Looking to build a bolt action 6.8 rifle. Probably going to start with a Remington 700 SA in 223 and have the bolt face opened up. The ifle will be set up as follows:

Remington 700 SA
20", 1 in 11" Twist, SPC-II Chamber Sporter Contour Barrel
McMillan Compact Stock
Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32 Scope
Talley LW Low Mounts

What I am stuck on is what barrel maker to use as well as what to do for the magazine box and follower. I also would need a good gunsmith to do the work and hopefully cerakote the barreled action. Any suggestions on thses questions?
Try the 6.8 Forums. Have all kinds of info there.
For a gunsmith, try Nathan Chesney at Hillbilly customs. Great guy, GREAT work, and he deals with PITA customers like me really well! His number is 1-802-487-9150
After some testing with a Remingotn 700 in .223 I have here it looks like the factory 223 bax and follower will work fine for the 6.8. Now I just need to find someone to make me a factory sporter contour 1 in 11" twist .277 barrel.
I want to build the same gun, but why not go with a Seven action? If you are going short and light go all the way.
Remington made a 6.8 SPC 700 in the LTR (light tactical rifle) format. I know because I have one for sale. Unfortunately it's a heavy barrel profile.
Remington also made a lightweight 6.8 offering with 22" fluted tapered barrel, same profile as the LVSF. This One....

I'm interested in building a 6.8 bolt myself. What are you doing about the extractor? Are you going to open the bolt face and machine it for a Remington extractor or use a Sako one. Looks like your specs are pretty much exactly what I want.
