Hi there

What bullets do you guys shoot in 1:10 twist 243 WIN that has a 'decent' BC?

For some reason I never warmed up to the 243 WIN but decided I going to try one. I will probably rebarrel to a 'better' twist later on but for now I will have to work with a 1:10.

Thanks

Pieter
I have a 1-10 twist 240Wby so I'm interested in the responses. I've got some 100gr SGKs loaded up right now to test but I haven't had a chance to go shoot them. They have a decent BC and are supposed to work in a 10 twist.
I live at a little altitude, but my 243s that have a one in 10 twist... ( couple of Model 70s) have zero problems stabilizing the Hornady 105 BTHPs....

if you are wanting to hunt and don't want to use that bullet, then I'd always go with the 90 or 95 grain Ballistic Tips, ot the 95 gr Partition, with a stiff charge of 7828SC....or RL 19...
87 gr VMAX, 95 Nosler BT or 90 gr Berger will work in a 10 twist. 105s will not if down closer to sea level.
I shoot a 243 almost exclusively. For a 10 twist try 90 to 95grain lapua scenars, bergers,or nosler BT. I have gone to an 8 twist with 105 berger hybrids. They shoot great.
Not Sure what's available in SA but here is what has worked for me in the 2 10 twist 243s I've owned.

95 nosler BT, The BC isn't terrible and they kill very well and are accurate.

90 Lapua scenar, probably the best you can do for high BC in a 10 twist. They are a little soft for me on game.

87 hornady VMax, good bc, accurate and explosive.

I tried 105 Hornadys in both of mine. One wouldn't stabilize them, the other did but shot them poorly
Don't know the BC but the 87 grain Berger VLD kills very well and is very accurate out of my .243 1/10 twist.
My primary 243 is a 1-10 twist. Shoots the 85 gr partition and the 90 gr Accubond to the same point of impact out to 200 yards or so. Past that, the Accubond shines.

Here's a 500 yard, 4-shot group with the Accubonds.

Do the 87gr berger vld bullets need a short throat to reach the lands? It looks like the bearing surface is pretty short on this bullet. For instance, would I be able to reach the lands on a factory tikka and have enough bullet in the neck?

I shoot 105 amax with rl26. I shoot @ 3k ft and down to -10*f during my tests humidity was never very hjgh.....but it shot well to 600.

I agree with Seafire.
I have a 243AI with a 10 twist. Go to bullet is the 85 gr Sierra with RL 19. Also shoots the 85 gr partitions great. 87-95 grains just about anything I load up works but not when I go heavier.

Good luck.

How does the 95gr Berger Target VLD work in a 10 twist?
Try a 105 HPBT with Re17 behind it.
95 grain ballistic tips in front of 4350 shoot lights out in my son's .243. We tried 105 Hornady's. They would not group in this rifle.
I've recently been working with IMR 7977 and the 95 B/tip at just slightly under 3100fps.
Any opinions on the 95 gr Classic hunters from Berger?
