WHo does good custom builds off the SAKO actions?
Which model do you prefer the 75 or 85 for builds? WHy?
Thanks
Can I see some pics of yours?

Probably the alpha and the omega of Sako customs. He's pricey too!! Can't imagine a good enough reason to choose one model over the other for a custom. Both are great actions. Comes down to whichever you find more aesthetically pleasing. I've had both and like my 85 the best. If I could build on any Sako action, I would probably choose one of the A models. Mine would best be described as semi-custom.

Sako 85 Finnlight in .308 Winchester. Had McMillan pillar bed and glass bed into a Sako Classic Edge stock. Secretly wish it was a .284 Winchester!!! blush

I've put 3 sako 75's in mcmillan edge stocks and they ended up a very nice, semi-custom rifle. If you want to get more custom then that then I can't help you, but I've had Lee (aka redneck)work on my '06 and am pleased with his work. I haven't owned a model 85 yet, but my 75's are all gems!
pics?
I'll get pics up tonight
I personally prefer the model 75 stock over the m85.

I just picked my custom m75 up yesterday morning. Its a Sako m75 Greywolf that was a new 25-06 and got a new #5 PacNor barrel built into a 338-06AI. The barrel was suppose to have six 1/4" wide flutes and the flutes powder coated gunmetal grey to match my Leupold VX3 scope. The rest of the barrel was to be beadblasted to factory stainless look. BUt they cut 8 smaller flutes, powdercoated the entire barrel, receiver, bolt handle, new style Sako Optilok rings, trigger guard and face plate of the clip. Looks good. Was kind of dissapointed from what I was anticipating, but my gunsmith said they will do whatever I chose-either replace with new barrel and beadblast receiver to stainless look OR keep it and they will make it worth to keep as is. They did knock off the powdercoat charges.

My gunsmith said to take and shoot it for now, so I'll develope loads with 225gr Accubonds and TTSX's.

I'll post pics a bit later.
As mentioned, here is a pic of my custom Sako m75 Greywolf. [Linked Image]

I'll do a posting of my project rifle with more pics and load development.
Nice RIFLE. Might be a first in that chambering.

Not that you asked, but IMR4320 put 225s in 1/2 MOA at 2670 mv for me, my go to powder for 338/06. Used WW '06 brass.

Good luck.
Here's mine built on a Sako 75 V action. I love the Sako action - smooth, rugged, and an awesome trigger. I had Patriot Arms build this one for me.

I have 5 custom Sako- 75's hard to argue there is a better factory rifle out there. But then again I'm not a M-700 fan.

You are like me MntnGoat, I love my Sakos model 75's and NOT A REMINGTON fan at all. Sweet looking rifles you have there.

I'm looking at selling one of my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM to my bro-in-law and buying a used/mint Sako m75ss 270WSM with a Macmillan stock like the tan one in the middle of this pic.

Unimpressed with Remingtons myself, however they are cheaper, typically more readily available and seemingly easier to screw with (gunmakers point of view)and many more of used/raw actions floating around cheaper.
but I dearly love the Sako over anything else.
I haven't handled an 85 side by side with the 75, what is changed?
I am still clueless why they dropped the 591/691...why screw with perfection?
Oh, get the 243, short breech it, make a 6BR! My 591 6BR stammered out a sub 1/2" 200 yard group this summer.
Claude my 75 is a 6 BR (top blurry picture) factory contour barrel. PPC magazine so it feeds properly.

Think you could make me a pretty stock for it?

ML
so would you build off a 75 or 85 if given the choice?

Whats the recoil lug like on a 75?

I would be putting it in a McM of some sort with an aftermarket barrel...
You can put an oversized recoil lug (Rem style) on the Sako 75 actions - not sure of the Sako 85's??

I think this type of lug is a little more beefier/stronger than the factory lugs on the Sako 75's.

I wish you could get Sako 75 actions at a decent price - I build all my rifles off of this action!!
what kind of mounts/rings? DO you prefer the near base or the sako dovetails? Did PAI drill the and "mount" the base on the dovetails?
PM coming your way Sako75

I used a Near 20 MOA base and Near rings. The base fits perfectly onto the dovetails and you need to drill/tap the receiver.
Love the 75 action. Here's my semi-custom (when it still had the Optilock rings):

It's got a factory contoured 1:10 twist Lilja barrel chambered in .300 Win Mag. The action is bedded into the factory stock. I'd like to get a McMillan some day for it, but it's not a high priority right now. Hill Country Rifles did the barrel work for me. I did the bedding.

Here's another picture with the Talley's that are on it now:

Sako75,

Just build it - the deer will come!!!
OCC, a 7/08 spits 140s at 2950 w/Varget and 4064, how much more do you want? Doubt you'd see much difference in the field at normal ranges. Maybe it's sentimental. You can load 130 Barnes in your 308 around 3,000 mv that I doubt any animal hit under 400 yds or so would no the difference.....

You can always turn that knob wherever you need, and hit it....

Nope, you just HATE that rifle, tell you what, I'll give you 5 C-notes for it as it is in the pic. PM where I can send the funds.
Scratching my head??? I love my rifle! I've just wanted a .284 for a long time. No plans on altering the one I have though.
