I was going to post this on the earlier sight post but here will work.

on the right, 99DE, cal 284, produced 19645, serial #1,083,9xx. Muzzle diameter .620", barrel at rear sight. .877", barrel at breach 1.024". Lyman marked sight, with the triangle

on the left EG 243, produced 1957, serial # 9289xx, long non-folding sight used for a number of years prior to this

99E, 300 Savage, produced 1959/1960, serial #9688xx, LBC L, first appearance of the cheap stamped 99E rear sight. This is one of the transition 99E's that is more like an EG than an E.

99DL 300 Savage, produced in 1962, serial #1,044,0xx, long folding sight with the vertical line.

David, does the " PE special, 308 cal, produced ?, serial #1,160,000 (Ron's)" have a LBC on it? The serial puts it about early 1968 but might have been assembles later.

The folding Lyman 16's were added around 1955, have the white diamond and marked Lyman on the reverse side. At some point the design may have changed changed and the name left off. Given that David's 1967 rifle has the early sight it appears that it was produced to at least that time. Need more examples of 1967 and later rifles with a folding Lyman 16's, or that style, to learn more.

No LBC on any of my PE's or DE's. I wish they did have them. Especially because the 284's may have been produced later than the serial # indicates. I addressed the fact that my DL 284 had an earlier serial number than a E produced earlier according to the LBC's in the "Collector's Guide". I speculated that a batch of 284 receivers were produced at one time, then used as demand required.
The 3 Special PE's that I know about all have serial #'s ending in three zeros.

So Maybe you can use the sight to give a time frame for production? Is different than the others and is the same as the one I was trying to figure out. The four dimples on the back and the hash marks are a give away.
Hopefully you guys with higher condition later rifles can look for the sight and give DOM of the rifle wearing it?

more detailed pics of the DE and PE sights. I don't see any difference. But then they are all fairly early.
