Cheek piece looks sharp !!
Very nice Pat. Wish we could use can's to hunt with in MT.
TMR... come to WY
Gonna have Pat bring that down for our annual speed goat hunt !

What kind of rings are on the front of that badboy?
It's a Near Uni-Mount, all one piece.
Pat, are you using a sloped rail?
thanks
Yes, the Templar V2 action has an integrel 20 MOA rail.
Pat,
Are you happy with the 22" barrel in conjunction with the can? Or would you go a little shorter when you re-barrel?
Travis
I've heard shorter is better when conjuncting with a can.
Huh?
RL 17 sucked for me, I thought I had a great load 3/4" at 200 yards, I went to test it at 575 yards and that "great load" turned into over 5" of vertical even worse is it was either 1 high and 2 low or the other way around. Basically a miss everytime on a coyote at that range. switched to 4831 sc and vertical went to less than 2" and sometimes as little as .75 accuracy went up to sub .5 at 200 yards. I saw pretty big swings in temp sensitivity as well It was nothing to see 100 fps
Looks like you could run it over and still be zeroed.

That pretty much describes the Bartlein barrel on my 260. Hit it twice with wipeout and I was done!

One of the deputies on my shift had a Ruger 10-22 with an integral suppressor. All you could hear was the bolt cycling. I would have loved to have had the money to get one, but the wife and I and my kids had developed a nasty habit of eating regularly. Food or rifle...food or rifle...food or rifle...? It was touch and go for a while there but I decided we should stick with the food.
Cool pic I got of Pat at the Icebreaker 4.....

much higher maintenance.
Well deerstalker, I guess I find myself out of the loop again we allways called them jugs not cans and they aren't very quiet ,cause a lot of heavy noisy breathing. Not that I don't enjoy the photo as art work but we don't get Pat here enough so let's not trash out his thread with T & A when he is willing to part with his pics and knowledge of cutting edge shooting. Magnum Man
Nice rifle Pat. Nice shooting too.
I'm thinking of either a 6 creed or the 6.5 creed.
6 is taking the lead after this. I'll be running my .30 cal can on mine.
Any idea how the 6 and the 6.5 compare on barrel life....got a 6.5 in hand and the parts are ready for GAP but a high BC 6mm bullet at 3075fps must be a thing of beauty.
Great thread...one of these years I need to come shoot with you guys.
