My Friend is posting $1000 Reward, plus the cost of the rifle. The gun is a Savage 99G, .250/3000, S/N 282748. His Father sold the rifle in 1960, and would like to return it back to the Family. He would gladly buy the rifle, or trade depending on what the current owner would like to do. Thank you. Happy hunting!

I have that serial flagged in my data base from a posting back 2/2020. No luck yet.

Was this rifle a take down model?
Posted By: Rick99 Re: $1000 Reward - 01/29/24
99G in .250... yes a take down.

I’ll keep a watch out .

Thank everyone for the help. My friend would be very happy to get his Fathers gun. Yes, the G is a take down.

Just for the heck of it I went and looked at one given to me a few months back, mine is a little older

1671**

Good luck.

I’m on a hunt of my own, 20 years ago my father bought a model19 6” S&W off the widow of a killed CHP officer. Now I’m wondering if he had any sons, and wondering if somebody down at the CHP would run the serial and know the officer’s family. Gun just sits in the safe, it’s like new.

I found a used bill of sale in buttstock from 1964 for a 1961 99F. The man who bought it has long been dead. Found his grandson in Grand Rapids, MI but he didn’t want it. I offered it for same money.

True story.

That’s going to a difficult task, locating a specific rifle that was sold many years ago. I suspect your friend will have better luck locating a replacement rifle of the same calibre and model.

snoepro,. Yes, I might be difficult to find my friends Father's 99. But, we thought this would be a good place to try, and find it. Stanger things have happened! My friend is not interested in a replacement. He just wants the gun back home where it belongs!

Considering it was sold off over 63 years ago, I wouldn't hold my breath. I wish him luck.

Thank you snoeproe, We can use all the luck we can get. Intestingly my friend sold a Winchester Model 07 Back in the early 1960's. He ended up finding that gun, and bought it back many years later. He wrote an interesting book on the Winchester 1907 .351 WSL.

Try to narrow it down a bit,
Where was the rifle sold? any other info at all?
Posted By: Alan_C Re: $1000 Reward - 02/10/24
With all the guns parted out, I wonder if Numrich gun parts keeps a data base of serial numbers ?????
Posted By: Skynyrd Re: $1000 Reward - 02/10/24
The rifle was sold in Michigan.

Good luck on your search Skynyrd. I checked my G and serial number not even close. Anyway, just a thought, there is another forum that is Savage firearm centered, the 'SavageShooters.com' that gets alot of traffic. Some members here are members also, anyway they have a 'Vintage Savage' section that may help in your search. Just a thought. Yer handle any takeoff on Lynard Skynyrd music group? Good tunes!

Savage94c, Thank you for the suggestion. Since you are a Rock&Roll Aficionado, yes my handle handle is a takeoff from America’s Greatest Rock&Roll band…..Lynyrd Skynyrd!
