Found a mod 70 in a gun shop fairly cheap. While looking it over i noticed that the previous owner had engraved some numbers on the bolt body. It is a chitty job with some ridges around the numbers. I was going to buy this for the action to make a build on. Can the ridges made by the engraving be ground down without affecting the integrity of the bolt?

If it’s the last 4 numbers of the serial under the bolt handle, that’s actually factory. A photo would help for sure.
This is a bubba job with some sort of cheap vibrating engraver. I dont have a photo, i didnt buy it.

That’s how the factory does it too. Right under the bolt handle

That looks pretty close from what i remember. I would have thought something from the factory would have been stamped.
Thank you
