-McMillan Compact Standard fill.
-700 ADL action.
-Talley LW's and Loopie 6X42.
Was thinking I could get away with a #1 due to the pin hole. Or will that make it balance strange?
Thanks in advance,
Travis
My wife has a 250AI with a # 1 rock 22". It's in a standard fill mountain rifle stock. Balance is great with 6x42.
More important question... what mix McSwirley are you putting on it?

I bought it from clark98nut and it is painted black, unfortunately...
Although I have been known to Krylon after too many beers.

#1.
What do you think about trying to dupe the gay green lantern Jeff-ho Eugene Ducks rifle you already have?
That would be sweet to try after a 12'er.
I havent ran a .17 but if I was going to build one it would be with a lilja #1. Which may happen if I keep getting this itch for a 17-204.

There can be only one... Like
Highlander, but different.

Go .17 Rem!

Are the balls dragging this morning?
Length?
Either likely would work well ,IMO, but I like a little weight in the barrel.
I'd go #2 @ 23".
Are the balls dragging this morning?
I let Chicago have a go at everything, and he failed miserably. You should have seen him this morning. Looked like he just lost the NBA finals.
I explained to him not everybody can be me. I thought that was nice of me.

My bad. It will finish @ 22".

What's the intended purpose of the 17?
Big game scope, lightweight rifle, 17 cal?
I don't mean anything by the question, just wondered if it is destined for stalking prarie dogs, or just a lightweight "training" rifle for the range.
No matter which barrel, it will be a sweet shooter. I can't comment on the balance, so I won't.

He didn't stand a chance. He just didn't know it. Them locals have already been ravished.
Who can measure up to Travvy? It was almost a pre mediated c@ckblock.
That's why I don't troll within a 35 mile radius of flaveville.

Calling rifle primarily. But it will see lots of gopher killing and all around summer use.

He had way too much elevation spun on his sights. This has been corrected and he knows now, to aim low. We'll see how he does.
Travis
As expected you have him on the right track.
I only hope he grasps the magnitude of the life gift he has been given.
P.S. care centers are an option, if Chicago is to hideous for the Lions Club bleeders.
The only downside is you have to BYOB.

He has known me since I was four. He knew what he was getting himself into. When I was six his uncles (all Chicago cops and firemen) would call me the "The Little Muff Diver". Smart fellas.
Travis
Nice. That's good stuff.
P.S. tell the new LMD, he swings a mean shillelagh in the pic.
I will and thank you.
And GFY.
Travis
Mnt rifle stock and Mnt rifle contour.
Might look something like this when it's completed.
Nice rifle SS. If I build a chunk this winter, I'm stealing your orange/black for an A-5.
Travis
Travis,
Thanks, everyone likes Mnt org/blk .223ai. That came out perfect.
This is my .17 Rem. Has a Mnt rifle stock and PN light weight contour barrel.
#2 at 22 is about where I'd want to be - very good choice for the mini-bore
Alot of metal left in a tube drilled .17 cal
I'm thinking the eeny-meany method might be in order here...
Travis
deflave what twist are you going to go with?
I was gonna go 1-9". Unless there is something out there I don't know about.
Travis
Thats what I will go with if I end up building. I would like to try those 30 grain kindler golds
Bergers have always been good to me, but I may give those a try when it's done. Good BC on those things!
This glass will have dots as well. Anxious to see how those work out with the .17.
Travis
Have you ever shot the Varmageddon bullets? Just wondered, haven't heard much about their accuracy.
for gophers id go .17FB over the .17 Rem. I do have a 17-204 and its but too much capacity for the bullet weight.
Ohh yeah I'm a 17 & 20 caliber whore
ML
.17 Rem all the way...
I do not think I can live without a .17 Rem.
Travis

No sir. I am pretty much a 25gr Berger slut at this point.
But I did stockpile some Z-Maxes recently. We'll see if the new tube likes them...
Travis
I went with a 24 inch Lilja #2 SS 9 twist on Rem model 7 for my last .17 Rem build.
joelkdouglas,
I've shot the Varmaggedons some from both the .17 Fireball and Remington. Accuracy is VERY good, at least as good as Ballistic Tips or V-Maxes.
I tried both the plastic-tips and the hollow-points on prairie dogs a couple weeks ago. The hollow-points expand OK, though more so from the .17 Remington, but the tipped bullets do a LOT more lifting. No surprise there, as that's been my experience with HP's versus tipped varmint bullets in general.
Unless there is something out there I don't know about.
Travis
Careful there.............
I think you should try a Palma contour, finished at 30" with a 1-16 twist. Don't want to overspin them BB sized bullets. Plenty of velocity, never overheat the barrel and sufficiently muzzle heavy to ensure proper pole vaulting technique.
I'm thrilled I could be of friendly service.
Oops, almost forgot. Cerakote it FDE with a dark brown bolt. When you open the bolt at the bench, it will look like a you know what, hanging from you know where.
Oh and GFY.
Happy Father's Day!
I'm too lazy to carry that thing around. However, the Cerakote idea is a good one fo' shizz'...
May the Lord bless you this Father's Day and GFY.
Travis
A stainless Remington Model 7 that started life as a .223
Wise man.

This is like asking "cow girl or reverse cow girl". Either will get it done with great panache. The question is
What view do you prefer?
Me?
#2 ,unless PacNor is in your future, their #1 looks good.
Happy Fathers Day.
Kind of feel bad replying to Mooner's post because I'm sure a few guys probably never lost their v-card until like college or something, but I've got to ask... which view DO you prefer?
"cow girl or reverse cow girl".
but I've got to ask... which view DO you prefer?
Yes.

My sentiments exactly. Glad we're on the same page
I used the Lilja SS #3 1&9 when i built my 17 Remington on a LH 700 BDL action. . I stocked it in a HS Precision and use a Timney Trigger. This rifle shoots bug holes all day long. Darrel Holland did the work. Rel 15 and the Berger 25 gr Match HP with Rem 7.5 Match primer is my go to load.
I've always liked that rifle bea. Very nice.
Travis
Do you have a really short, stiff neck?
No i had the stock cut to 13 inch length of pull and set my scope back for hunting yotes in the Winter when calling and wearing a heavy thick coat and insulated underwear while sitting down. I don't like to crawl the stock and the rifle fits me perfect for this especially when shooting down hill off the shooting sticks. . Last time i had a stiff neck i got a Viagra stuck in my throat.
I follow you, but I couldn't help but notice that Conquest would be in my eye socket.
My 3-9x40 Conquest has half the adjustment housing over the front action ring.
I have rifles setup for both Winter and Summer the 17 happens to be for Winter calling. This is why my primary calling rifles are AR-15's i can adjust the stock for any situation when calling .
Last time i had a stiff neck i had a Viagra stuck in my throat.
Now THAT'S funny!
Travis,
I'm probably late for the party, but I had a 17 Rem. built on a #1 Lilja using Kimber Montana parts. Its finished out at 22" and I consider its balance perfect. The Lilja contour matches my Kimber Montana 204 almost perfectly.
If it helps, here's a picture of both rifles. Oh, and they weigh within .2 of an oz. of each other.
The 204
The 17Rem.
I've used a lot of Berger 25's in the past, but my preferred 17 bullet now is the Nagel T-000.
Not the greatest bench shooting but light rifles are hard to shoot from a bench as you well know.
I've had my day/days with the 17 Rem. Think I started my time with it about Christmas of 1980. Went thru the factory tube, and then went Shilen. I shot some lopes/deer/yotes and lots of furry lil denizens with it....
Slam dunk, I'd go a #2 Brux cut to 21" and I'd go with Edge fill. And, just to muddy the crick I'd go with a 3-9 w/dotz not a 6. As much as I like a 6 for big game it's just not enough juice for rodents under certain circumstances so I'd go more.
Believe it or not guy a 3-9 Burris with BP is what would get a lot of attention from me.
Rock the house bubba and get that thing built for lope season. And the dogs will hate you for building it as well!
Dober
K22,
That is a nice rig you built. The. 17 Rem is a far prettier rifle FYI, you should trip the. 204.
Thanks for the info.
Travis
Thanks Dobe!
If I was starting from scratch, I would definitely go with Edge fill, but this is getting built with what I currently have on hand.
What's a good lope pill? Grin...
Travis
I had/have some old Barnes 25 grain soft points. They worked pretty darn well. Other than that I'd think that the 30 Berger would fit the bill just fine.
Dober
FWIW: Charles Daly action, 20" pac-nor #2 1-10, B&C stock, 3-pos safety, Lupy 1.75-6
