I am wanting to a custom build and want to use a Mauser action. Anyone know what the best ones to buy and where I might buy

Are you looking for a commercial Mauser, military to convert, standard or magnum boltface? May seem like a lot of questions, but answering a few may find you a deal right here on the 'fire.

M24/30 Venezuelan, FN Belgium
M1909 Argentine, DWM
M1908 Brazilian, DWM
M24 Mexican, FN Belgium
VZ-24, Brno Czechoslovakia
G33-40, Brno Czechoslovakia

And there are others.

Check the auction sites and the classifieds here and on other sites. Post a "WTB Mauser action" in the classifieds. I lieu of an action you may find a complete rifle and use it as a donor.

Karnis is right on, but depending upon your answers jere is one place to consider:

In my experience and opinion one is far better off, financially, starting with a commercial Mauser such as a Husqvarna, Santa Barbara, CZ or others. Even if you have to buy a whole rifle for $400-600.00 and discard or sell the barrel and stock it is more likely to turn out well for less UNLESS you have a lot of money and time and can afford one of the true gunsmith Mauser artists. Semi sporterized military actions usually leave much to be desired in my limited expeience. There are more gun butchers than gun smiths out there.

If you contact CDNN Investments (look up their webb site), they had brand new Mauser actions for sale in the catelog I had, for $400 or less, and I believe it said they were flat tops, though not sure that's important these days, as everyone make bases that will fit these actions. I belive CDNN is at www.cdnninvestments.com, but if you put CDNN gun sales, or some such in the search engine, it will bring it up.. They have some real good prices on things, and they had a Rem model 798 rifle in the catelog for like $400 maybe a bit more, but would be a BRAND new mauser action, made for Remington.

Right on.

Unless you have some serious dough to really do a military one right, I'd start w/ one of these. Actually, even if I did have money to burn I'd start w/ one of these...

Ghost no Mauser actions that I can see. powdr
I usually pick them up in pawn shops. I have a few DWM 1908 Brazilians, An all # matching 1909 Argentine, a mexican small ring 98, and a steyr built 1940 660 that's super nice. I don't think I've paid more than $200 for any of them. I live pretty close to Dean Zollinger and have thought about turning him loose on one of them but I keep putting my money into custom 700's.

Actually the small ring mexican is getting drilled and taped and having the magazine bump removed and a 7x57 barrel installed. It's not going to be anything fancy just making it usable until I get the itch for something nice.

Mauser actions are made and sold in Europe, but they are not cheap. Check Reimer Johannsen (http://www.hallowellco.com/reimer_johannsen_magnum_mauser.htm for example).

You need to call CDNN as they no longer list the guns, etc. on their webb site, if you aren't a dealer..

If any interest, I also have an FN Mauser action, made in Belgium, a commercial type, not military, to sell. It's actually a barrelled action (270). Need $300 plus shipping. CDNN wants $399 for their actions alone. if any interest send me a note at [email protected]..
A lot will be dependent on what you're willing to spend. There are some terrific modern Mauser actions out there but be prepared to pay. Granite Mountain and Satterlee are a couple of domestic manufacturers. In addition to Reimar Johannsen, Hartmann & Weiss and Recknagel are some other German makers.
