Anybody have a Remington 700 in a McMillan Hunter stock?

Putting one together with a #4 taper Shilen barrel. 1.5 to 1.75 shank. will it work?

I have six of them and like them enough that I currently have two more on order. For me, they balance really well on SAs with 24" barrels. I have the following barreled actions installed in the McM Hunter;

Rem 700SA LVSF in 223
Rem 700SA LVSF in 22-250
Rem 700SA CDL-SF in 243
Rem 700SA CDL-SF in 257 Roberts
Rem 700SA CDL-SF in 260
Wea Vanguard 2 in 6.5 Creedmoor

I think that they would be a little butt-heavy with a lighter contour or shorter barrel, like the 22" Mountain Rifle, so I will probably continue to buy the McM MR stocks for lighter builds that come up down the road. I like a raised cheek-piece on my 1st tier rifle stocks and, although it took a little getting used to, I have come to like the palm swell.

Mine will have a 24" 22-250 in it.

I like a neutral balance in my rifles and the 24" Remington 700 and Weatherby Vanguard 2 barrels on a short action balance nicely. If I was going to buy a 700 SPS with a 24" barrel, there is no question in my mind that my first choice would be the McM Hunter. The two that I have on order are going on a 700 BDL in 7mm SAUM and a 700 SPS in 25-06, both with 24" barrels.

The two 700 LVSF have 22" bsrrels and are a little butt-heavy. Not tremendously butt-heavy, but enough so that you notice it if you pick one of them up after having held one of the rifles with 24" barrels.

I have a factory Rem700 338 WM (factory magnum barrel)in a Remington Hunter stock. Unfortunately, I don't have the rifle in hand. It's out for some work. The McM Hunter forend is slim, almost too slim for me. I like the rest of the stock. There isn't much forend left if I recall correctly.

Best bet call or email McM with you specs and question. I've call them several times with questions and have alway hung up with an answer.

Good point. My rifles with McM Hunters have factory barrel and the #4 Shilen is nearly a pound heavier than the Remingon 700 CDL-SF barrels that are installed on three of my rifles.

Their Nice Stocks.. But I Didn't Care For The Palm Swell.

The palm swell, as they say, kinda grows on you or it least I have come to like it.
