Uh...do what now?

With little to go with, I chose the 30-06 with a 165 gr bullet @ 2800 fps. If it was 2" high at 10 yards it would be somewhere around 31" high at 100 or zeroed for 1100 yards. I didn't bother to change many inputs. Elevation 7500 ft, 35 degrees.

Here is JBM so you can figure out what it will do with your mystery firearm:

If you are trying to get it close for any kind of hunting range, the POI should be BELOW the line of sight at 10 yards. Generally with the typical hunting rifle if you are on at 25 yards it should get you on paper (assuming a 12x12 target) at 100 yards.

1/4” low at 25 will get ya pretty close to where you wanna be at 100

2” high at ten and you’re gonna need a tall target

When mounting the scope be certain to mount with the large end to the rear!!

Crosshairs should form what appears to be an "X" when looking through scope.

I see people at our local range doing the X" high/low at 25 yard sight in pretty regular.

Depends a little bit on the scope height too. I usually site in a 11 yards.

I guess I was way to vague last night. I had mounted a new scope on a new gun. My new rifle has a muzzle brake. Because if that I wasnt able to use my bore sighter. So I was trying bore sight the old fashioned way of looking through the muzzle at a spot on wall and moving scope to it. Problem was inside the house the furthest distance I could get was about 10 yards.
When I tried to move scope to that spot I ran out of elevation adjustment going down and the lowest i could get the crosshairs was about 2 inches over the spot. So knowing i would go to the range i was trying get an idea where this was going to hit at distance. So No i wasnt trying to sight in at 10 yards.
When i got to the range today and set my target at 50 yards I had plenty of elevation and was able to get it bore sighted right away.

A good deal of arrogance goes a long way . Ignore it .Hope you are sighted in !

You need a bore sighting tool!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that, being unsure, the OP came to a forum on which members probably know this stuff and inquired so that he could learn.

It makes me want to go back to that thread from a month or so ago wherein so many of our members just could not understand why so many other members do not wish to start their own threads.

My guess is that it's the inadvertent exposure to unexpected ridicule that makes people not ask questions that could save them a lot of wasted time, money and heartache.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Looking through barrel and scope on a spot on the wall is just to get on paper faster. Not really a serious q.
But I do something similar.
I have a laser level for work that has cross hair , I put directly under the barrel and point it where the barrel is pointing.
I also level my scope this way and then dial the scope on the +
Usually pretty close to dead center at 25 yards when I go sight the scope in.
Then just set the target up further

I'm thinking 6 high at 100. 4 high at 200 and right on at 300.

Not everybody gets to shoot all the way out to 100, like you do.

For the OP, I never owned a boresighter, don't need one, just look down the bore like you did. Just don't limit yourself to a "target" that's inside the house.

I have a couple of things I use, just need a solid rest near a window.

The wife always worries about someone seeing me do that, but I just tell her I hope they do, then they'll keep their damn dogs out of the yard.

The farther you can look at something through your barrel and then adjust your scope to it is going to get you on target faster when you start shooting IMO.
Posted By: OldmanoftheSea Re: Scop Mounting - 02/10/20
That's an excitable round.

Like heading to el bano (le crapper) with your nightstick in hand.
Artillery round.

If I can't take the bolt out of a rifle and boresight it on a target 100 yds away I shoot one shot at 25 yds and adjust the scope to where I think it'll be at zero. Next shot is at 100 yds and is always on a 8.5"x11" piece of paper. From there it's just refining it. I never understood spending money on a boresighter, one shot and you should be able to figure out where to go if everything's working right.
