First off, anyone that's thinking about a new action. Over at snipers hide, they're doing another Stiller group buy. I should stay away, but I've been contemplating my first custom and tempted to jump in.

Thinking a 6.5 of some sorts, probably a 6.5x284 or a 6.5-06?
Would love to get into a 338 of some sorts, but want something that's a little easier on the wallet to feed.

Better of with the Tac 30 or just go with the 300, or Predator? Order their 20 rail, or pick that up later on with something else?

How would someone with a lot more experience than myself go, or different all together?



If/when this gets put together it'll be mainly used for busting rocks, etc.

If heavy, the rail is nice. If a lightweight, then I would go with a Predator action as the base screw holes are the standard remmy base size (6-48). The Tac actions have 8-40 screws.

The predator actions are already cut for a Wyatt box in case you want to run longer coal rounds.

If you are just gonna bust rocks, why not go with a short action of some type?

Considering something in the 10-12 lb range, 26" at least

So, what do you have to do to get the group buy? Do you have to buy it thru snipershide?

Can't really give you any suggestions. I have a TAC 30 built by Mickey Coleman into a ltwt 22-250 with 1-8" twist. I love the action. Did not love the rail and Talley hooked me up with some Ltwt's that are the cat's azz. Mine's sitting in a Hunters Edge and I'm loving everything about it.

That being said, they are more suited to heavier builds.

Sign up on Snipers Hide I believe is all you have to do? Saves about 200.00 or a little more on the action, believe they're 760.00 with shipping through this deal.

Need to get at least 50 people in on it. 200.00 down and the rest due when your action is complete.


I'm a little tight on money this year, but this is awfully tempting.

Go with a predator SA and run a 260, or 6.5 creedmoor or a tac 30 and run a 6.5x47 since it doesn't need the extra length of the wyatts.

My SA mag face predator from last years group buy is finally at the smith's having a brux #4 interupted fluted 10 twist 300 wsm barrel put on. I almost got a stiller for my 6.5x47 but I had a SS rem SA handy and the smith is trueing it up for a very reasonable price. Same smith is doing both of them now and I'm hoping to have them soon.

I'm with Burleyboy on the recommendation of doing a Creedmoor or Lapua in 6.5 mm and using the Predator SA

If you are doing the 6.5-06 or 6.5x284 then you will need the 300 action.

I would suggest the Predator because the side bolt release is higher on the action and doesn't require extra inletting to fit into a Remington 700 stock

You boys are tempting, mighty tempting! (If this was a Defiance I would probably have three ordered already!)

I bought a Tac 30 from the group buy a couple years back. I ended up with a accurate as hell rifle (my first Brux tube at the time- not my last) but sold the gun not long later. The action has so little clearance that the bolt would bind if I breathed wrong during cycling. I think they're great for a bench gun, but unsuitable for the field. I'm back to tried Remmys for dirty work.

I have handled 3 of the predators and all portrayed the sticky,or binding bolt issues you describe, and I'm not sure it's because of tight tolerances, as Stiller is running as much as.006 bolt to raceway clearance, Bat runs .002-.0025 clearance on their bolts and I've never heard anyone say their bolts have binding issues maybe Cummins Cowboy will chime in, My Borden Timberline is smooth as glass and it runs clearances that are close to a Bat, not sure why they feel catchy!

I wonder if your sticky bolt issue was before they started coating the bolts?

No these bolts were coated..Borden, Bat and Defiance aren't coated, Borden's don't even use the "anti bind" rail slot used on REM 700's and others and is why his clearances might need to be snugger so the bolt lug doesn't hit on the port opening when going into battery, is the coating to protect the bolt from corrosion or to slick things up?
