Is anyone shooting the 25x47mm on deer?

What are some pros and cons of this caliber? I am trying to understand where it fits. What is this caliber doing that a slow 257 roberts is not...other than winning a few of BR matches.

Is there a difference in reamer and bullet selction b/w the .25 cal and 6.5 namesake?

There is an older wildcat called the 25x47 based on the 222 Rem Mag case. The 25 cal is .257" diameter and the 6.5 is .264" diameter. The 257 Kimber and my 25-204 Ruger could also be refered to as 25x47", I assume your referring to 25x47mm Lapua not much advantage over the 6.5 version unless your a quarter bore freak and then you'd have a 250 Savage.

Everyone confused?

PS Any cartridge that fires 100gr bullet at 2800 fps or an good 87gr bullet at 3000fps has been doing a fine job ond deer for nearly 100yrs. All above mentioned cartridges work fine on deer.

I having one done on a B- 78. Since iam looking at custom dies anyway. I made some changes to it to hopefully add a bit more case capacity. But then again I'm a .25 freak an already have a .257 Ackley.

Heres my reamer print.

MG, sweet project.

The lapua variety was my original intent.

When the .204 Ruger came out I necked one of those up to .25 cal and seated a 75 grain V-Max in it... it looked like a pretty neat wildcat to me. But, I think that 25 X 47 Lapua would have it beat hands down.

With its small primer pocket and higher pressure rating the 6.5x47 case is a winner. I have cases that have been run pretty hard for 10 ten matches still with tight primer pockets. I am running the 115 berger at 3150 out of a 28 inch 7.5 twist barrel. That is one tough case, it would make a killer quarter bore IMO, but only for a 25cal fanatic otherwise just go with the 6x47 and enjoy. I have the 6.5, 6mm and 223 versions of this case and like them all. If the 6.5 version had a few grains more capacity it would be better, but no complaints whatsoever out of the others.

It should be a winner. Close to a 250 Savage, which is more than adequate.

I'm using a 25/222. It's the longest case I could fit into an L461 Sako. It's PLENTY out to about 200 yds, so yours would do at least that. Another similar idea we tried was a 25BR on a Mini-Mauser action.

sounds good to me

25BR will do 3k w/100gr Noz blue tips

The 47 Lapua case is nice, if anything the fact it's Lapua screams CONSISTENCY and Longevity.

L461 is a nice platform for deuce sized rounds.

new to the forum so that why a very late reply lol
i shoot a 25x47 [ 222 rem mag necked up to .257 ]
i works much better then it should for its size
i use it on white tail, mule deer, antelope, bear, and caribou
and it works very well on all listed. i have taken mule deer with it out to 414 yrds with a 80 gr. barnes TTSX.
and even at that distance the barnes went in and out and dropped the deer in his tracks. i now have 2 rifles chambered in this round 1 is a cooper model 21 ser# 3 and the other is a ultra light arms model 29S.

Where are you guys finding a gunsmith with a 25x47 reamer ?

Pac-nor has a .25 TCU and thats about all I could find in a small .25 cal.

You could run it with a 222 RM reamer or 6x47 and use a 25 in the throat.

As stated by the original poster, the subject here is the .25x47Lapua, not the cartridge based off the 222 magnum. Also, at the pressure the Lapua case will run, you are going to far exceed 2800fps with a 100gr bullet. I'd be surprised if you can't reach 3100 (assuming a long barrel, though, not one of Steelheads 21 inchers....)
