Since it looks like I’ll get at least some time in the turkey woods before my knee replacement, I remounted a red dot on my Henry SS .410 and got it dialed in. I purchased a good bit of TSS before it became too terribly expensive. IIRC I paid $25 per box of five for the Federals and $45 for ten Apex Ninjas. Those Ninjas are now listed for $75, and OOS everywhere I looked. I have nine left after sighting in. Have a lot more of the Federals, but those don’t pattern as well as the Ninjas, which as illustrated below, are solid 40 yard loads from my gun.

Ninja 9.5 TSS at 40 yards. The backer has a lot of other holes in it from other shots. BTW, I use 18x24 corrugated sign boards as backers, and they hold up very well, far better than Amazon boxes. That target is 8”.

The Apex Ninjas are pretty awesome from my 410. I bought 6 boxes over a 2 year span at $40-45 per box of 10. I tried Federal and Browning and neither are even close to Apex patterns.

Yeah, they really have that TSS figured out. The 20ga loads I tested are just brutal. I don’t see the need for the golden shot in 12 gauge, or 20 really, but the .410 loads make the little gun a practical tool for a half-assed turkey hunter such as myself.

I’ll bet they’d do a job on yard pests like skunks too if needed.

That red dot is a FF3 8moa BTW, just about perfect for me. The choke is the Henry factory Turkey tube, made by Briley as are their other .410s, Invector thread.

I don’t shoot a 12 but I have some Hevi13 7’s stashed as well as Winchester 3”. HV lead #6’s. No TSS for me in a 12

In my 20 I shoot the old Federal Heavyweight #7’s. I put a Burris FF3 on my 870 youth last year and I think it’s a great addition.

Apex 9.5’s from my 410. I added one of these on my 410: https://www.at3tactical.com/products/at3-rd-50-micro-red-dot-reflex-sight

I shoot a Comp-N-Choke .385 in mine.

That’s a tidy little sight. I have four FF3s and a bunch of others around, so I’m trying to use those instead of buying more unless I need to match something like an OR pistol. Never had one fail; even the original FF I bought way back when still works just fine.

Great pattern there. 410s can be real finicky in my experience. If yours shoots like that consistently that’s fantastic

+1 for Apex Ninja in .410
Worked well last season, Couldn't get any this year.

I was able to get some Rouge and Salt Creek TSS. They patterned really well in my 410 and 28ga. The TSS #9 in the 28ga is a real hammer.

That’s a hell of a pattern for a 410👍
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: Apex Ninja .410 - 03/29/24
This is typical of the Federal TSS, more like a 30 yard load I believe, in my gun anyway. I have way too many of those, purchased before I discovered the Apex.

How do the Ninjas pattern in Mossberg 500 .410?

Wondering this myself. Keep going back and looking at the Mossberg 500 410 my buddy Hank is offering, it has a fixed full choke. I also see Apex is out of stock on their 410 loads and noticed their price. But not scared of the price, not like I'm going to be shooting 100 rounds of skeet a year with it...

Only way to tell is on the pattern board, but the consensus seems to be that they are among the very best available (when available!).

IMO it’s especially important to pattern the .410 because not only do patterns vary, but also POI, and the smaller patterns make that more of a potential issue, and why I run a sight on the little gun whereas I may not on a larger bore. That red dot also allows me to shoot slugs accurately. I was a bit reluctant to fire a Brenneke through that tight tube, but no one died, and it landed close enough to the center to be useable in a pinch. Through the skeet tube, it groups those Brennekes like a rifle.

Two weeks from Monday our season opens. Guess I better get out there and tie one to a tree ahead of time!

I picked up three boxes of Ninja back in September(?) when they were in stock. I’m looking for a gun to go with them and leaning towards the Mossberg for myself and kids to use. The BPS is heavy and 870s are out of sight in price so the Mossberg looks like winner.

My daughter borrowed a friend’s Mossberg last year and got her first turkey with it using Apex ammo. I did not pattern my buddy’s gun but it absolutely stoned the turkey at 17 yards.

Ace Hardware down the street still has five boxes of Apex 410 #9.5 in ten round boxes for $49.99. If anyone needs some I’ll gladly grab and ship. Just trying to help out fellow turkey hunters.

my 7yo old has killed 2 with the apex 9s out of a stevens 301. Both have been within 20yds, but id say out to 35yds the 410 with the apex is all you need.

I picked up the Mossberg 500 .410 with Holosun. I look forward to shooting it and will post my findings.

Thats a great price and offer for Apex 410 ammo.

My grandkids have moved up from a 410 to a 28ga. If not I would take you up on that. Thanks for posting, Nice gesture.
I have 2 mossberg 410's for turkey hunting.
A 500 410ga turkey model. And a SA 410ga turkey model. Both have Indian Creek. 385 chokes. And Apex Ninja 9.5 turkey loads. Reflex red dot on both.

Surprising how different the patterns are.
