Ok guys so I have a savage 110 in 7rm I thought about using as a donor action to make decently lightweight long action rifle. It will be used for anything in the lower 48. Does the 7rm doe anything the 264 doesnt?
Or is there something else that would be good 500 and in.
For what you're looking for, not a whit of difference.
Having said that, I'm a .264 WM fan.
Chose the bullet you want and go from there.

Then worry about how you'll deliver it. (cartridge)

264, less recoil, higher velocity. I shoot both. They will both shoot 1 MOA at 500 yards and double that in my experience.
I just bought a 264 win, model 70 sporter, so thought about making a lighter weight 264 as well.
I'm liking very high bc bullets at 2800 fps to 2950 fps. Getting very consistent bullet performance and long range energy. I'd go 7mm.

My thoughts exactly.

It kicks harder.
The .264WM is second best to the 7mm Remington Magnum.

I own many of each caliber, the more I shoot the 7mm I find the 264s collecting dust.

The 7mm is a killing machine!
either way whatever cal I go, who makes a lightweight stock for the 110 action?
Does the 264 do anything the 7 RM does not?

Yes, it duplicates 257/25-06 ballistics on the bottom end quite easily.

I load 100 gr ballistic tips to less than 3000 fps in my 264 for some uses. 130 accubond at 3300 fps, and 140's to 3200 fps.

Some of the new powders like Magnum, Magpro, or Retumbo have made the 264 actually capable of pushing the 140 to 3200. I have a can of RL 33 on the shelf, but have not got around to trying it yet.
I think after debating, I am going to build it to shoot the 195 Bergers

Excellent choice. Pictured at 3.54 OAL.
I'd go 7mag.
I like the .264 very much, but now go with the 7's... BUT when I played with mine many of the excellent powders for the .264 were not produced yet..
I have a new model 70 in 264, I am currently trying to find some loads for that.
The 7mm Rem mag is quite under appreciated these days. I currently do not own one, but it would be a fine choice for a
"one big game rifle" for hunting the wide open spaces of the U.S.

Of course a 7WSM sounds good too.

Personally though, I am well set up for .308 Winchester and 300 win mag, so I really should just stop there and just shoot those 2 cartridges more.

I read an article on accurate shooter a while back about the 7 WSM and it seemed like a very good "all around" choice.

Best of luck.
