Belongs to a friend, and its in 30-06 Imp.Was thinking it was an FN, but no marks on it except proof marks and P.O. ackley stamp on barrel. No name on trigger either, but looks like a Sako? He wants me to sell it for him (if I dont buy it) but trying to figure it out. He thinks the PO Ackley stamp might make it worth a fortune? Any info appreciated.

Ackley had some Mausers made for him in Japan but believe his name was stamped on them along with "Made in Japan" on the bottom

P.V. under a Lion is a Belgian proof mark. No thumb cut, I'd guess it's a comercial FN, Maybe made for Sako??? It does look kind of like a Sako trigger.

Sure looks like the same stamps to me as the rifle from the article.

Thats my guess,I have another trigger that looks identical, and is marked Sako.

Now you need to find a nice Denver Redfield to put in those Control rings and head to the range.

Ackley did a lot of work, and also had other smiths working in his shop, or so I've read. I've seen a number of his rifles in articles and for sale online, but nothing that would compare to the jewels made by guys like Biesen. Someone might pay a few bucks extra for the name, but I doubt it would be much. That floorplate release looks Sako-ish to me.

Just curious, my Sako FN has a little tab that slips up in a slot in the action to lock the bolt with the safety on. Does this one? Mine also has the slide-off floorplate typical of commecial FNs.

That mount looks suspiciously like the long Buehler that came on my 1948 FI FN .270. The mounting holes don't line up with other one-piece bases and I didn't want to mess with ring shims, so I had a second hole drilled in the bridge for two-piece bases.

Pappy348, yes this does have the tab that locks the bolt with safety on. Floorplate is hinged, with release outside of trigger guard.
This one has a 24" pencil barrel. Going to weigh it today, seems super light!

That is an FN action. Sako #4 triggers were typically installed on a variety of commercially made FN actioned guns 1957 and later.

ETA: P.O. Ackley probably didn't build the gun. He most likely installed the barrel. Guns made by P.O. Ackley generally had his address included with the name stamp.

The guns made by Ackley will bring a premium, not too much the one's he barreled.
