Looking for some input as to what I should be carrying around with me while hunting for a light weight rear bag rest?
It adds so much to my stability yet need something that is relatively light weight.
I appreciate any suggestions.

Rolled up jacket. More than likely you are already wearing or packing one
Sew up a short section of BDU pants leg, fill it with rice or beans.
Doubles as emergency field survival chow.
Fill with air soft BB's for weight savings and waterproofness
spare beanie with spare gloves inside.

Carry them just like that right inside the top of the pack.

Champions Choice shooting mitt. Not a bag, but extremely useful in the field.

Hunting conditions my shoulder is the rear rest. Guess shooting out a blind you have option's.
The last Dog Gone Good Darrell Holland rear bag was heavier fill. I called. The guy rattled off alternate fill material and how to get it in there.

Bag Filler

Bags can be shipped empty, or filled at the factory for a small fee. Filled bags also require an extra $5 packaging fee. The bags can be filled with polypropylene regrind which can be found where plastic is recycled (check yellow pages under lastic). Large bags will weigh about 22 lbs., medium bags about 13 lbs, small bags will weigh about 10 lbs. Ground walnut tumbling media will weigh about the same as polypropylene. Sand will weigh 60 lbs. in the large bag and about 45 lbs. in the medium, and the small bag will weigh about 30 lbs. For a light weight filling Buckwheat hulls can be obtained at a feed store and the large bag will weigh 6 lbs., and the small bag will weigh less than 3 lbs.
I like the short action precision rear bags. They have two versions. One that is 5oz and one that tis 6.5oz.

Wiebad makes one that has a loop that hangs off your sling and weighs 3.6 oz. It's spendy, but it works well.

You can somewhat see it at the bottom of this photo:

Thanks
$41.60 shipped.
When the wife sees the credit card hit, she will think it is cheap compared to scopes.
I'm a big fan of the Red Tac 1/2 Pint. I use it for matches, work, and hunting. You can pack it, clip it to a belt, or to a sling.
When I shoot from a bi-pod, I like a Bi-pod Buddy rear rest.

Double cross small covers my needs.
I made one when I lived in Idaho -just a backpacking compression sack filled firmly with bean-bag styrofoam beads . Wal-mart -for both items .
Just lashed it to the outside of my pack , worked great to lean back on when glassing & made a good camp pillow.
Should have made it a little bigger so it would have been a great pillow instead of just ok.

This.
Check out the ones made by Jamison here on the fire....
Hands down, this: http://www.armageddongear.com/Fat-Bags_p_77.html

It is extremely lightweight. The Medium bag weighs 7.4 oz. The large bag weighs 11oz. Much lighter than any bag, even half this size, with standard plastic pellet fill. I used one of these on my 725 yard elk shot last fall in WY. There's a video showing these on the page.

this item looks interesting. Light but not cheap

bi pod buddy a better buy.
Get a front bag like this and fill it with poly beads from the craft store. When used in the rear position the front bag has 3 different possible elevations. With the poly beads you use a left hand squeeze and get significant POA changes. Light and versatile.

Step 1. Procure Crown Royal bag at the liquor store.
Step 2. Dispose of the whiskey.
Step 3. Go to Wal-Mart and buy a children's toy filled with styrofoam beads. I paid $3.
Step 4. Fill bag 7/8 full with styrofoam beads. Top with a piece of cloth to keep beads from sneaking out. Tie tightly.

It's high-speed. It's GTG. It's just the coolest damn thing ever.
When my father helped us build a house on Saturdays in 1982-1984, I was serving him Crown Royal at lunch, and must have had 100 bags.

My fiberfill for rear bags just arrived.

But the Crown Royal bags are gone:(
