A while back I asked a question about cerakote and a side note was made that "Cerakote could even be applied to wood." I'd like to hear an expansion on that comment/thought and would like to know if Cerakote on wood would completely seal the stock?

Cerakote can be used on wood stocks and would do a good job of sealing the stock.

With that being said, if you were going to have a wood stock painted a single solid color in cerakote, the stock would have to be prepped very good to come out looking nice. Cerakote goes on very thin and will show pin holes, rough sanding marks and other imperfections rather easily.

If you are going to add spider webbing of a different color over the base color you can get away with a lot more. The webbing tends to hide imperfections that you would see otherwise. Hope this helps...

Grain filler followed by sanding sealer and sanding?

As stated by others, it seals the wood.

Primer is not a bad idea. Regardless, I would still sand down with 320 to give some tooth for the cerakote to adhere to.

Here is my tikka t3 lite synthetic stock that I painted a few weeks ago before deer hunting. For prep I masked off everything that I didn't want painted (bedding, etc.) then I put her in the sandblaster and lightly blasted the stock. All the paint is cerakote.
