Found one for a decent price after a long time of looking. All original. The light wood is from a pretty sunset here in the Upper Peninsula. It had some weaver bases that I took off and added a one piece Leupold base. I had an older Sightron gloss 3-9 in mint shape laying around so I put it on. After a bore sight and three rounds later, I was grouping at 100. I put four groups together and the average was 1.5. Ammo was factory Remington 150 CLs. I am perfectly content with that performance.

I always enjoy a good day at the range. Life is good for February.

I didn’t either and so I bought it. It might be older but it’s super clear. Made in Japan. I would hunt with this rig no problem at all.

My oldest son shot it and he really enjoyed it as well.
Ive had great luck with Japan glass, even some early Tascos.

Beautiful example of a pre mil Savage 99 F in 300 Savage.

There must be a better example of the perfect set up for a woods deer rifle.

Can't think of one offhand though...confused
Nice rifle Ras! Does the serial number begin with a 9? I’m guessing yes. There is a few here that know their year models well. There are charts online too.

No, it doesn’t.

My Dad's is 7827xx bought new 1956.
Very nice. And that's very, very near the end of the 7xx,xxx range.
I bought a '57 F too at a collector show years back and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't a .308. Not anymore because that .300 Savage does everything a .308 does at my woods hunting ranges without all the recoil. It carries and points better than my bolt actions and it would be an ideal still hunting rifle if I was younger and skillful enough to do that. Aside from that too heavy trigger pull, I could make it into my #1 preferred whitetail hunting rifle. Nit picking finding the factory loaded ammunition can be a challenge, that steel receiver is cold to one hand carry and the lever safety isn't as intuitive as some others.
nice F, you don't have much snow? smile

Good score you got there. I think the post-war 99F was one of the nicest looking rigs Savage ever made. Especially those you find with the flutes in the comb.

Nice looking rifle. I shoot its twin often. Looks like your areas February has been as glorious as ours. Still looking forward to longer days and more predictable temps, this winter though has been very mild. Welcome change from the “Black Dog” I’m usually experiencing around now.
