If anyone has feedback/info using these bullets I'd appreciate it. Especially impacts down to 1800-2000 fps on big game. Rifle is a 700, chambered in 338 Winchester Magnumb, 24" barrel. Both weights of MTH are the mag fed versions.

  • 225gr MTH -- 0.640 G1 & 0.321 G7 (claimed)
  • 252gr MTH -- 0.726 G1 & 0.361 G7 (claimed)

I'm leaning more towards the 225gr at this point. And thinking 2900 fps is reasonable for MV. Was figuring 2700 fps for 252gr. Using JBM for my locale, the 225gr at 2900 doesn't give up too much to the 252gr, in terms of velocity and drift.

Notes:

- Unfortunately, I can't use lead so it's not an option. I want one lead-free load for all hunting/shooting in this rifle.
- No, I'm not going to re-chamber or rebarrel to a RUM or Lapua grin
- Big game animals to 600, maybe 700.
- Steel targets out past 800.

Haven't used the 225 and 252 gr bullets yet but the 265 gr MTH Max bullets with a .800 bc fly pretty good at 3075 fps from my 338 Edge, 5 shots into one hole at 100 yards, gonna take them out for a longer walk soon

these energy calculations are at 435 ft above sea level !

5561 ft lbs energy at the muzzle
5123 ft lbs at 100 yards
3638 ft lbs at 500 yards
2282 ft lbs at 1000 yards
1800 ft lbs at 1237 yards
1000 ft lbs at 1810 yards , that's 50 yards past a mile !

Thanks for the info Swamplord. That 265 Max load is badass grin

Have you used other caliber/weights from CE? If so, how have they done in terms of flight and killing?

Thanks,

Jason
I've got the 225gr MTH on order and will post an update in the future.
Texas Heart Shot a moose at spittin' distance with the 375 cal 320 gr MTH in Sept 2014 , full story here

I shot a box of 50 last month with decent results, and have some more on order. For anyone interested, CEB has 20% off and free shipping for the month of August.

First pic shows the 225gr MTH next to a 225gr TTSX.

Shot them in a 700 XCR II with 6x MQ on a Seekins rail. Those plates in the second pic were pushed closer for the pic. Still not too shabby.

Swapped out the rail for lower mounts. I'll post another follow-up once I get some more rounds thru it.

Nice rifle Jason. What did you do with your Ruger 77 stainless laminate?
That Ruger went to a co-worker. Another wanted it, but thought the recoil was too brisk with the 225gr TTSX at 2900 grin
