I have a couple of 30-06's in the stable. Didn't really need both of them.

SOOooooo, I took one I found in the LGS for cheap - Model 70 - and just ordered a replacement barrel for it.

Pac-nor 24" matching contour in 6.5x55 Swede. Pac-nor's going to do the re-barreling and if it's ANYWHERE near as good as the 358 I had them do last year, it should prove to be a tack driver.

I was told 10 weeks from when they receive it. So, sometime around the end of July or first half of August, I should be getting the call.

I haven't even sent the rifle off yet and I already feel like kid waiting for Santa.

It's a sickness I hope I never find a cure for. laugh crazy
Nice! Std sporter or fw profile? Keep us updated - I am thinking of having them do one as well.

Standard profile. The 358 win they did for me prints 5 in 5/8" groups.
I picked up a Mod. 70 stock and bottom metal-both from here on the fire. I'm planning on having it bedded and pillars put in place as well.
I'm having them do the cerakoting on the barrel in Midnight Blue.
Hopefully have a shot at getting it scoped and finding some loads by Labor Day.
Who are you planning to use for the pillars and bedding?

Probably a local guy.

BTW, barrel will be an 8 twist

Ok, Pac-nor got my barreled action on 6/3. I picked it up yesterday afternoon (though it arrived friday) and put it in the stock.

Screws are tightened enough for pictures (poor though they are).

I introduce to y'all my 'transgendered' rifle. Formerly a 30-06, now it's a 6.5x55 Swede.

Barrel is cerakoted in Midnight Blue (by Pac-nor). Matches the blued receiver quite well I think.

That sure would make a nice 30-06. How soon 'til you change it back? wink
I like 30-06 too, but I bet it's a tack driver now...

Got to start the break-in process yesterday. Third set of 5 (with one pulled shot of course) did this:

With the pull: 1.15

The 4 shots without = .471

Lapua 123 Scenar's factory load. It was only 105 when I was shooting though.

Nice, did you consider a 6-06?
Posted By: Bbear Re: I went and did it again - 07/25/16
No, I've wanted a Swede for a while. Liked the idea of the 24" barrel and had purchased the 70 as a future build. I currently have 2 different 243's the fill in the 'light' category along w/ a Tikka 223 Stainless I found for a good price and this sort of fills in the 'mid-range' along with a couple of 25-06's and a 7mm08.
With it shooting factory stuff like that I'm rather excited about the possibilities with the 140's.

Have AMAX's and BT's on the shelf.

If your right handed that's a push not a pull...left hits are sometimes flinch related

Very nice! Looks like it's going to be really accurate.

Wow great looking and great shooting in a fantastic cartridge; sweet deal! Doesn't get much better than that!

Congrats!

Yup, it's a shooter.

142 gr ABLR & IMR4350

4 shots = .33" @ 100

Ok, I finally got the chance to run it over the chrony AND check for repeatability.
First, being able to repeat. The load worked! Using 1x fired Lapua cases, neck-sized and loaded with the same powder, load and bullet (142gr LRAB), I shot a 5 shot group measuring .411. Good enough in my book.
Next I fired 10 rounds over my magnetospeed. It was acting up, mainly, one shot then having to re-set the thing on the barrel. I missed 3 of the shots so I only had 7 to judge by.
Came out with an average speed of 2794 in my 24" Pac-nor barrel with an ES of 11 and an Sd of 9. Again, I'll take it.
I took an Axis doe this morning at 109 yards. I'll work on getting some wound pics up if anyone is interested in seeing. The nice thing on this bullet was it entered just behind the left shoulder and exited out through the rear of the right shoulder. Entrance was .264, estimated impact speed was in the upper 2600's according to Strelok. The exit wound in the hide was right at .75". As for the meat, I actually had more bloodshot meat on the entrance side than the exit. About 2" around the entrance and 1.5" on the exit.
Now, I need to play with it out to range. Only question is how far should I give it a try for hunting situations? Is it a legitimate 400 yard-er?, 500?
