Last week while taking some sanity time (and turkey hunting) I took my stock Weatherby S2 243 out with me. A friend has built his own 1000 yard range.
I took the 243 out to 400 (not really long range but wanted to try it) and 500 and even took a shot at 600 and 700.
4 shot group at 500 (misjudged the wind) and a 3 shot group at 400. Hit the 600 once out of one try and hit 700 once out of 2 tries.
24" barrel
90 gr Accubonds
IMR 4350
Scope is a Bushnell Ultra HD 3-12

That's a business card I'm holding next to the two groups.

Yesterday I played with some 85 gr partitions and managed to hit the 400 off of a sitting position 3 times out of 5.
Definitely need a better rest.

And more practice!
You know, I love my .270's....but those .243's are just so
damn nice for so many things! Good shooting.
I have stretched my 243 to 1400yds. I would go farther but that is far as I can shoot due to geography. Put a real bullet in them, and they can certainly shine. I personally think low recoil is key for getting good at long range, simply because you have to shoot a lot to learn wind etc. It is nothing to rip off 50 rounds in an afternoon of shooting.
some nice shooting.
Quit now before you are hooked laugh

As was stated above, I love my 270's, but I can't/won't get away from them. Great all around caliber.
Load up some 105 grain Hornady bullets and stoke it with a slow powder like RL22 and shoot. You'll really enjoy the results.
If I could own only one caliber, the .243 would be it.
Definitely load up some 105gr amax or vld. They are awesome and fun to shoot.
How are the various 105's working on deer from 0-300 yds?

105 Hornady BTHP and H1000 from my 24" barreled Remington

I am shooting 105gr. Berger Hybrids. Shot 1 buck at 25 yds,1 buck at 250 yds, and 1 antelope at 320yds. Bullet performance has been very good, with the bullet really doing a number inside the said animals. Found the jacket on an off side shoulder of a big mulie shot at 250yds. It weighed about 15 to 20 grs. Every thing was dead on the spot. Have killed a bunch of coyotes as well. Work well there too(unless you are saving fur). I am shooting them at 3000fps.
Thx!

I've got no dog in this fight...

but I can verify, that this combo has worked pretty darn well out of several of my 243s, for reaching out there...

its a darn good recommendation.....

I've killed buck with the scenar, vld, and amax within 300yds. All worked fine.
I know the Hornady gets a lot of respect but has anyone tried the Nosler Custom Comp 105gr? Seems like a respectable B.C.
I've got a 12lb tactical rig I'm shooting 115 dtacs with H1000 powder in for targets. I plan on loading some berger 115's up for hunting. At 3k it should be good for 600 yards or so on game.
