Today I shot my 6.5/47, put 3 130 VLDs into 3/4 (19mm to be exact ) at 200 yds. Photobucket down so no pic yet.

40.5 H4350, unfired brass, Wolf Mag Primers little cratered, NO sticky bolt lift, etc. but MY rifle has not had the pin bushed so I may be in good pressure zone.

Might back down to 38 or so and work up. Alot of guys use 37.5 Varget. Using a 8x FX-II scope, and factory tupperware stock.

700 Light Palma Bartlein 5R, 22.5", no Chrony data today, Timney trigger. Thanks out to Brett for the bullets to test.

A 123g AMAX over 38.5 of Varget will turn a 10 pound woodchuck into 10 pounds of woodchuck mush.And shoot sub 2 inch groups at 500 yards, while doing so..

For longer work I like the 140g class bullet.
Have had excellent results with 139g Scenars and 140g Berger Long Range Boat Tails.Running VV550. The 4350 stuff always seems to run slow for me.By the time you get the FPS you want.The case is to full.

Id skip the Wolf Mag Primers in temps under 30 degrees.
I tried to do that last winter and got hang fires.
We run the small CCI mag primers for everything and never have problems.

I've been needing to pick up some 450s. Had these for a BR back during a primer hoarding shortage. Figured w a good stock, more glass and a little load refinement this thing might compare to my former 6BRs.

Yes - compressed load here. Threw them from a Hornady and used RCBS FL 2 die set. Lots or room for potential improvement. No wind this am helped.

This might be my new fave 6.5. No flies on others but I like what I've seen so far.

Its a rare 6.5x47 that will hang with the BR/Dasher in the raw accuracy department.
That being said you will appreciate the extra sauce when the variable speed fan gets turned at the 1000 yard line.
I think 4350 is to slow in the -47 case.
Other powders will give better velocity.
The 6.5x47 with its brass quality, and "just under" capacity make it a winner.
I have 3.
Two BR rifles a 17 pound and a 12 pound.
And I just converted a 243 WCF woodchuck gun to 6.5x47.
The 243 is a great round for people that dont shoot much.

I will have to try Varget. Prob had 4350 in the hopper making 243 loads for a T3

What would you recommend for 130s? Re: 6BR - never had another round nip its heels but agree the 47 has great intrinsic potential. Both shoot better than I often will. Had a BR in the past that shot in the 1s. Perfect conditions - inc a good day for me!

In lieu of a 6BR, an XC has been on my mind. Ever try one?

I did ring out the 130 Berger VLD in the -47.
I ran VV550,Varget and Rel15.
All will work well.
I kinda got away from the VLD style bullet.
VLD and to some extent the Berger Hybrids seem seating depth sensitive to me.Not saying they wont shoot.
Im running the 105g Berger hybrid right now in my Dasher.Never seen anything shoot like that at 500.But to really make it work you have to run them in the lands.I dont like having to do that.
850 rounds on the Dasher so far and its holding up well.
The Berger LRBT by contrast is pretty simple.
Set them up at somewhere from zero to .03 off and you can wear the barrel out and not mess with it. Kinda nice.
6.5x47s will still shoot at 2000 plus rounds.One with 2000 rounds might make a fine woodchuck gun.But to get through a match we find they foul to much.
So its about 2 seasons of compitation and we go get another chambered up.
I have never had a 6 XC.
I do shoot against a guy with one month in month out all summer long.He runs 105g Berger hybrids and H4350.its about the same.They last 2 seasons and then they start to get ruff and foul.But they shoot ever so well.
Only down side to a XC is finding brass.
A 6x47 I think is a better way to go.
At least you can get brass.

130 Berger VLD w/38.0 Varget and BR4 primers, Lapua cases. 15 rounds, 1000 yards. White AR400 plate is 20" diameter. Does this real regular like! A Jon Beanland build on a Rem700 SA.

I like! Thanks guys. Dave I have a good stash of 130ABs for critters and they tend to shoot well. Need to work with them some. I figure 123s might become a mainstay for much range work where I shoot most. Do hear the hybrids are less fickle. The VLD in 130 via 47L seems to have a deadly reputation on game, as many of 6.5s tend to do.

123 & 38.0 Varget have been money so far. 2936 fps from a 25" Brux #3, Tikka action.
