I just picked up a Remington 600 in 308 for my son. I have ordered a new alum rib and trigger guard for it to replace the existing plastic. I also picked up a Williams rear peep sight. However I have run into a wall looking for a replacement front sight.
Does anyone know of a replacement front sight? I would like to get rid of the harpoon looking front sight.
Thanks

How big is your son? Just wondering if the recoil from an iron sighted 600 in 308 is going to be stout.

I'd use reduced loads if he is young, and put on a Leupy 2.5, 3x, or 4x fixed Leupold if me.

Can't help you on the sight, but a smaller scope will retain the carbine's handling qualities and be very user friendly. Just a thought. Brownells would be who I'd call to ask if you are set on irons.

He's 15 and a pretty good size kid. He has been shooting a T/C Encore in 7mm-08 but he has been wanting a bolt gun. I got a excellant deal on the 600.
I am going to set it up as a Scout type rifle. I have the rear peep and it will use the the front sight fine, but I wanted a better look.
I also picked up a older Redfield scout mount that attaches to the front scope mount holes on the receiver and to the rear sight holes on the vent rib.
I think it will make for a nice bolt gun.

Gotcha, good luck, recoil can be handled better than the blast, I remember a fella at the range w/one, I'd use plugs and muffs.

Enjoy - those typically shoot very well.

Couple 600's with a different look:

DMc those are some nice looking rigs. I am going to run the factory vent barrel for now and see how well he likes it. If it won't group well, I will probally rebarrel it at a latter date.

Do you want an original front sight or an aftermarket one?
