Here’s my idea:
A 6.5-30/30 improved that Hornady makes a gummy tip ELD bullet for. Comes with an appropriate twist for the new Ruger/Marlin 336 and Henry rifles. They could make a 6.5-45/70 if they wanted to use the 1895 action.
Just thinking out loud as something to excite the lever market.
Thoughts?
I have brilliant ideas, just sometime they kinda suck. This might be one of those.

I didn’t figure I was breaking new ground with the thought, and that is exactly what I was thinking, but what about Hornady standardizing one of those rounds with a flex tip for new levers. I love a lever action and would like to see something new that could generate more interest in them.
Call the round a 264 Hornady. I like the sound of that more than 6.5 Hornady. Have some fun with it and call it a 264 Serenity. Give it a 1:8 twist and make a jelly tip ELD bullet.

Other than getting married to a single bullet from a single supplier, it's not a bad idea. I'm not aware of any flat tip 6.5 jacketed bullets? But this would probably be one of the first caliber to go to save money during the next financial downturn. Then you are committed to lead bullets, which isn't bad, but the fast twist isn't the best for them.
From an marketing prospective they could really with the 6.5 hype but In Grandpa's lever action. I have a few contenders with 6.5x30-30 barrels and think it's a great cartridge.
There just isn't a big demand for rimmed lever rifle cartridges any more.

30-30 brass is cheaper and more plentiful but I have always liked the idea of a 6.5 bullet stuffed into a 225 Win case.

The 6.5 JDJ is fun. I have a contender barrel in it. Pain to find brass for it though.

Seeing how Hornady already does runs of 25/35 ammo, I think sizing up to 26 cal and changing the shoulder and taper a bit would be easier than a 225 win as the parent case. If they wanted it to be faster using a 45/70 case shouldn’t be too difficult. They could use a 444 case too, but going off memory here, that’s basically a straightened 30/30 case.
Now that I’m thinking about rimmed cases that would fit in a 336 or 1895 action, what about using a 303 Brit or 7.62x54r as the parent case. Something new and exciting for Ruger/Marlin to drive interest in their new rifles is the idea. Maybe they skip the 6.5 and go 7MM. I think that’s a better idea but since this is half a marketing exercise and the 6.5 is so popular right now that makes more sense. If they did an ELD 7MM, people could use the 7-30 water bullets as an option.
I like the idea in a Savage 99 but the rifle is capable of shooting rimless as well so that opens the door to the creedmore which is easier.
I have a 6.5 Bower (307 Win necked down and improved) in a Contender. I've taken several deer and pronghorn with it. It is a 16" in carbine configuration. Shoots better than I can (1/2 MOA) with cheap PPU bullets and surplus WC 860 powder.
I have a reamer for a 6.5/444. .25" long neck and standard shoulder. I never have used the reamer. I set it up so custom dies are not needed. Body size with 444 FL die, neck (and shoulder bump) with 260 or 6.5x55 die. One of these days I'll do a 98 using the reamer and not cut the rim - just use x57 brass.
Obviously, few realize just how weak the 30/30 case is and how they blow primers at peak accuracy in wild cats. I have been down this road, I will spare you the details.
With the price of new Marlin levers, there is not going to be a rush on them.

I'm surprised they would chamber one of these in a Contender, unless its just simply downloaded considerably....

the abundance of correct bullets in a 6.5 caliber to feed through the tubular magazine would be a limitation how I see it

From personal experience, 30/30 case is weak. So, when you find the accuracy node, primers can be punched out of the case with a straightened Paper clip. Some brass did not survive the fire forming. There are better ways to piss away $1200-$1500 on a custom rifle, dies, brass, bullets.
Had a 6.5x30-30 Imp for a Contender barrel. Bought it used and it was a bit finicky. Sold it off and am now working on a 6.5 JDJ for my Contender. I find it brass forming a bit easier. The 225 Win brass is the key, but it wasn't easy to accumulate my stash...
If you want something odd, go 6.5x30-40 krag improved
A 6.5 - .30-30 would, these days, be stiff competition for the 7-30 Waters.

You really built a 250 AI on a 336? Seems like a whole lot of work with feeding and bolt face compared to a 25/35 AI.
