Been running 150 grain nosler ballistic tips in my 7mm mashburn but Ive got the itch to play around with the 180 grain scenars. Anyone used them on game and what was your results? What are you running them out of and what velocity? Would you use them on elk?
Son shot a large mule deer buck and a cow elk with them last year. Both exited, both took one shot. I get 2860 fps using H1000. Will move to those once my 168 Berger stash is gone. They seem to expand more slowly than Bergers and I think they are going to exit more often. I like the Bergers too though.
Both of those animals were between 500 and 600 yards.
Will the 180 grain Scenar work with a 1-9 ?
Thanks
His rifle is a 9 twist, but all of our shooting is at 4,000 feet or higher.

My 7 WSM is spun with a 9 twist and handled them with nar a problem. Load work up was typical Scenar, easily tunable.
I saw Graf's has them for $38.99/box. Tempted to give them a try.
You should. They're one of the more impressive bullets I've seen shot at game.

I've got them going 3060 with H1000 in my LRM, but have yet to use them on game. In taking to Tanner, I'll be aiming for bone on our little coues deer out here.

You like them better than 162's?
I don't shoot them, a hunting partner does. I would bet you couldn't give him a box of 162s after shooting the Scenars... Maybe he'll chime in here.

I am both the son and the hunting partner mentioned here, I really dig the scenars. My rifle shot 162s very well, but at this point I can't see myself choosing them over the 180s.
Sorry for the delay, working like crazy lately.
Picking up your SNAP card doesn't count as work pal....
The actual picking up of it doesn't, but beating back the masses to get to the front of the line has to count for something...?
