I just picked up a Winchester Classic Stainless BOSS in .308 Winchester. The stock is the standard classic sysntetic stock but the barrel has the featherweight step down in the chamber area.

What's the story on these rifles? Date of manufacture? General comments?

Also, does anyone have a rough range of manufacture dates on the Classic M70s? IE G29,000 is 19xx, G290,000 is 19xx..

Thanks.
I know they made the Featherwieght Stainless BOSS in 95 or 96, and then discontinued them. Don't think they were made before or after that.
And if you don't like the BOSS, you can have it cut off and the barrel recrowned..
That's the plan. Once the rifle arrives, it's going to the smith for a barrel trim and recrown. I'm hoping I have enough barrel behind all the BOSS markings to finish at about 20".

After that, she'll get a McMillan and a Leupold 1.75-6x42 VXIII and it should make a great little deer rifle.
The boss has two sleeves, One ported and the other plain.
If you want the extra lenght and don't mind the agly thing on the end.
