Hello Gents:

Anyone building or have built a 280AI on a standard 98 action?

Have a g33/40 waiting for one in 2013. Not interested in fancy wood or a showpiece--will be all hunting gun...have no problem spending a dime or two on function & accuracy...

Got pics, who was your smith if you used one, any issues? Would appreciate any info (except caliber arguments) and PM me if you want, please.

Not my first dance...do have a custom or two on small rings including a very satisfying Westrom/Gentry, which nothing else has quite measured up to...

Action has been ground, D&T, & has a Wisner or Gentry safety on it already. Thinking 7.5# scoped w/4 rounds would be about right and a Brown would facilitate that.

Got a 7mag to get ready this AM--beautiful sunny here today for a change...and that is gonna change real soon, too...:)

Thanks,
tom
Never had a 280AI. I am more of a standard cartridge type of guy. Sounds like a great project and should be a hunting, shooting mofo. It would be nice if you kept us updated on your progress. I'd surely like to the pictures when it's done. Have I said before that I like Mausers? grin grin
you must be well informed...:)

am afraid I may not have a lot of company on this one...
I have a standard 280 on a not so vintage small ring "Mauser" that goes 7 1/2# all in. Roger Green built it.

Yeah Ed, that one should be the poster child for a lightweight wood-stocked g33. O'Connor would buy it from you...:)

What are your barrel and bottom metal specs?

Buttplate?

Appreciate it

I had an old Parker Hale Mauser re-barreled to .280AI the feed ramp was not altered horribly rough feeding. If you are set on the AI make sure the feeding is well sorted out. GRF
will do...

had a 7x57AI that I let get away, which fed the rounds very smoothly--had a beautiful English stock, too

regret that one...
