Looking to hear about what stock you have, if anyone has their rifle weight in a short action, round sporter bbl.

Any comments appreciated, thanks.
I purchased a Sako 75 Hunter for my 75 SM action rifle. The rifle as it left the factory was a Grey Wolf and it weighed 8lbs. The McMillan stock brought it's weight down to 7lbs 4 ounce which was nice and the gun felt much more lively.
That's what I was looking for, thanks much for the info. The GW stocks are heavy being a laminate. I wonder how much it might lighten up if 'bored out' as some do to the butt section.

Thanks for the info.
I have the newest version of the 85 Finnlight with DuraTouch synthetic stock. The gun weighs 7.2 pounds with Swarovski 3-10x42 mounted, Talley mounts & loaded magazine.

I have considered an Edge but can't justify the price as long as the factory stock is working good for me and I really like it. I didn't think I would. THe stock weighs 29 ounces.

That was my first thought but then I was concerned about it being unbalanced weight forward . I am sure as beefy as that stock is that you could save some oz's. I doubt it would be as light as the Mcmillan unless you creatively carved some wood away on the foreend and buttstock to balance things out. IMHO it would not feel as nice. You should try the Mcmillan , you will throw the GW stock in the garbage grin ................Only Kidding

Yea, I hear the 85's are a bit lighter and the edge might save 4 ounces if that in that type of application. 543 dollars is a bit expensive for 4 ounces.

Wow that finnlight is light!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice rifle
My 75 finnlight with an EDGE is 7lbs even, with optilocks and a VXIII 2.5-8. Recently picked up an 85 in .260 and have an EDGE coming for it as well...
Sounds like a Finnlight and a McM is a nice combo all scoped up. Son's 75 round sporter needs a diet, though it shoots great and feels great w/GW stock.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate all.

My 85 SA Finnlight rests in a Sako Classic Edge. Don't know the weight, but it's still not light like the Montanas. Had McMillan glass and pillar bed mine. Hell of a shooter!!
OCC, Montana's are as light as I could ever want, perhaps too light but I have not handled one scoped.

Your SA that 308 that had the Leupy M1 I bought?

Blargon, is your 85 the Finnlight also?
Cliff you know they are no lw rifles. But come on it's a sako what more could you want?

A proud sako 75 whore

Here's my custom .300 Win Mag built on a Sako 75 action & a McMillan Sako 75 stock.

Just looking out for my 12 yr old.....not wanting a fly weight rifle, just lighter ML that's all smile Agree w/you they really do shoot well, never had a bad one.

I have an edge on my Hunter in 6 BR, with straight taper barrel and Leupold: 4.5-14 x 40mm LR that weighs 9 lbs 6oz a#4 fluted lilja on 257AI with classic Sako McSwirly that weight 9 lbs even

I think the Finnlight with an Edge would be an idea package.

Yes it is a NEAR rail, with Rechnagel rings 30mm for the S & B Zenith. I have a set of NEAR rings and Rail on a Tikka 595 in .260.... Which is also a great set up.

Nice set up, who fluted bolt?
Thanks... and yes I am pleased with the way the rehab turned out. The bolt was fluted by a company over here in UK, Custom Precision Rifles in Nottingham, the rebuild was done by Neil McKillop, a man who has gained a well deserved reputation for fine quality rifles.

The difficulty over here is nearly always the sourcing of custom parts, barrels, triggers, actions, etc. but that is being resolved by efforts to produce them in UK/Europe since the export restrictions came into force.

Hence I have LW barrels on this Sako , a Tikka 595 in .260, a Lawton 7000 in 6.5x55 and a Tikka 695 which is being built at present in 275 Rigby ( 7x57 Mauser). LW are reasonably priced over here, good delivery times : 4 - 6 weeks and IMHO good quality.

A Sako in my mind has never been a bad platform regardless of the popularity of the 700. Personally I'd rather a Sako any day, but that's just MY preference. Never had a bad Sako........

I have been intrigued w/ L-W bbls in the past and 'aim' to try one in the future. They do have mixed reviews here in the US from limited reports I have read. Some say they do just great, others less than great.

Like to know more about how your 7/08 shoots. Thanks for pics.
I couldnt seem to get a meaningful load of RL19 into the Norma 7-08 cases without going to compressed loads , which I am not keen on doing. So made up some from the Nosler book 5, using H414, from 44 - 46.5 Gns under 140 Accubond, with Fed GM210 primers.

All loads grouped under 1" , velocity from 2630 up to 2857 fps. The best load was the last one at just under .4" group at 100 metres. All bullets were seated .025" off the lands as a guesstimate for powder trial stage of load development,

The next attempt was with RL15, again at .025 off the lands, This gave much better results, with the following:
RL15 40.5 or 41.0 Gns Fed GM210M primers, Norma brass. Nosler 140Gn BT.

I tried the loads in the Nosler 5 book for this powder, got the best results as above at 2750 fps out of a 22" barrel at 25 thou off the lands. I have now tried it at 10, 20, 30, 40 thou off the lands and best results , under .3 MOA is the 30 thou stand off. This shoots to the same point of aim and equivalent grouping with 140 Gn NBT or 140 Gn Accubonds. So I shall stick with BT for deer, and have some Accubonds loaded in case 'Pigs" appear on the menu.

The RL 15 load is gentler than H414 IMO, with no signs of pressure in my rifle, very sweet to shoot ! Oh... and its a SAMMI standard chamber, no special throating.

Usual reminder to work up loads in your particular rifle , as they all differ.

Best

Peter
Peter, can't beat that for a sporting rifle. NICE shooting sir.

The AB is MY GO TO bullet in 130gr in my 260 and 6.5x55 at the moment. The 140 would be mine in the AB if I still owned 7/08s, or get another.

I worked w/my 7/08s in years past, top speed + accuracy w/100-140s was w/IMR4064 followed by Varget so they were my go to powders, never tried RL series, but hear they do fine. I too prefer chambers close to Saami spec, w/o neck turning. Partial sized cases have given me excellent accuracy.

Thanks for the info/post and GOOD HUNTING.

Do you recall the color mix in this McMillan?

From a rapidly fading brain.... it was 33/33/33 black/mid grey/olive.
Send the pic to McMillan or Rick Bin and ask the question maybe?
