Looks like just stick a reamer in there?
53 looks and no comments......hmmmm
Possibly set the barrel back some as well?
I myself usually refer to Doc Howell's cartridge diagram book before commenting on threads like this and I'm at the office and it's at home so will defer until later. laugh

After looking at some drawings, I think you are right David. Looking forward to some other replies.
If and when you get there, will the barrel have the desired twist?
Ream her.
AI the chamber. Same case capacity, cheapest Lapua brass, a nice long neck, likely better barrel life, and factory ammo available. 6.5 Vais, check it out.
A very worthwhile conversion going to the 284 case. That 1/8 twist should send 140 VLD's very well.

Something to look at David.

You will want to use the longer magazine to be able to seat out VLD bullets and the 284 case may not fit your current magazine.

May I ask what you hope to accomplish by this, 2750 fps with 140s is achievable in the 22 inch tube of your tikka, you might get another 50 to 75 fps with the 284 case.Doesn't seem worth the effort to me if what you are after is more speed.

If you got a poorly cut leade or chamber, that's different.Go for it.
First....you'd need to burn some incense....wave some smoke over your head with three turkey feathers....take a dip in the waters of Hot Springs, Arkansas and repeat these words...."Oh Almighty Father please grant onto me one of these":

Would think a 6.5 06 a better mouse trap. Ream and new mag.

The Swede has a slightly larger case head, I think a 30-30 shell holder is used. With that in mind I'd improve it. There are a few wildcats on the 6.5x55 case.
Couple things to go along with my previous post:
• The bolt face is different on the 6.5x55 as mentioned
• Mags for t3s aren't cheap. To go Vais, at most you'll have to sand some plastic on your existing mag feed lips.
• The bolt stop will not need modified, may not be true of x284 or 06 choices.
• The Vais and 284 cases have identical capacity.
• Your throat won't change unless you want.
• All your current brass can be used for the Vais chamber.
• Factory ammo can be used in a bind.
The 6.5x55 load I have seen used best is 52 gr. of H1000 with 140, with 6.5-284 the load was 55 gr. of H1000.
Just send me your 6.5x55 and I will put it to good use! I already have brass so that wont be necessary!
When you "Ackley Improve" a 6.5x55 it has identical capacity to a 6.5x284. Ackley never improved the 6.5x55, hence the Vais name.
6.5-06 is the real winner if want to re-chamber
My Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 Swede got an upgrade not too long ago with an 8 tw 5r 26" Bartlein barrel in #3 contour ......I considered the 6.5-284 but Lapua brass was out of stock everywhere I looked and too spendy, besides that I already have a bunch of 6.5 Swede brass by Lapua and others ... So I developed my own wildcat on the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, basically maxed the case out for full possible case capacity matching the 6.5-'06 ...... case forming is simple, I use the Hornady 7mm-08 full length die with the tapered expander ball to neck up the brass then run 'em in a Hornady 6.5x55 Swede FL die set to size the neck far down enough to close the bolt and fireform via cow banging ....... Have 100 cases fireformed and will use the Hornady 6.5x55 Swede seater die to load initial ammo as the die body is slightly oversize and the floating case neck aligner with seater stem aligns the bullet and case neck for straight line seating ....... no special super custom dies needed but I will eventually send off my new set of Redding 6.5x55 Swede dies to JLC Precision for conversion into a a set of precision bushing dies made off my fully formed 3x fired cases .......
Also have the reamer for the 243 Coyote Killer (6.5 Wolf Killer necked down) and a #2b 8 tw 5r Bartlein fit and chambered as a second barrel for the rifle AND still have the original Tikka barrel in 6.5 Swede to use if I want ......

Reamers and gauges available for both from PT&G ........

Technically, the 6.5x55 has a larger case head, but the bolt face on the Tikka is the same regardless. And Lapua is the only one making Swede brass with the larger case head, the others use standard .473".

That being said, yes...a 6.5-284 reamer would clean up a swede chamber. I would not go down that road if your swede is a shooter though. You don't gain much. Might as well shoot out the swede and think about options when time to rebarrel.
