Im thinking about a Mcswirly for my model 70 .375HH and would like to see the various combinations. I just looked through all the archives but a lot of people dont list there formula.
So let see um!!
Do not know the percentage of mix but the colors are olive, brown and grey.
40% Light Grey,40% Olive,20% Black.....
60% black, 20% OD, 20% light gray ...
Here's a close-up of the butt stock ...
and here's a pic of the entire rifle ...
Not mine, but I have one on order just like it. It is 60% Olive, 20% each of black and white.
RH
The bottom three are 50%-25%-25%... The first one is a 70%-20%-10% and It looks just about like the other ones "percentage wise". It's a bit of a crap shoot if your trying to get exactly what you envision. That said, I haven't been disappointed with how any of them turned out.
1) gray,white,black
2) dark gray,tan,black
3) med. tan, black,white
4) black,dark purple,white
60% woodland beige, 20% medium tan, 20% black
The wife says it looks like a bowling ball, but I like it.
-Dan
1/3 each Olive Drab, Black and Light Tan.
The pic makes it look lighter that it really is but if I was ordering another one today it would be the same other than I'd go with Medium Tan.
DT
60% OD, 20% each black and light gray
50% Grey, 25% Black, 25% White
50% OD, 25% Black, 25% Med Tan
50% Dark Gray
30% Black
20% White
50% Gray 25% black 25% red
Heres a couple.
and
dave
Scott, 3rd rifle down.....what is the colors and percentages if you dont mind.
I thinking of having one done in
purple 65%
black 25%
dark gray 10%
40/40/20-Purple/white/black.
50/50 Black and Red, CZ AHR pattern on my 9.3x62
I'm liking that purple one a lot...always thought purple would look good. "Bomber" on the tang 77 is classic.
I think the mountain rifle stock is 70 OD, 15 woodland biege, 15 light green. The classic is 50 OD, 25 woodland biege, 25 light green.
Steelhead, what percentages do your rifles have? Especially the Weatherby Stainless!
Do you use it for hunting or just on the shooting range? What scope is it on this rifle?
The Weatherby is 1/3rd red/yellow/orange the scope is a Leupold 3.5-10x with target turrets.
Yes it is used for hunting. All my rifles are put together for hunting, I don't have a single rifle just for target use.
This is my long range wolf/coyote rifle. White/Black/Grey
Very nice ... you don't see too many stocks with white as the base/dominant color ...
Very nice guys. now if I could only choose.........
Make up your own!!!!!!
George
Oh dont worry I plan on it. Just cant decide which base color yet. Im taking it all in and will eventually place my order. Im not in a big hurry as I have 2 guns being built right now and one micky still at the factory.
For the record 50/50 black/white ain't never a bad choice, but the Bumblebee is by far my favorite.
I was leaning twords a simple 50/50 black grey
Light gray and I would agree.
Try pink, light brown, and yellow............I dare ya.
1/3 of each
you pay for it I will sport it
Heck I will even take it to deer camp.
Very nice ... you don't see too many stocks with white as the base/dominant color ...
I did one and it was one of my favorites...
Black, light grey, medium grey. Not a McSwirly, but....
Very nice ... you don't see too many stocks with white as the base/dominant color ...
I did one and it was one of my favorites...
what happened to it?
60%OD, 20% LT Grey, 20% Black
50%Lt GFrey, 30% White, 20% Black
No explanation needed...
the Bumblebee is by far my favorite
What is the color mix on it? 50/50 blk & yellow?
Dammmmm!!!! Coupla my sticks have magically appeared
on this thread.....HMMMMMMM!!!!!
Laffin!!!
George
60/40, the next will be 50/50.
I have another one on the way now. 50/25/25 Black,lt gray, dk gray.
Waiting on the big brown truck. Hopefully it will be here within the hour........
This is my long range wolf/coyote rifle. White/Black/Grey
That thing kicks azz. What bolt knob/barrel?
well you guys suck. you need more kids or something... i am anxiously waiting for 2 a5's in a 1/3 mix for each.
long 700 in dark brown med brown and tan
short 700 in black od and purple
have no idea what they will look like.....
woofer
I DON'T need more kids.......grin. I have half the neighborhood kids here daily.
The big brown truck came, will post pics after my post-kids-are-gone-Beam-and-Coke is done.........

Lawton 7000 Receiver and Lilja 27" 10 Twist #7 .25-06 AI
Sold it-- was one of my firsts--No pics
I am itching for a fast twist .22-250AI or .223 AI in a A3-5 based on a mostly white stock(trying to decide on the other two colors).
call me to discuss sometime soon ... I want to hear about it prior to you sealing the deal ... (grin)
Will do-- I am thinking of a patriotic theme but I am leary of the McMillan red colors-- I have never seen two come out the same, and I don't want a orange, white and blue stock...
orange, white and blue. I could dig that.
Pmc
Has anyone done a 40-30-30 Light grey/red or burgundy/black? If so pics?
A crappy pic, but one of my model 70 375 H&H. I should go out and snap another outside since it's so nice out right now.
McM Remington Hunter : 80/20 ?green/white. Pictured here is my 17 Little Nasty (PPC -.180" short) custom build on a 40x single shot action. Lilja #5 fluted and finished at 22". Action finish by Metalloy.
25 gr Berger on top of 22.3 grs N133 yields 4150 fps. A coyotes worst nightmare !

That's a very good idea!
We are waiting!
60% Forest green 30% black 10% light grey
Better pic's 40/40/20 Light gray/OD/black
Has anyone done a 40-30-30 Light grey/red or burgundy/black? If so pics?
Not quite but similar.
It is 60% black- Burgendy- Lt. Grey.
ML
Good looking stock, what did you do to get the shine?
It was sprayed with automotive clear coat.
ML
Wildcats,
What are the color percentages on this stock?
White ?%
Black ?%
Grey ?%
I like that combo!
This is my current favorite, 50/50 red/black:
Don't currently have this one, but really liked it too, 80/20 or 70/30 (can't remember for sure)burgandy/black:
John
hondo,
That second rifle looks outstanding.
couple new ones.
Paul, whats the percentage on that pink and light grey one?
the pink really seems to fade out where the stock is 'checkered' ... is it that drastic in person, or is the camera just not capturing it well?
still, it looks good ... is it for you or Barbie?
ElmerKeith,
Sorry it took so long, but here's a better picture:
Not a lightweight by any means, but a favorite of mine.
This is my new IBS Heavy Gun Stock, delivered yesterday from McMillan. It was ordered Feb. 6th 2008. It is a 50HBR in a Flat Top configuration with 6 to 8 lbs. of lead added to the butt, it should weight 21 lbs. Colors are Medium Blue to Blue to Black Butt in a flame pattern. I think it turned out almost exactly as I wanted it to. I have a set of Bill Shehane's Chromed Steel Slides that will be afixed to the bottom of the forearm (Front Slide is 8" wide) and to the bottom of the butt (Rear slide is 3" wide). I'll be fabricating a 316 Grade Stainless Butt Plate over the next two weeks. I'll post another pic when the Butt is installed.
My only McFlame to date........Red,White and Blue.
Ruger M77 MKII SS with 338-06 Shilen #3.
Robert
Just got mine in last R&R...... 60/20/20 White/Light Gray/Dark Gray
Nice.....very nice
60%white,20%light gray, 20%Dark gray will be my next order......hope it turns out as good as yours
I've copied a mixture of color precentages before to have it turn out totally different......always left me wondering if the posted percentages were correct......kinda like a good cook omitting the secert ingredient when passing down the recipe.
Here's my last special 50% light tan, 25% white, 25% light gray.......something different, I call it the "Montana Drought" pattern

Hellfire Camo:
I've always been partial to this mix.
50/25/25 Forest Green/Black/Grey
Brother Bill, that McSwirly mixture on that SS rifle looks awesome. Is that bead blast finish on the barrel and action? It almost looks coated in something but I can't quite tell. If so what is it?
60red20ltgry20black
Yep, its been blasted.......am hoping to get it dialed in this next R&R.
Bearstalker.....can you give us the details on your rifle???? It's very nice looking. DS
Bearstalker.....can you give us the details on your rifle???? It's very nice looking. DS
Sure can. Not a whole lot to it, just a factory Winchester Model 70 classic 375 H&H barreled action sitting in a McMillan super grade swirly stock. Also put a New England express rear sight on the rifle. Talley quick-release rings and bases. Leupold VX-III 1.75-6x32.
Brother Bill is this pic from the back deck at your house?
Just got mine in last R&R...... 60/20/20 White/Light Gray/Dark Gray
2muchgun,
Which colors at what percent please? I really like this one. I'm guessing dark gray/black/white.???
Looking for colors for my 22-250 build.
Thanks,
David
Brother Bill is this pic from the back deck at your house?
I have yet to figure out if it is the back deck or the front deck....but yep, thats at the house.
Got this one from FOsteology: Not sure of the mix, but it looks better in person...Guessing 60%olive, 20% white 20% black
This need to be back at the top just so we can look at the sweet rigs on here.
Guessing 60%olive, 20% white 20% black
I think you're right. That is the percentage of my McSwirly...
RH
This one is 50/25/25 of Olive, black, and white. I'm sweet on that color combo too, with stainess or black metal. Please excuse the camera-phone quality photography.
JPro, what the percentages on the purple one there?
40 purple, 40 white, 20 black. I was going to use it on my 223AI, but wound up using a VLS 700 stock. Shame that an A5 sits naked in the corner of my gun room, but I'll get it set up sometime soon.
Don't know the mix, but this is my only Mcswirly...
Does anyone think 60/20/20 white, light gray, dark gray would look good with a graphite black action/rings/black scope and stainless barrel?
I think it would look great!
I want to do some variation of Brother Bill's on the previous page of 60/20/20 white/light gray/dark gray. But it's hard to believe his stock came out that way with those percentages. It would be a total 60% white to 40% total gray, but there's no more white than gray on that stock. I'm trying to stay away from a completely white base color. Maybe I should do a 40/30/30 light gray/white/dark gray?
Does anyone have a picture of a stock that has "medium green" in it?
Here is my newest. It only took 8 months (long story
) but I really like it.
33% Olive 33% Woodland beige 33% Light grey
That is a nice-lookin stock. Good call on the color combo.
4 months and 20 days later....
70% black, 20% olive, and 10% light grey
This thread is too good to die, bump.
604... I like that color combo...
604... I like that color combo...
Thanks 7_08FAN. It wasn't what I expected, but it has since grown on me.
No way in hell there is 70% black in that stock. Regardless, it looks great. Nice rifle you got there.
No way in hell there is 70% black in that stock. Regardless, it looks great. Nice rifle you got there.
That's what I was thinking. Perhaps McMillan got it wrong and went with 70 olive and 20 black instead of 70 black 20 olive.
Seems this one needs a bump for the holidays
50%black 50% orange. One of my Fav. .223ai.
Not sure on the color ratio. Guess I'd have to ask Donovan. Blue/purple. .243ai
60% purple 40% grape. G/f's .223ai.
Superseal - I would love to know the color combo on your blue rifle. I think a Swirley in that color just may be my Xmas present to myself!
Same rifle one in the sunlight the other taken with a setting sun.
70/30 Turquoise/white
I'm really starting to hate you guys ! ...grin
I think I'll just make a bunch of stocks and skip the rifle part ! lol
Some sick color combos.
A little different one. Not actually my choices but it turned out pertty good. Grey, OD and Tan.
Superseal - I would love to know the color combo on your blue rifle. I think a Swirley in that color just may be my Xmas present to myself!
That stock was ordered as 50/50 Medium Blue/Purple.
Superseal - I would love to know the color combo on your blue rifle. I think a Swirley in that color just may be my Xmas present to myself!
That stock was ordered as 50/50 Medium Blue/Purple.
Thanks very much for the info!
Has anyone got a red & white & green, kinda christmasy?
Here's a few!...
Same rifle one in the sunlight the other taken with a setting sun.
70/30 Turquoise/white
Sactroller,
That's a crazy cool color combo there. It's sort of like the House of Kolor paints that shift colors in the sunlight on cars.
Thumbs Up,
lnf
So is it just me, or does the purple on SuperSeal's stock look more like black? If I was to order this combo, would including a picture of this stock (with the owners permission) along with the order be the best way to duplicate this color? Thanks preemptively for schooling a Swirley noob!
Probably the photo but the purple is fairly dark. Much depends on the color you 'share' it with.
I'm thinking there isn't a patent on color schemes, run with what you like.
Here's a few!...
What the % on the 3rd from the right on the bottom pic.
Nice collection btw!
I think he's talking about the fibergrain stock.
LOL....O' my other right!.....yeah that is a Fibergrain, which is no longer offered by McM....
Funny, i was wondering how hard it was to figure out blue/white myself.
Looking at the picture, the Fibergrain looks like a swirly!
If I was guessing, I would say 80% med Brown 20% Black!....lol
Here's a 50/50 dark black/light black......
Holy Crap ramhunter!
Those all yours ? nice
All but 4 are mine...and the 4 belong to my two sons!....
Have two more A5's on order from McM.....grin
Here's a 50/50 dark black/light black......
It almost looks like there is some purple in there to me.
I really like that set up! has me wanting a 300 savage. guess i could use a backup deer rifle?
does anyone have one that looks like SWISS Alpenflage(dark green/light green/red brown),I think?
So is it just me, or does the purple on SuperSeal's stock look more like black? If I was to order this combo, would including a picture of this stock (with the owners permission) along with the order be the best way to duplicate this color? Thanks preemptively for schooling a Swirley noob!
Here's another purple to give more perspective. This is 40% purple, 40% light gray and 20% turquoise. I really like it.
Same rifle one in the sunlight the other taken with a setting sun.
70/30 Turquoise/white
I've always really liked that stock. I see a 60 turquoise 40 light grey in my future!
50% black, 25% olive, 25% light gray.
Crappy picture but here's a 50% black 50% dark gray.
Superseal, that looks awesome. I'm think about ordering a Swirly similar in configuration right now. Do you have any other pics?
Paul, what are the percentages on the green stock, if you dont mind?
it's 60 med green/25 black/ 15 blue.
You guys finally got to me. I ordered my first one yesterday. Thanks for the pictures.
Here are mine.
Hey Paul, I got a Tikka 65 or Sako Hunter for a Remington ADL. 60% olive, 40% black. Probably the same as Buzz has posted. After I get my first I can get all crazy and get a blue or purple like you Paul!!
The stock I ordered was for a 30-06, if I wanted to put a 7 mag. in the stock instead of the 30-06 would it work?
If you are running factory barrels, the 06 is typically a standard sporter while the 7RM is typically a slightly beefier magnum contour. The stainless fluted 06's are magnum contour. So the fit will depend on what you ordered and what barreled actions you have.
50% pink, 30% light blue, 20% white.
I've got another on order...a Remington Compact (same as above) 60% purple, 20% yellow and 20% gray.
Depends on barrel contour. that's the only thing that'll hold you up.
TTT, I love looking at this post and I am getting ready to order a new stock. I figured with tax time coming some people may have some extra cash and be thinking of ordering, so time to bring it up.
.243ai
Very nice pics superseal.
SS,
Is that the Mt Rifle pattern? Veddy nice !
As Darren mentioned, Classic.
Here's some Mnt rifle stocks. I like the Mnt rifle stock better then the classic. Fits me a little better. Like the slimmer feeling on the Mnt stocks.
.223ai
.17rem
I really like the stock on that .223ai, would you mind providing the %'s?
Thanks!
I really like the stock on that .223ai, would you mind providing the %'s?
Thanks!
I believe it's orange & black 50/50.
Sactoller,
What is this color combo/percentages on our .308 Norma? I really like that and I'm thinking about something similar for my .264 Win Mag.
Thanks,
David
[quote=sactoller].308 Norma
new pic of the a-5, 34/33/33 od/tan/black
Figured I'd update this and put all mine in the same post...
Rifle in front is 60% Woodland Beige, 20% Medium Tan, 20% Black
Rifle in back is 50% Woodland Beige, 30% Medium Tan, and 20% Black
40% Woodland Beige, 30% Medium Tan, and 30% Black
75% White, 25% Orange
80% Blue, 10% Dark Grey, 10% White
I like that color combo, so I just ordered a McMillan Hunter in 50/30/20 Purple/Turquois/LightGray for my 700 LVSF parts guns. Now all I have to do is wait for UPS to drop it on the front step. Ordered it too late for shooting pdogs on the Rosebud this year, but as a 22-250 with a 1 in 12" ROT, it could be a deer rifle with 60 grain Partitions in 11/10.
Thank you for sharing the picture of your rifle, if I hadn't seen how good that color combo looks, I never would have thought to try it.
Jeff

Dennis Inaz,
That colour combination is awsome... pls post some pictures when you finish the irons in black.
This colour, and another one posted in the past which was read or burgunduy (not quite sure) with black are my favourites.
I was trying to find them the other to show them to a friend but could not find them... could soemeone pls redirect me to that post?
Thank you.

OK, gotta break in this barrel and off for Melonite treatment it goes.
My first one...
70% Med Blue, 30% Black...As another guy put it on a different site "if cookie monster were to have a gun that would be it"
Wow. That's a fine looking rig.
Off specials list. This one was 50% black, 25 light grey, 25 white. Was going to do a metal treatment to the old remmy but actually kind of like it as is.

I have a Sako 75 Finnlite, and I want a combo that will match the stainless on the rifle. I really like the greys and whites. I don't suppose anyone has a 40/30/30 dark gray, light gray, white? I'm thinking it would look nice. I don't want it too light and I don't want it too dark. Maybe I need to change those to 50/30/20. I would hate to pick a combo and be dissapointed with the results. This is driving me nuts.
So I have a few questions, forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere:
1. Can someone direct me to a chart somewhere that shows barrel profiles for stock Remington 700s? Specifically, 700 Classics in .25-06 and .35 Whelen, and an SPS-SS in .257 Weatherby.
2. Pillar bed or not?
Remington has a standard sporter and a magnum sporter. Your Classics are standard sporters. The 257WBY will be a magnum sporter...

McSwirly's look good. Really adds something to a rifle. Definately the new "bowling ball" look. What's next?
60 black/ 40 red

Some amazing rigs in this thread. I just wasted 2 hours of my life looking at pictures..but in a good way!

Just go the e-mail yesterday, the first of my McSwirleys is on the way. To be honest with you, I don't even remember what I ordered... I know it's a Remington Classic pattern for my .25-06, but colors, I have no idea. Might have some purple in it.
All I know is it will be waiting for me when I get home from SoCal. Happy birthday to me!
The next one will be a little more subdued, I think it's something like one of the tans, black, and one of the greys.

The pictured was 40% purple / 40% lt. grey / 20% turquoise. The one still being made will be 50% olive / 30% lt. tan / 20% black.
I wish McM had a gold in the color mix, I'd love a purple, gold and white or gray mix.
I dunno, man. Purple and gold sounds too much like University of Washington colors!
Laffin' on how it's hip to "pose" with nothing, then extoll upon same...like it's sumptin'.
Pretty funny!...........
Attached is a picture of my first McSwirly stocks. I think the pair turned out perfectly and the McSwirly stocks are the nicest I've owned. Both are 60% Olive Drab, 30% Tan, 10% Black. I plan to order another very soon!
Crap...now I'm ticked!! After posting the picture of my two McSwirly's I decided, what the heck, might as well order the second of my next matching pair. I couldn't see the stock pattern that I'd ordered previously on Rick's site so I visit the McMillan web site and to my despair this is what I find:
WEATHERBY VANGUARD
STOCK DISCONTINUEDI could just bite nails in two!!! This stock is perfect for the standard Mark V with the 6-lug action, now gone! Now I have one of a pair...ugh. I guess I should have ordered sooner but I never dreamed that pattern would be canned.
Here is a Classic with 60% Black, 20% red, and 20% gray. I like.
I dunno, man. Purple and gold sounds too much like University of Washington colors!
I'd love to have one!!
My college colors were Purple & Gold. A pimped out rifle would be extremely cool!!!
LOL....O' my other right!.....yeah that is a Fibergrain, which is no longer offered by McM....
Too bad about the fibergrain. Looks good.
.
Hey Stick, does this count as "posing with sumptin"?
I'm curious if the top and bottom of your stocks still show a distinct line where the halfs were put together?
All of mine have the mold lines, although they are typically smoothed over. Paint would hide them, but paint sucks.... (grin)
I'm curious if the top and bottom of your stocks still show a distinct line where the halfs were put together?
All of mine do. NOBODY ever notices them except the owner of the rifle...

Love this thread, more photos please!

I hear pink is all the rage this spring...
Reminds me of women comparing purses and colors for blinds and drapes.
Who cares what color the curtains are, as long as they match the carpet?
A small throw rug can add color, texture, and design elements to a room with hardwoods though.
Well seeing as we can't plug the colors choices into the McMillan site to see kind of what the stock ordered will look like, this is the next best thing!!!
Although I prefer wood stocks, seeing these photos has swayed me into perhaps ordering a McMillan, just to see if there is a benefit.
I know, I certainly find the looks of some of these stocks very appealing
Respects,
Richard

Well, I got my McSwirley in the post today, took about 2.5 - 3 months, start to finish. Got to thank Rick for the really good service on ordering, checking, re-checking and shipment. Excellent service.
Now the specs, this stock is a Sako Hunter left hand in a Winchester M70 right hand action, colours are 50% forest green, 25% dark grey and 25% white. Pillars installed, 14" LOP and a 1" decelerator. The rifle is a push feed M70 with a Bartlein 1-8" #2 barrel, 24" long. Calibre is 7x57mm.
Scope is a Leupold 4.5-14. It weighs 8lb 11 oz empty.
50/50 black white
For the record 50/50 black/white ain't never a bad choice, but the Bumblebee is by far my favorite.
Mine too though the Wby is also the ticket.
He guys please forgive me, but are the McMillan stocks worth the money. I have never owned one and other than reading about them on here, I am not familiar with them. It appears that those stocks are as favorite on here. What is it that sets them apart from the others such as Bell and Carson? Lightweight, Strength, Color Options? I must say you guys have posted some great looking rifle stocks.
they are worth it. quality, options, and warranty.
I don't know the percentage of color, but this one is green, black and white. The rifle is a Rem 700 in 7 Weatherby mag.
The area was covered in snow when I started hunting..

Who cares what color the curtains are, as long as they match the carpet?

Here in Oregon, we can hunt in brown Carharts and buckskin jackets if we want to (and I've seen idiots doing just that).

I asked him too - 1/3 brown, 1/3 tan, 1/3 black. I've got one on order
Brute,
It's 70% brown, 15% black, and 15% light tan. Tim McWhorter had another one in his shop when I went there and I picked it for this new gun right away.
My first McSwirly.
33% each of Woodland Beige, medium tan and olive Flamed front to back in that order. The first two colors are a lot closer than I expected, but all is good. It obviously doesnt really matter.
I need to bed it in and ready to go. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Well... I got skunked this past deer season and I'm not having much luck with the Smurfs either! Might have to unload some dollars and invest in a "Smurfette Decoy".

Yes, It's the only one they offer as of now, It is a little wide up front but feels real good to me. You would have room for a heavy/bull barrel if you wanted it set-up that way and may look a little better. The Mach-2 is my go to gun for tree rats, small stuff etc. I hunt behind dogs and do alot of walking I don't think I'll have any problem packing this around.
That scope is kinda cool especially with that stock - nice combo!!

I can honestly say I thought the swirly stocks were pretty darn ugly. But after seeing these pic's, I feel differently now. Kind of has me thinking about getting myself one.
Hang out with ugly chicks long enough and you'll want one of those too.
Sorry rockchucker but that is one ugly stock. I think it is the turquoise.
Gotta say I like moosemunchers rig, but I would want it the same as the fore end all the way back to the butt stock.

Mine is a drop in and a tight one at that. Barrel is floated nicely off the bat. Came through JW Precision in 3 months. For whatever reason, he's into Manners now and isn't going to deal with McMillan. Dumb [bleep] move if you ask me.....
Posted this one elsewhere, but figure it deserves to be in the Mcswirly thread too.

Also ordered a 70/15/15 Olive/Tan/Black for my Ruger, but I thought hard about another 50/50 O/B for it.
I like the Sako Classic pattern. Bought one for my Howa 7Wizzum, thinking about another one for my Vanguard .223. I like the orange/black, but I think my next stock might be a McFlame.
I think I might do that on a varmint rifle, but I'd have to think hard about a big game rifle in a McFlame.

Am i crazy or have i seen some cheek pieces on the same side as the bolt on a couple rifles? How did you get McM to do them? I am left handed running right bolt Guns as . If i gad to operate a left bolt gun the critters would probably start walking over and laughing at me.
You can order them that way.
Right handed bolt left handed stock orientation....etc
Here is an example on their order form.
Had McM's for years and years and never knew!! thanks!!
Well can say I learned something today! I too am right handed and shoot left handed (Left Eye Dom.)as is my wife. I guess I'll to try an order my next one that way.

Thanks for the compliment, and I'm sure you'll get a good'un. McMillan has gotten a lot of practice just from the Campfire folks' orders.
And, Rick seems to be a helluva fella to deal with.

Actually, I have a KS (yellow/orange/black McFlame) coming for a 6.5-06 build, and a Ruger Classic (light green/white McSwirley, thanks steelhead) for a .358 Win. coming first.

I love that stock! It looks great with the black finish on the rifle!
Congratulations. I think it turned out really nice, specially with the irons in black.
Recently saw another 50/50 combination in the forum that came out almost black, specially in the forearm, but this one is perfect in my opinion.
By what other poster said, there seems to be a big difference if you order a 50/50 red/black or or a 50/50 black/red.
The first color listed is the "dominate" color, seemingly regardless of percentages.
Those black and orange's are really growing on me, I think I've found the colour combo for my next one.

That one looks nice.
Just got my latest McMillan last week, and it's now fitted to my Sako 75 in .204R. This is 60% Dark Grey, 25% Black and 15% White.
Goes quite nicely with my other Sako 75, which is 60% OD, 20% Black and 20% Dark Grey from memory.
Given not one of these rifles had a factory barrel on, I was also very impressed at how no extra fitting needed to be done after I answered the questions re profiles - just a straight bedding job in each.
Final one is my Rem 700 in 300WSM, but this was an off the shelf A5 in (I think) 60% OD and 40% black.

Apparently, that is dependant on rifle brand. I ordered two Sako classics with a couple of days of each other, the first for a Howa short action, and the second for a Ruger short action. The Howa arrived in less than 12 weeks, whereas the Ruger took about 26 weeks. When I received my Ruger stock, I began seeing where others who had ordered for the same brand began receiving theirs.
I don't know for sure, but it appears that they set up to do an action, process the orders, go to the next action, so forth and so on. It makes business sense to do so, but it can be frustrating if your action is a little towards the back of the queue.(sp?)

I'd like to see more pictures of this stock. It looks good.
I dig that one as well, it's the look I was hoping for, but I don't think mine turned out as well. I still like it, though.
No offense, but I agree. Bruzer's stock does look a lot better. It just goes to show you how each stock turns out differently I guess.
None taken. Maybe I should have specified a darker shade of blue. I'm sure I'll be trying again, but next time I'll attach a pic of Bruzer's stock for reference.
We need to see a lot more of the flame patterns if anyone has one.

I got all the (assembled, I have a couple more that I don't have actions for) kids together for a group shot:
(Man, it's tough getting a decent exposure for both the Arctic camo and the darker Swirleys in the same pic!)
The middle Black, Orange, and Yellow is my favorite!
Looking great..I love all of them.

sent the above picture in with my order to Mcmillan asking for the same color

received this one... would have liked a little more black but it will work

What were the colors and percentages for the 4th from the right? Thanks.
Liking those McWoodies. Mine is on order but waivered on the red pad and went black. That one looks sweet.
Copy of one of Steelhead's stocks.
70% Black, 30% Med gray. I could easily hide this rifle in a stack of 1985 bowling balls......

What is the percentages and colors? I can't find the one you copied.
Don't remember off the top of my head, but it was something like 60% light green 40% white. Might be 70/30.

Thanks thinking of doing one 34% light green, 33% light grey and 33% white for the stainless hawkeye I just ordered. May also go 60% light green and 40% light grey or grey depending on how dark the hawkeye matte stainless is.
Here's the little ladies new rifle. McMillan Classic, 60% purple, 40% grape.

That's a mean 'lookin rig RHutch. Almost as mean as your tiger-stripe rifle..
This one came today too. 75% black, 25% OD green. BORING!

The tiger stripe, while inhumanely ugly, is a bad-ass weapon. Chuck Norris dreams of such a rifle.

That is a great looking stock!!!
And, the black barreled action really works perfectly on it.

Nice looking stock! I may have to order another McFlame...
My new Rhino Camo.....
Might have to order one of them, too.
Any pics of the tiger stripe? Percentages?
What the heck. Here she is again. 70% black, 30% OD IIRC.
Cant recall if I posted this one. One of my favs.
60% Med Tan, 20% black, 20% OD or thereabouts.
I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread again. Now I really want an red/black swirly for my 375 H&H....
A crappy pic, but one of my model 70 375 H&H. I should go out and snap another outside since it's so nice out right now.
First Swirly, Model 7 KS pattern.

I can't see the pics. All i see is a small x. any tips for getting the pics to show up?
Sometimes this is a sign your computer memory is reaching capacity. Right click on the X, a drop down box will appear. Click on show picture.
Once finished. Go to your temporary internet files and delete those files to clear up some memory on your computer.

Is that a Mountain Rifle pattern?
Sporter, Dan. Quite a bit chunkier than an MR.
Groovy....
Best looking McSwirly I've seen so far, especially considering my next rifle will be another stainless 700
Thank you sir! I want to put a blue anodized bolt shroud and trigger guard on it so I have a proper Jeff_O Special!
Anyone got something like a 50% dark green, 25% black, 25% medium brown? Trying to picture how this combo would do in the pine forests around here.

This is going to the gunsmith to be punched, but I couldn't resist putting it together.

Anyone have a pick of Black, Burgundy, Dark Grey (45:35:20)? Preferably in a Winchester Hunter.

I like really the 3rd (greenish swirly), 4th (McFlame) and last (dark swirly) the best.
If I did a red-white-blue I would have the tip a darker shade of blue, white in the middle and red on the butt.
Mcwoody 7/08
What is the exact colors and percentages used to make this stock? Did you use dark brown and black?
It looks soooo much better than many other McWoodies I've seen, I'm wondering if it is because it was mixed with "dark brown" and black 50/50?
Other McWoodies that don't look as good may have used a lighter brown. This could be one reason why your stock looks soooo much better than others.
Also, did you leave it as you received it or did you do any wet sanding?
Me too. I'd like to know as well.

With Swirlies, each one is like a snowflake - unique and special. If you order one thinking you will duplicate another exactly, there's a good chance you will be sadly mistaken.
Also....lighting makes all the difference in photos.

Not that it would necessarilary look the same if ordered the same, but the stock on the M700 .257 Weatherby is a Rem Classic in 50% olive/30% light tan/20% black, the M700 pre-6.5-06 is 1/3 each yellow/orange/black on a KS, the Supergrade M70 is 50/50 black white.
I do wish I would have ordered dark blue on the A3 Sporter rather than 'regular' blue. I also wish I would have had the action slid forward about a 1/2" in the stock. Well, there's always the next one...
nice
40% Light Grey,40% Olive,20% Black.....
50/50 Black/Orange.
There's a bit of sun glare on this shot but if you hit reply and see it full size you can see more detail.

It's about perfect, in my mind.
Hey, I just finishing compiling a massive photo gallery of over 200 McMillan stocks to help people find their perfect color ratio. I thought you guys might find it helpful.
Check it out at
http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/07/03/200-mcmillan-stock-colors-photos/
Thanks for the leg work and getting this done....! Tons of work I'm sure!! I for one, am greatly appreciative!!!

Hey! I see at least three of mine on there!
I bookmarked this page. I may come in handy some day.
Yes, thanks very much for that. I added a comment to clarify one of mine.

Hey! I see at least three of mine on there!
I see one of mine too. It would have been good to acknowledge the source of the photos, otherwise you are dragging visitors away from Rick's site. I have just added the following info and comment on the pic of my stock:
"This one is a McMillan KS for a Remington left hand long action. Weighs 32oz. The spacer at the butt is required to get to my preferred 14 1/8″ length of pull. This image was harvested from the customs forum on https://www.24hourcampfire.com"
I absolutely understand, and that is something I will try to do. I definitely don't want to steal visitors from anyone. I did see your comments, and will try to add some to the other photos to attribute where they came from and even try to link back to them. Sorry I didn't think of this before.
I've seen feedback on another forum post, and would just like to clarify ... I do totally respect owernship. Its what seperates America from the socialist countries. If I have posted a picture of your stock and you would like me to remove it from the gallery ... I will immediately. Just add a comment on whatever photo it is, and I will do my best to have it down ASAP.
I honestly am just trying to help people who are considering buying a McMillan stock. I personally was in that position a few months ago, and it was painful to try to decide what to go with because you feel like you are guessing and just hope it turns out like you envision. Luckily there are a lot of great people out there willing to share photos of their stocks along with the color ratios they used, and I really appreciate those people and would never want for them to feel like I stole from them somehow.
I literally spent days working on those photo galleries, and don't get paid a dime for any of this. I'm an IT guy, and I saw a way I could make this process easier on people that are in the same position that I was. I think the McMillan stocks are amazing, and seeing some examples may give people to confidence they need to actually place the order and know they will get something they'll be proud of.
Thanks for your understanding, and I will work to add the source of the photos. If you notice one I don't have it on, please add it. And again, if I've posted a photo of your stock and you'd like me to remove it from the gallery ... please just let me know.
Thanks for your explanation and assurances. There is no doubt you have created a great resource for anyone selecting swirly colours. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into it.

Cool stock, man. I am going to try the side mounted flush-cups one of these days. And just for gets and shiggles, I may order a 50 yellow/50 black and a 50 black/50 yellow just to see what the difference might turn out to be...
Thx, I wish the black didn't mix with the yellow, but I'm still happy with the stock. It's different and that's what I wanted.

That looks good Mike, I think you will like the GS! got my third one ordered
I think a 60% black and 40% yellow might look pretty good. And even hide better in the woods than you might think.

Three new to me.......

I sent a 50/50 back once that came out kinda like that. Prolly stupid but like the next one very much.
I know that swirls are a gamble but 50/50 shouldn't be 80/20 either. I still like the looks of all yours though.
I ordered the wife a 70/30 light blue white. Stock showed up about 70/30 med blue light blue.....sticker said 90/10 med blue light blue....haha. She loved it though.
Heres mine
60% Light Green 40% Black
Great colors Brett.. Thats nice.
Appreciate it.
I really enjoy this thread but it's hard on the pocket book.
Black, Red and Blue Mcflame it didn't turn out just like I wanted it but its growing on me
That may be the best looking flame I've seen.
Just picked up this Remington 700 XRCII 30-06 with a McSwirly. When I saw it, I had to have it. Looks to me like 50% medium tan, 25% light tan and 25% black.
I think this is a Mcswirly. Pretty standard for the colors.
Here is a Model 70 featherweight 60% OD green 20% black 20% medium tan
I like that mix... I could see ordering that in an A3 or A5....
60% Dark Green 20% Medium Brown 20% Medium Gray
Dark McWoody
Here is my McWoody.
Not sure of the color mix but here is mine. Picture looks more tan than it is for some reason.
Coyote bomber and old model 70 30-06:

I love the dark McWoody stock on that rifle!
It is perfect with the red pad!!!
60/40 Light blue and white:

That's the same stock; I wasn't using it so I figured BSA would give it a good home
I wondered how McMillan could make two Swirleys identical...
Ha ha... O45 is a hell of a guy. I guess I just commented more about this stock, so he contacted me and I made the plunge. I really like the stock. Thanks again O45 and KDK, hope things are going well for you.
Hmmm....me thinks many of these could be classified as:
'Whore House Specials'!!

Swirly, not woody.. geesh
I didn't look thru the whole thread. Anyone done a "McWoody"? Is it a good facsimile of a classic wood look?
Guess I should have just gone to the next to last page...
Still would like opinions. Thanks.
There's several in the previous few pages of this thread. Handsome stocks, in my opinion, although I do like McMillans speckle-tone paint jobs too.

I've got a speckled custom built .280. Love the look of the stock. Thinking of building a 7x57, and thought the McWoody might give me a classic look with all the benefits of a fiberglass stock.
Any idea of the current wait time? I'm considering ordering my 1st one. Likely a 700 short action classic.
I just got this one in exactly four months!
I think it was a fluke!
I like it, Ingwe.
I've had a McWoody on order since December and placed an order for a 60/40 Black/Orange today. Anticipation...

Nice McWoody on a rifle chambered in an awesome classic.

Does anyone have a Dark-Mcwoody in a compact pattern? Thinking about one of these for my next order.
Nice stocks!
I've looked at this thread multiple times and it always kills me.
As soon as I can get my action paid for, I'm ordering one of these.
Planning to go 40% tan, 35% olive, 25% black.
Barrel and action will be Cerakote graphite black.
[EDIT: FourT6and2, is that a Defiance Deviant Tactical action in your pic? The one I have ordered is a Deviant Hunter.]
Another rifle I have needs some stock work (bedding, new recoil pad, refinish) . . . or I might just replace the stock with a McWoody.

Thomas.....Looks great.....glad it fit without re-bedding it.....just shows how close the machining is on the Classics.....
Thanks Craig, someday I'll try it on a few other Classics to see how they fit. In my mind, it would be nice to have one stock I could swap between different caliber barreled actions depending on the use. I can only use one at a time and they all don't need McMillans to sit in the safe.

I have a McWoody ordered for my 8mm Rem Mag.
I've got a custom rifle being built that I plan to get a 40% tan, 35% olive, 25% black.
Pics when I get 'em. I'm lovin' all these pictures of your stocks!
Just got a new McWoody.
That looks great. Did you just order a McWoody? Or ask for a specific % of colors?
I just asked for a McWoody. No further discussion of color. It came out fairly dark.
I was actually calling to order a tan/olive/black McSwirly for a custom rifle I'm having built. They were asking me questions I couldn't answer yet, like the length of the taper where the barrel narrows down from the chamber end (can't remember what they called it at the moment). So I put that one on hold until the smith gets the barreled action put together. But I was determined to order a stock that day and had been considering a new stock for my 8mm Rem Mag I had bought on gunbroker. So this was sort of a spur-of-the-moment purchase. I dig it. I just got it and put it on this evening. Haven't taken it out to shoot yet. I'll get some better pics in the sunlight, maybe later this week.
Straight out o' the box:

SA 700 classic pattern
50:50 black/dark gray

Dark gray, light gray and black. This will be part of my 280AI build.
45% Dark Green, 30% Black, 25% medium gray
45% Olive, 30% Black, 25% Medium Gray
Both are essentially the same stocks, but the top one is a Magnum fill for a 300 Win. Mag. Would have worked fine in a standard fill, but I preferred the extra weight on that one.
Dasher,
Nice looking stock, what are the percentages ? Thanks in advance.
Thanks
I believe 50/25/25
black, gray, white
I 'd love to see some brightly colored examples. I've gone through the old threads, but they've been decimated by Photobucket. What a shame.
Any one got pictures of McWoody and stainless?
Top is a McWoody on an 8mm Remington Magnum
Bottom is brand new, just picked up today. On a custom 6.5 Sherman Shortmag. A work still in progress. I'm going to get all the metal Cerakoted Graphite Black.
Stock is 40% Light Tan, 35% Olive, 25% Black. There is a lot of green in this stock when viewed in person but it doesn't seem to show much on my computer screen with pics taken with my phone.
Anyone have a mcswirly with a color of something like 60-80% light gray, some medium brown, black ?
Here is my McSwirly on a Remington 700 SPS .308 Win. I have it posted on Gunbroker now pretty sweet deal.
Sorry for some reason photo is too large. Check gunbroker. Sorry.

That's OK, posting for auctions run elsewhere is generally frowned upon here anyway.
Bumping this up to see if anyone has gotten a black/orange stock recently?
Hi, forgive my ignorance, but what is a McSwirley? I am / was an old school blue and wood guy, but Ive gotten older, wimpier and less obsessive with gun cleaning, so, I am interested. I see cerakote word thrown around a lot, is that what Mc Swirleys are? I admit I like the pics and would like to design my own. Do they protect from weather? Do you do it yourself? Would it go good on a ruger american rifle? Thanks any wisdom is much appreciated.
McSwirly is a word used to describe McMillan stocks that have a marble finish. You pick three colors from McMillans color chart, in the percentages you want (adds to 100) and those colors are swirled together…ie McSwirly.
Cerakote is a finish. Check out their website for great info.
