Feedback? I am looking to replace a trigger, is the Timney a better way?

Not sure if Timney is a better way, I've been wanting to give Niel Jones a try...around $70-80!

Cliff my Hammonds 243 has a nickel plated Timney. Can't say enough good things about the unit. Trigger shoe is wide though but I like it. For the price it's a exceptional value.

I haven't used a reworked Rem trigger, but I have used a Timney trigger in my Rem 700 for about 10 years. I don't have any negative to report on the Timney. It's crisp, very little overtravel, breaks cleanly at 2.5 lbs.

I prefer the Timney to a reworked old style Model 70 trigger that also breaks at 2.5 lbs. The Model 70 trigger has just a touch more movement, not as crisp. Both are nice triggers, I just prefer the Timney.

Heard nothing but good on the Timney's, a few folks say a Jewel is great for range work, but not needed in a hunting rifle and potential less reliable. Seems the Timney may have a better safety record as well for ADs.

Was confused re: Neil Jones above, he tunes the OEM, but does not mfg or sell a replacement.

I've used them in snowy ,freezing rain and temps down to below zero in Montana, and dry dusty and windy conditions in Nevada and Idaho...never an issue, so I don't buy into all the stories on the internet..YMMV

I've had both the Jewell and Timney. The Jewell was on a 280AI that Darrell Holland made me. Both are nice units. The Jewell does have a narrow trigger shoe as oppose to the Timney.

After having had both and if I were starting a new project I would use a Timney again. Save a few bucks and use the savings for another aspect of the build and lose nothing.

apparently your finger is telling your brain something far different than what I have experienced. I would take a Jewell 10 times out of 10 over a Timney.

In fact if I wanted to save a few bucks I would choose a Shilen over a Timney.

To each his own. Can't speak for the Shilen.

Hear pros and cons over all, used Jewell but not Shilen, had a Timney long ago on a '96 Swede, so hard to compare.

Some prefer Timney over Shilen as I believe they say the shoe is wider. None the less, it's probably like scopes, everyone likes something different due to their differences in eyes, or how they want their triggers to feel.

I've have on 700's...Jewell, Shilen, Timney and Rifle Basix.....and would rank them in that order...well, maybe the RB and the Timney would be a tie.

WOW 65BR you are all over the place, I thought you were wanting to compare 700 triggers. Jewell and Shilen dont make a trigger for a 96 Swede so in that category the Timney is the clear winner.

"so hard to compare" is a problem you created trying to compare apple's to horseradish. If you stick with apple's to apple's (Remington 700 style triggers) Jewell is the clear winner.

I shoot all three triggers. The difference is indicated in the price of purchase. The Timney is a great value but @ about 1/2 the cost of a Jewell but there is a reason. If you go below 2 lbs the Timney sometimes has difficulty on some Remington actions. Remington makes a great trigger but not like a custom after market unit. I have two Shilen's and they're good as well.

I have used a Jewel, Shilen, Timney, and smith tuned Remington's. The last two builds I have done I have used Jewels. The new 260 should be here this week and I had Dallas put a Jewel in it. I would say for me and my money a Jewel can't be beat. For the rest I would say Timney and Shilen are a tie and it just depends if you want a wide or narrow trigger shoe. Timneys are very good and their CS is second to none.

In the end it's a decision you have to make. If you buy the Timney or the Jewel and don't like it put it in the classifieds and it won't last 20 mins if you price it accordingly.

Boatanchor, why I asked, the only Timney I had in the past was in a Swede, and that seemed to be a different trigger all together given mauser action.

Stoney, I did get the 512 - works very well. Not sure on a hunting rifle accuracy will be much different at a normal setting of 1.5-3# between a Jewell, Shilen, and Timney - appreciate the feedback all.
