Is the 7-08 made from 308 brass with no other changes? Just run 308 through a full length die?
It will end up a bit short, but otherwise yes.
Resized scores of 308 to 7-08. It actually ends up a tad long.

Been my experience as well.
Really? I will have to measure the length of some of mine again. My recollection is that the resized brass was always longer than factory. Will get back to you guys after a bit.
Ted
Maybe we're not talking about the same thing? What I've seen is that necked down 308 brass ends up being shorter than SAAMI min. length for the 7mm-08. I'm not sure if it ends up being longer than it was before necking down as I've never measured that.
Great, thanks guys I thought it would work fine, I'll ck lengths
I neck down 308 brass, for both the 7/08 and the 260 Rem, and never had any performance issues or problems.
That's all I use and I've never had a problem. I usually resize, check it, shoot it, trim it. There's a load it in there too...
is 7-08 brass that scarce?
is 7-08 brass that scarce?
Right now, just about all new brass is.........
all my 7-08 brass says "308" on the headstamp.
all my 7-08 brass says "308" on the headstamp.
Well at least with that WRONG headstamped brass - cartridge combo if they do get shot off in a 308 there will not prob be any damage to the shooter !
I have seen 7/08's shot in a 308...guy was having sight in errors, bullets were flying anywhere. No damage to gun, shooter, or bystanders. Headstamps were 308...had been necked down.
I guess that fellow's eyeball Mark One micrometer wasn't working too well?
same headspace gauge so yes. necks may get a tad thick depending on brass
