So thinking of a 6.5 creedmoor in the future. Going to use a 700 action I picked up. As far as barrel thought about a brux? 8twist? Was thinking short and stalky but now thinking just a sporter type rifle what do you guys think for length and contour? Thanks Jerrad

I'd prefer a Bartlein 2b or #3 2nd choice would be Krieger, I don't think you can find a better barrel these days!

Length...24 " Contour...Sporter

I swear if theres a bigger rifle slut on the forum than me...its you. grin

I just bought a donor, and I don't have a plan in mind....

Definitely 1-8". Brux will do a S/S in a #3.....that's about as heavy as I would go. A Bartlein #3 is a very chunky sucker. It's equal to a Brux #4. No idea why....but I've been a Rock slut lately and they're getting harder to get.

In 6.5 CM, I wouldn't go any shorter than 22". And I personally wouldn't go any longer than 22"......LOL. But that's just me.

Or you could just do a Rem factory sporter contour.

McMillan Edge?? Or what do you have in mind for a stock??
Not sure on stock right yet. Either a Micky or manners. Not in a huge hurry!

Sad part is I picked up 4 700 actions this last month that were all GOOD DEALS. Gonna burn up some of these new take offs that are lying around! But have been wanting a creedmoor for awhile for some reason

I'm thinking hard on a Creedmoor as my next one. It will either have a Remington KS contour or a Win 70 Featherweight.

Tube will be 21", 1-8 and it will all sit in an Edge Compact.
I just screwed me first benchmark on, a fluted #4. I dunno what they do to treat it, but it's hard as woodpecker lips. It shoots very well and cleans super easy. I could recommend them based on my sample of 1.
Ok so say you went varmint contour. How short would you go?? Have a trade offer on a Micky with varmint contour so just a thought

It's a hell of a cartridge! I'm thinking on a heavy barrel for my next one!
I have JB's old one,still shooting 3/8 to 1/2" and it's a factory Ruger...

Whatever brand of barrel you go with make sure you get a 1-8....

Brux turned SS #2's in .243 and .264 for me, max length is about 23".

Well, since you asked I hope you don't mind if I dream out loud. How about a light varmint profile of some sort around 22", 8 twist as mentioned above, with a light weight stock like a Manners EH1???
Nick
Either an manners MCS-SL or an Mickey edge or swirley of some sort like compact. I really like the KS but no short

I sure like mine, agree on the 1 in 8 twist, crazy fun to shoot. At 61, I dont mind the fact that it's mild mannered, yet carries very very well.

I have one on a stiller tac 30 aw with a 24" bartlien 1:8 rem varmint contour. It shoots great but doesn't go hunting much due to its weight. My next one will be a 22" rem standard sporter. Although it may end up a 6.5x47L because it fits a rem box better.

I'm thinking along the same lines. I have a 700 action (currently a .243) that I think will become a 6.5 Creedmore. I've got two other actions that will prob become a 6.5 SAUM and a 7mm something so the intent of this rifle is to be light enough to still hunt with, but heavy enough to use as a LR trainer. So thinking med weight (#2/3 depending on brand) 23" 8 or 8.5 twist with a Manners LW stock (no cheek piece since I shoot left-handed).

And a few more bells and whistles such as PGT bottom metal and firing pin assembly, fluted bolt, Jewell trigger, and maybe a 3-5 SS or a Bushnell LR scope.

Have I been reading the CF too long?
I've done 6.5-06 on 8 twist, 260ai on 8 & 8.5 twist, all run under 2900 fps. Given the velocity advantage of these, I can say that 8 twist will work for you well, and 8.5 will likely do the same.
Well got a barrel coming from a member on here rock creek rem sporter 8twist prolly go 22".

Too chicken to go varmint contour. Maybe someday

If building sporter hunting rifle and handload - I'd do a 47 Lapua, 2B, 21"

My Light Palma is nice at 22.5, but wish I'd stuck to my original plan and done a 20-21. May trim it, my next will be 20.5 wink 2B, 3, 4, or light palma. The more carried, the lighter the contour, for stand hunting mostly, the 4 or LP will steady better.

8t Bartlein or Krieger, in that order. ON a budget, a Ruger Predator Creedmoor, chopped to 20-21, no more than 22. Trigger tune/swap and a McM handle.

I have wanted to try a light palma. Any pics....specs.....weight??

No pics at moment, vanilla tupperware 700 SS, Bartlein 22.5" 8t 5R, 6.5x47L, .80 muzzle, approx 7.5#, Timney, 8x40 FX-II Target AO

7.5 lbs sounds too light to have a .80" muzzle.

Rebarrelled a Sako L-579 with a Hart 8 twist 23" turned to the Sako contour. Still light, but a bit muzzle heavy. Points well, shoots better.

RDW, I realize and agree - its just a guess, no scale here, stock very light, it could go 8# but recall a LTR or Light Tactical goes 7.5#.

257, see range report in other post.
