Oh, this is so gonna rock...

Yours? Or, hers?

How about the 65 GK? Although you already have a barrel's worth (or two grin) in the pic already.

Dang....

You reckon you'll ever manage to keep one of those 70 grainers in a critter?

Only if he flings it with a wrist rocket.

Howaguard or Rem700?
Posted By: safariman Re: And So it Begins - 04/19/11
I'm guessing a Mossberg 4x4... smile

Hmmmm. I gotta say I'm surprised to see a pile o' 69gr SMKs rather than 75gr A-maxes. Not like you. I traded Paul W. for 500 69 SMKs a little while back when my 1-9 wouldn't run the 75 A-maxes, but loved the 69s.

Normally, this would make me think you've a 1-9 twist, only the 70 TSXs usually require a 1-8". I run them in my AR for deer/yotes.

You have me a bit puzzled. Is the plan to run the 70s fast enough to stabilize in a 1-9"? Did you take a sudden liking to 69 SMKs or get a deal on some? Or just had them around? Where the hell are the 75 A-maxes. Heck, I dunno........grins

Anyway, I shoot a lot of the 69s and the 70s. Never shot a 63 in my life.

Awaiting details.........

That 63 grain pill is one freakingly accurate bullet...

Pretty good all arounder but the Swift AI will definitely test the integrity of it...
Posted By: Steelhead Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
For those that have asked, I have a coffee can full of 75gr Amax and one full of 65gr Sierra GK. I only ordered up some bullets that I didn't have on hand.

I'm thinking a moose might catch one of those 70's....

Looking forward to this rig coming together. I have 22/250AI dies on hand and everything says go that route, but I've always wanted to play with the Swift so WTF.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
Oh, and it will be a 1-8" twist. Curious on how the 75gr Swifts will play out or a 53gr TSX at 4100....
Posted By: eddief Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
Which BSA are you going to top it with?
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
Sweet .22, of course....
Posted By: Hutch Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
You single guys suck!
Posted By: HawkI Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
220 Roy Rocket, huh?

1-8 twist....90gr Boogers run well and give RL-17 a shake.

The 75's hit 3,500, 80's 3,400 and the 70 TSX ran 3,600 from a 24" tube.

The 28 inch tube needs clocked, but eats the same loads with one-hole, religious fervor....

I can honestly say I'm anxious about this build. Almost sad... grin

I gotta agree with you Greg the 63 is awesome, its the single most accurate bullet I have ever used period and I've used alot of different bullets. If they kill as good as Dober says I will buy a truck load or two...

The sad part is that your barrel is toast with only the bullets pictured.

My favorite .224 bullet. Hell on critters.
Posted By: GregW Re: And So it Begins - 04/20/11
Hawk,

I'm going to give RL-17 a go in a .222-50 Ackley pretty soon. Seems like a good fit with the heavies...

Glad you mentioned that...

Theyve' run into some decent pigs here, and some larger deer. Worst case I have an example of is a live weight 218 pound buck that his neck stopped the 63. But dead. Had same results at appx same size with with a 300 wtby and 180 partitions though..

I used to run the 63s in my 22-250 too before I dumped it off. Head shots out to almost 300 yards and hogs to around 225 to 250ish pounds... heads were no match...

Ain't gonna be a TSX, but aint a bad choice. Accurate too. Not as much as true match bullets IMHO, but a heck of a good bullet all around.

Didn't figure it made you flinch. Should be a cool stick.

If you had a 53 grain TSX @ 4100 available in 1954 the .25/06, 6MM, .243,
.240 Weatherby and many others never would have seen the light of day.
YMMV

Veddy cool, Scott.

What do you all 'spose the difference between this and a .224 TTH might be capacity-wise? I've been contemplating one of the two...

I'll be very interested to hear how this thing turns out.
Posted By: War_Eagle Re: And So it Begins - 05/26/11
Come on Scott...a month, no update? WTH? grin

What are the rest of the details for the build?

Maybe............

One option is to load to a sane level occasionally and enjoy not having to trim the AI case.
Posted By: Jayph Re: And So it Begins - 05/26/11
I have found that RL-22 gave the best accuracy with the 75gr a-max and that H4831SC gave the best velocity and the best season to season velocity spread so I could run one load and still great accuracy. I have found that the .220 AI is one easy round to load for and seems to be accurate with every powder I tried with the 75gr A-max. Never tried anything lighter since it shot those scarry accurate.

Enjoy its a fun cartridge. Let us know how those TSX do even thought Iam not able to hunt with anything under .243 dia I have always wondered how well it would work.
