Its currenty chambered in a 30-06 and want to do a custom 6.5-284 on it. Who do y'all recommend to tackle this project. Not just anybody will work on a Tikka action, any suggestions on gunsmiths would be appreciated.

Interesting. I have a couple of 595 lefties.

Have you thought about using the unique (goofy?) Tikka recoil lug, or are you thinking about maybe a conventional washer-type lug like a Remington or Savage?

I wonder if anybody has any relevant experience and informed opinion about this.

I'll stick with the Tikka recoil lug, btw this rifle is a tack driver. I'm just burning up on a new build and was wanting something different. Got two 30-06s besides the Tikka and thought a 6.5-284 would be nice on this action. A 6.5-284 Tikka sitting in a Mcmillan swirly stock would be sweet.

Did you notice the action in this build?

Hi There,

I did a similar project last year, based on the M695 action, which changed it from a 25-06 into 275 Rigby. Traditional calibre but unconventional way to go about it.

Essentially a rebarrel with Lothar Walter 22" 1:9 twist CM barrel. Squared off the bolt lugs, fluted bolt and large bolt knob. Trigger honed to SAFE 2 lbs pull. Bedded into a McM Sako Hunter stock in McWoody 3 colour. Dark Brown, Light Brown, Black 33/33/33 mix.

Topped off now with a Near Alphamount and S & B 3 -12x50; and then blued the complete action/Barrel assembly.

The original recoil lug recesses into a machined s/s socket set into the bedding, works fine, rock solid way to go.

I am shooting either NBT 140 or N Accubonds 140, over H414, Fed GM210M primers in RWS brass. It gives 2805 fps, and under .5 MOA for 5 shots.

Best of luck with your Project.
