Splurged and bought the Nosler Patriot in 6.5x284.

I'm planning to neck down some new 284 brass the first go around.
In anticipation, I purchased 4 bags of the 140gr nosler BT from shooters pro shops.

The rifle should arrive this week, but I won't have a chance to shoot until late September.

What are your thoughts on the 6.5x284? I've got a wide variety of bullets, but the 1-9" twist could be the demise of the 140's. This will be my go-to rifle for cow elk, mule-deer, hogs, white tails.

You won't have any problem shooting 140 BT's accuratley out of it.

RS Magnum works great too.

It might struggle with the 140 Bergers and such but the BTs will be fine as Bob says.

Shooters pro shop did have loaded ammo for slightly more than brass alone.

My favorite powder for the 140s is Mag Pro.

Use a felt pen and see how necked down 284 brass fits in your 6.5 X 284. Had lots of issues with mine. Rebarreled it used a Lapua reamer.

kka is right, check the neck thickness with a loaded round. When you neck down, the brass has to go somewhere.

I have shot 140 Bergers, and 142 Sierras in a 260 with a 9 twist and not had issues.

Why not just buy 6.5-284 Brass? You have the choice of Federal, Lapua, or Nosler, and in my experience it is much easier to find than is 284 brass.

+1. Buy the Lapua brass and be done with it.
